I think the owners probably decided it's better to wait a year and not try to compete with the likes of Birmingham and Wrexham paying crazy amounts. Maybe if they shift some more of the dead wood and if both those teams get promoted we can have the chance of a top 2 budget and a real promotion push. Can’t see them hanging around another season after this one . If we don’t go up this year , in their eyes the project has failed and they will invest in something else . I think it would be really interesting to hear the views of the actual owners….rather than Rodwell & co…… I would be keen to hear their goals…..do they expect us to go up this season….have they been told that the budget required would be competitive to get us up…..etc….etc…..I don’t get why they would want to pump more and more money into things like five a side football pitches in the car park for the kids if we are stuck in league one with team not quite good enough in terms of quality to go up

Hmmm....Based off what exactly? Have they ever said anything remotely along those lines? Would they have invested so much off the pitch, arguably instead of in the team if it was promotion or bust? If you know something, please share it - otherwise this is cheap rumour-mongering with zero substance and is really not helpful or necessary!

Would have liked to have seen more money spent on the squad than off the pitch stuff . How much have they spent ? Remember three of the main board are billionaires .

Teams will nout score us and I can honestly see us getting a couple of good hidings when we play the sides who I think will finish in the top two or three. Next season will be last chance saloon for me unless we are somewhow there or there abouts in January and they may push the boat out. Not interested in the fanzone or matchday experience in the car park. I don't see the point when come 5pm most people will be going home utterly fking miserable. Take teh Americans out of the equation and this lot don't have it in them to identify and spend good money on top L1 players. Hands up who thinks we have more than three Championship quality players in the squad right now?

Which player generates the most excitement from the fans … Chuks and we know how that story ends. The standout player is Ramsey who may attracts bids in the coming windows. Ps see Wales 2-0 up after 2 mins 46 secs … fair play Mr Bellamy👍

The team looks so much better in comparison to last 2-3 seasons, we have a half decent manager as well and we started the season well. The owners have spent money, more than we have since 6-7 years ago. As for the fan zone, I’ve been crying out for something like this so fair play to the club for introducing this. I think some people need to lighten up because it could’ve been a lot worse like it has done. How about bringing ESL or Sandgaard back? Lol

Can’t see them hanging around another season after this one . If we don’t go up this year , in their eyes the project has failed and they will invest in something else . I think it would be really interesting to hear the views of the actual owners….rather than Rodwell & co…… I would be keen to hear their goals…..do they expect us to go up this season….have they been told that the budget required would be competitive to get us up…..etc….etc…..I don’t get why they would want to pump more and more money into things like five a side football pitches in the car park for the kids if we are stuck in league one with team not quite good enough in terms of quality to go up I agree it would be very interesting to hear directly from the owners about their goals and expectations. I thought we might have done so by now, but we’ve only heard from Gavin Carter who is a minority shareholder and who, I assume, is not a significant influencer, though that could obviously be wrong. In the meantime, all we have to go on is what we can infer from what’s in the public domain and what we think might make sense, not necessarily to us but to the likes of Friedman and Brener. I may be wrong and my apologies if I am (it is not my intention to get into an argument), but I have a sense that you are reluctant to accept some of what I think we can be confident we know. 1. We have a top six wage bill and perhaps one in the top four. Our wage bill is probably a very long way behind Birmingham’s, but though we may not think the players reflect it all of the evidence suggests our wage bill is very competitive. Lots of teams in League One will have very much smaller wage bills than ours. 2. There is a lot of evidence that wage bill correlates strongly with final league table position. That relationship is not perfect and there are always going to be outliers, but it makes sense given that the market for footballers is very efficient. Recruitment departments know who all the players are and what they are paid. The correlation between transfer spend and league table position is weaker. Money spent on transfer fees can be recouped obviously (unlike wage bill), but in a sense transfer spend can be seen as the cost of acquiring wage bill. 3. Given 1 and 2 we should “expect”, in a statistical sense, a top six finish. If that’s not true then there is something wrong, almost certainly with either our recruitment or the coaching etc. It’s possible that legacy contracts (like Chuks Aneke, for example) distort this picture a little obviously. 4. However, based on a lot of exposure to people like Friedman (not to him to be clear), my guess is that he will not “expect” a top six finish. He is more likely to think in terms of the probability of a top six finish given the wage bill. There is then a trade off between that probability and the cost of increasing it. I don’t know obviously, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there has been a lot of debate about this question. US sports franchises are deeply immersed in this “problem”. 5. A key point is that there can be no certainty. Birmingham have spent an unimaginable amount of money by League One standards, and yet the bookmakers reckon there is at least a 25% chance they’ll be playing in League One again next season. Wrexham have almost a 70% chance of playing in League One next season on the same basis. 6. Other types of spend, on infrastructure, branding and marketing et al, might be seen as having a more much predictable and reliable long term payoff. Hence, the owners might feel this spend is justified because, all other things being equal, it will improve the chances of future success and increase future revenues. It’s less of a bet. 7. It might be that the owners believe that if they spend an amount needed to create a “reasonable” chance of promotion each season, that promotion will eventually come. They probably don’t have a clear view of when (because they can’t), i.e. whether it will happen this season or in three years time etc., so what’s important is that they are committed to stick at it while strengthening the foundations which should help improve the chances of future success on the pitch. They might also believe that when promotion does come the club will be better equipped for the Championship. 8. It follows from this that if the club doesn’t make a serious challenge for promotion this season, i.e. never looks like making the playoffs, they are much more likely to ask questions of the management than conclude they didn’t spend enough money. An anaemic mid table finish might well see heads roll. I’m not saying this is what I believe the owners should or shouldn’t be doing. Nor am I saying it’s in some sense “right”. I simply saying that, as I see it, it’s a plausible assessment based on the information available to us. If this is the mindset of the investors it would also be rational in the sense that we can’t say it’s obviously the wrong way to think about their investment, even if it’s not what we might do if we owned the club. Once again, I’m not trying to get into or win an argument here. I simply trying to unpick a puzzle.

