Any manager who uses the word quintessential is ok by me.

Thanks for posting....I'm pleased that he's been appointed as I think he fits the profile of CAFC. I couldnt help but feel a sense of deja vue in terms what a big club we are etc, as we've heard this before with the last 3 managers. I guess it's over saturation of the same theme that's driven this initial observation Because we are a big club in relation to the current league we’re in. Anyone coming in now whether they be manager, player or staff can sense what could be achieved here. The big takeaway from the interview for me, aside from the Fa t thst we’ve landed a real good ‘in at last, is the emphasis he repeatedly put on the owners being in it for the long term. Results must immediately pick up if we’re to maintain this feel good factor though. The players must eliminate those individual errors that are costing us goals and games.

Someone mentioned it before that the likes of Jones and Rowett have an authority aura about them they do and it’s a good thing they mean business contrasting to Apples who didn’t he said all the right things in the interview I would expect Jones to keep us up this season and when backed in summer really push on it’s well overdue.

Very good interview and just maybe he was the clubs 1st candidate back in September but Nathan wasn't ready at the time. Very happy with this appointment.

Very good interview and just maybe he was the clubs 1st candidate back in September but Nathan wasn't ready at the time. Very happy with this appointment. It sounds like you’re right but he just wanted some family time. Apples’ appointment really seems to have wasted a season.

Comes across really well in his interview, as expected. One thing that surprised me was how calm and level-headed he seems. Seems a lot more at ease with himself than he was at Soton where he seemed defensive from the off. Enjoyed the wry smile when talking about being a manager, not a head coach.
Good luck to him!

The full 16 min interview with Nathan Jones on Charlton TV is worth a watch. It’s difficult to disagree with anything that he says really, particularly around standards.
Interesting that the club approached him after Dean Holden was sacked. It just reinforces the thought that Micheal Appleton was a desperation appointment.

So it isn't just 50 seconds long?
Do I need to be some kind of paid subscriber to watch the full length version?

Jones is at the J Hearnden Skip Hire Community Stadium watching the U21s play Welling in the London Senior Cup tonight.
Edit: 1-0 to Welling half time.
Second Edit: finished 2-1 Charlton.

Nathern jones confirms on sky sports press conference that he's contract is 4 and half years Wow. That's an investment Indeed. It’s all about relative bargaining positions. Nathan Jones had choices and didn’t need the job. The club wanted him. Hopefully, because they genuinely believe he’s the right man for the job, but there can be no doubt the circumstances increased the pressure to make a decision and get someone in place. We should all be encouraged that the local management team (Rodwell and Scott) worked with the lead investors (Brener and Friedman) to get the man they wanted over the line. Let’s hope for a ‘reaction’ from the players and a few breaks over the next two or three games.

You have no idea if Scott & Rodwell played any role in getting Jones over the line. Rich Cawley stated that the investors flew over and were far more hands on with the managerial appointment this time.

Er, NJ states in his YouTube interview that it was mostly Andy (Scott) and Jim (Rodwell) he met with, although he did also meet with "the owners". It's not unreasonably to assume the former two played at least some role in him saying yes, surely?

I posted my comment above having just watched Jones’ first pre match interview. Have you seen it? I took it as Nathan Jones discussing the role with Scott & Rodwell, and how it dovetailed with theirs and Dr Wills. It was the investors doing the actual persuading, and providing him with the guarantees that he was seeking. Either way, Scott is now working with his 3rd Charlton manager in 12 months, and it’s his head on the chopping block if he can’t get it right this time. It was good to hear Jones make reference to his role in future player recruitment.

Agreed, but how does that differ from this, “We should all be encouraged that the local management team (Rodwell and Scott) worked with the lead investors (Brener and Friedman) to get the man they wanted over the line.”? I’m pleased you’ve now agreed that the investors are a positive. I’ve said the structure is too, but I know you don’t yet see it that way yet. I’ve also said all along that if the SMT don’t deliver, either individually or collectively, they’ll be gone. I think you now agree with that too. At this stage what more do we want? The priority now is on trying to get enough points to stay up. Can I suggest we focus exclusively on that, stop trying to find someone or something to blame and allow the elephant time to come into full view? We all want the same thing don’t we?

Just for the avoidance of doubt Mundell I think Scott should have walked the plank at the same time as Appleton.
