Will be close but the longer we are in it the more chance we have. Spain look a better team but our squad is stronger and our subs could make the difference.

I’d love to know where everyone’s confidence has come from Not confident but getting excited! Saka and Foden need to chuck the kitchen sink at Spain, we've got great subs so they should splurge all their energy for about 60 mins

I recently wrote a derogatory comment about an England performance that paraphrased a well used phrase including the words turd and polish.
I very much hope to be able to eat humble pie later tonight, but am not looking forward to the game with any level of confidence. Play like the first half against the Netherlands is what’s needed, not Gareth’s version of seniors walking football.

No outlet for England, Kane looks like Wilfred Brambell, when you play Spain you need pace up front. Spain were always going to have more of the ball.

The pain continues.
Better team won but could the subs have been made earlier? No one had a bad game but neither did any England player stand out.
So near and yet so far.

Fair result, we were second best all over the park. In the final, 100% agreed. Over the tournament: prob not even top 5 tmho. That being said, sorry for my English Charlton fans friends you didn't win it.

All you punters out there what happens if your player is joint top scorer do you still get paid out ? The odds are split so if five players shared top scorer you get paid a 5th of the odds.

I would like someone who could give the players the confidence to go out and attack teams somewhat more. I'm just not sure there are actually any winning English managers around.

Walker at fault for both goals.. Agreed, but I also I blame the manager. I don't think we should've played a back three with the pace of the Spanish front line, that thrives on width. You could've parked a ferry in the space Williams found himself in on at least four occasions. We were lucky to finish 2-1. Harry Kane was ineffective.

I know the Dutch tactics helped but if Spain or France played the way we did 1st 45mins yesterday everyone would be raving about it. That was one.of the best halves of football we've played for a long time. Should have been game over half time. That Dutch midfield was so open in those first 45 which meant Bellingham and Foden were receiving the ball, turning and running at the Dutch defence……...and you really don’t want those two running at you……… so the injury in the first half helped Koeman make the tactical switch where he brought on another midfielder to swamp that part of his team……Second half there was no space to play through the lines to Bellingham and Foden hence we tended to go sideways and backwards…………I would think the Spain coaching team would have taken note of this as they can play the same way the Dutch did second half but still have plenty of quality to attack us and open us up……..It’s going to be a tough ask to beat this Spanish side on Sunday night Thought I would bump this…..Spain suffocated us in the middle of the park when we had the ball and we were not good enough to deal with it…..they also looked likely to score whenever they went forward and we could have lost by more if it wasn’t for Pickford…… We weren’t good enough to capitalise on the Palmer equaliser, Spain just stepped up,a gear, absolutely no disgrace by getting beat by this Spain team and we were a last ditch header off the line from taking it to extra time…..

Same old disappointment but big difference to the past is that there are plenty of positives to take from that tournament going forward.
Southgate has changed the squad mentality from the previous poison. The players are some of the best in the world. Time for a new manager to take these attributes on now and win the WC.

Don’t disagree with that. It has been suggested that the winter competition last time around was much better because of its timing (ie not at the end of a long season)

Spain had obviously looked a better side than England on the way to the final, but nevertheless I expected England to be competitive last night in what I assumed would be a 50/50 game, or close to it. In truth, we were outplayed and outclassed and, partisan loyalties aside, it would have been a travesty had Spain not won.
It’s easy to blame Gareth Southgate, and perhaps he does share some (or even much) of the responsibility, but the FA need yet again to take a long, hard look at why, despite being pre tournament favourites, we’ve yet again failed to impress when it really matters.
The Elite Player Performance Plan is now delivering impressive results while the Premier League offers one of the best and most competitive platforms in world football to develop players, if not the best. We shouldn’t need to rely on “lucky draws” and “the run of the ball” to progress to the later stages of the Euros or the World Cup.
I’ve not seen behind the scenes and nor do I have inside knowledge, but if Gareth Southgate has transformed the England setup then that’s a damning indictment of what went before. I don’t believe, even now, that “randomness” adjusted, we’re achieving anything more than par outcomes and it’s entirely possible we’re still underperforming a reasonable expectation.