I'm still fairly optimistic. I think a few things a key.. 1 I actually think Saturday is a huge game for us. it's one of the first away games where you are thinking we really are alot stronger than them, go and win there and it sets us up nicely. it's the beginning of 3 games where I think we need to be getting 7 points if we are serious about being top 2 or perhaps even top 6. let's say 17 points from 8 games
2. then we go into a huge October, a fit leavurn could make a big d8ffernce here. some really big and tough games. 6 games. let's say we get 7 points (I hope for better). we start November with 24 fron 14 and a couple of months of really winnable games until the turn of the yea
3. then it's about winning those games.
4. we could go into Jan firmly in the top 6 and hopefully some investment to kick on.
it all starts Saturday!

November I reckon 6 points from 9 so. 30 points from 16 going into December big month that where there's alot of points available..
15 points from 7 over December in to new year
23 games played - 45 points and right in the mix at halfway point.
big big November and December needed. they may well shape our season

I don't believe that mate. Any fee Liverpool would have got for him would be staggered as would their payments to us. I don't believe there would have been enough time for them to receive their first instalment and then pay ours by the time the window closed because he was only ever going to leave Merseyside on deadline day which didn't happen.

We should also factor in that this isn't about one week in one window. Having had a great start, we can picture the management plotting out the next 15 games, say five at a time... AND looking at how to improve our attacking play, I.e., xG. What can they do with the current squad and where might we strengthen in January 2025. This is as much about building as buying. If Gomez does move then perhaps more in the kitty in 2025? But his staying put hasn't held us back as far as we know.

If Gomez does move then perhaps more in the kitty in 2025? But his staying put hasn't held us back as far as we know. Methven spoke about this on the podcast that was linked on here a while ago. He said that the funding of the club was explained to the new owners as costing a couple of million some seasons but as we receive windfalls from selling players, or from add-ons, that can be reduced, and some seasons there will be no need for 'investment', at all. I understand that to mean that if we are losing c. £3m a season and we get £6m from the sale of Gomez the owners won't have to put any money for two seasons. I also heard a rumour that the intention was to sell Miles Leaburn last January (before he was injured) to fund last season and some of this. It's clear that we are not going to blow millions on trying to win promotion but, let's be honest, that's what Sandgaard did and I believe we are much more likely to get out of this division with the way it is being run, now, than when he was 'running' the club. The approach we have, now, is much more professional. One of the issues with Sandgaard was that he believed he could do it all better than anyone else. This current ownership model recognise that they need the professionals in all the correct positions. There is an argument that we have some people in situ that are not doing well enough but that is about who, not how. If those in senior positions fail to deliver I expect that they will be replaced. That is completely different from having your son choose the players, your girlfriend manage the HR and a guitar wielding arse in charge of everything else - including dictating the tactics and style of play of the first team. This explains why Sandgaard took the club backwards and spent millions of pounds, of his own money, in the process. Arse!
