Sacked at Forest after splashing £150m on 22 players during the summer, with club sat second from bottom in the Premier League after just one win all season. Should have been no coming back from that yet somebody found a way for him. Whoever that was should be shown the door along with Appleton. Scott is a like a gambler chasing money after losing bet after losing bet. Signs a player who isn't good enough and after half a dozen games he's signing another one. Squad is too big and devoid of idea and ability and it's all down to him. Never known anyone in football let alone Charlton to recruit dud after dud and get away with it. I'm not a big fan of Scott but, in his defence, those players did enable Forest to climb up to 16th and avoid relegation. They are also clear of the bottom three this season - all be it they might have a points deduction. The team that wins promotion via the playoffs rarely survives without significant investment in the playing squad - especially if they haven't been in the top flight for a few years. Your last para is, however, spot on. It reminds me, very much, or Pardew and we all know how that turned out.

By my count, we have Dobbo, Coventry, Bakinson, Watson, Fiorini, Fraser, Anderson, Taylor, McGrandles and Camara who are capable of playing in the middle of the park. For players capable of playing on the wing, we have Tyreese Campbell. How can that be right? Why did we bring in Fiorini in the first place when we have so many midfielders? I kind of get this. It's the same with playing McGrandles. Managers often tend to recruit people they know as that removes some of the uncertainty about character, temperament etc. Kirk, for example was a disaster and many of the rumours we hear suggest that he had issues that were not football related. I don't, for example, imagine Adkins, Garner or Appleton taking Kirk to a club they manage in the future. This logic is why many small business owners employ friends and family that are not the best candidate for the job, They know them, they trust them and they know that they will not end up having to take disciplinary action against them or pay them off.

Why did we bring in Fiorini in the first place when we have so many modfielders? I think Fiorini was for a trial, planning for next season. I'll judge him when he's fit to play. Well that's my point. Why sign unfit players on loan. I know of no other club who are that backward. What are we now, a rehabilitation centre for other clubs to send their crocks to play half a dozen games over six months and still get paid for it? Half of these players make Cory Gibbs look like the Bionic man!

We needed players who have had 150 to 200 EFL games under there belts that are used to playing every week. Not like ant of the signings that have come in. Nearly all like for like what we have. Build a good solid team then bring in the young players. Team for them and the team. But Andy Scott hasn't got a clue. Failed player and failed manager and trying to manage team from above. Appleton never stood up to him and was happy to us be in a job. Any manager worth there salt has to and have final say on signing players, coaches coming in and who can be in the squad. Appleton didn't have this.

That’s an openly ambiguous statement from CBT’s agent. It may be Scott, it may be the owners. Either way, the morale at the club is lower than a snakes belly and is effecting results.
The cynic in me suggests we are in with more wonderful owners.

"I’m retired mate. Charlton let me go in the youth academy at a young age and that really burned me. I couldn’t watch football for years until I sorted out my life off the pitch. Life works in some weird ways." basically he didnt make it and was dumped as kid, so he has history with CAFC

I know Mundell and seriouslyred were big supporters of Andy Scott, and the ridiculous DoF role. Now that the wheels have come off, it would be interesting to hear whether they have changed their opinions 🤔 You do like a dig don’t you? Whats your motivation? Why don’t you see if you can find a single post where I said I was a “big supporter of Andy Scott”. And for the avoidance of doubt I mean of Andy Scott, not his role. I’m confident you’ll draw a blank. I haven’t changed my view about the value of having a DoF.

CBT's agent on X. All fingers pointing to Scott. Love how someone on CL speculates that poster is CBT's agent and everyone automatically believes it. Away from reposts of lots of CBT stuff, the rest of the guy's feed is a mishmash of misogynistic bullshit (eg retweeting Andrew Tate alongside his own posts saying women shouldn't be allowed to drive etc) and weird conspiracy theories about the CIA organising 9/11 and faking the moon landings etc. CBT is with a reputable agency that represents dozens of players and managers. I don't doubt the poster above might well be a mate of his or one of his hangers-on/fanbois, but I'm pretty sure CBT isn't having his transfers and contracts etc negotaiated by some incel troll called Flomsie!

So the vibe that's going about is that Scott is a arsehole with no man management skills? Is this why CBT and Dobbo didn't sign contracts?. Who would people have to replace him? Curbs would be my choice, but sounds like he loves his holidays too much!. Would Brownie and Minto be interested?.

While a shit manager, and out of football for a while, Les Reed did sterling work behind the scenes at Southampton. Someone at Celtic has some good foreign contacts.

I was under the genuine impression that you thought Scott was doing a good job as Technical Director. It was a debating point, not a dig. It’s a healthy thing to have wildly divergent views on ITTV. One small positive from the last few days is that it’s now clear that the current structure does not work , and that a Technical Director who isn’t up to it actually ends up being an impediment to success.

OK Fair enough. No worries. I’m always happy to have a debate - and enjoy the humour. I have always defended the structure which I still believe is the right one for an ambitious, modern football club, but I’ve also consistently said that the jury is out on the individuals, including Andy Scott. I have been prepared to give Andy Scott the benefit of the doubt for the January and summer transfer windows (no credit, just the benefit of the doubt). However, I am now inclined to believe that the investors have a potentially serious problem with their management team, including Scott. Not with the strategy they are following or with the structure of their management team, but with the individuals. I won’t repeat what you have said about all of this but I would add that the way they have dealt Michael Appleton’s departure (not the decision itself) is simply unforgivable. That’s important to me not just because it’s crass and lacking in integrity and basic decency, but also because it smacks of a complete lack of professionalism. If I was an investor I’d be very concerned by this week’s events.

If I was an investor I’d be very concerned by this week’s events. What’s your theory on the manner of Appleton’s botched dismissal, cock up or conspiracy? Good question, but I’ve no more idea than you have. Probably less. There are only two possibilities. The first is that a decision was taken to fire Michael Appleton and the news was then briefed out before he was spoken to and worse, even then, he was required to do his press conference on Monday. It doesn’t matter why the announcement was then delayed. That shouldn’t have mattered. If this is what happened then it was mind bogglingly disrespectful, unprofessional and incompetent. The second possibility is that someone decided to brief disinformation to create a shitstorm in order to force his dismissal. That someone must have been credible enough to be believable. It’s hard to believe this is what happened, but who knows. You pays your money and you makes your choice, but the irony is that the only one coming out of this with any credit is Michael Appleton himself. I thought that in the circumstances he handled himself very well on Monday. Can you imagine how difficult that must have been? Finally, Andy Scott recruited Michael Appleton after an “extensive process” and then worked alongside him for six months. It didn’t work out, but I’ve no doubt that Appleton was committed and worked hard. Scott is as responsible for the failure as Appleton, if not more so. In these circumstances the curt announcement immediately after the game on Tuesday night was pathetic.

I reckon he was called in to discuss mutual agreement for his departure - that was then interpreted as he’s gone - then he decided no I want to be sacked for more money…

Do you believe that’s what was happening? In any event, it doesn’t excuse going public before his departure had been agreed.

Why do people think that managers are going to be truthful to fans - especially Appleton who didn't care what the fans thought. He lied to save face, to protect his public image. Because very, very few people are capable of looking into a camera and telling bare faced lies. That’s a very different thing from not telling the truth which many people do with equanimity. PS If he had lied and a member of the CAFC Board or SMT subsequently said he'd been told on Saturday evening (as they might well do in an attempt to salvage their own credibility) then his reputation for honesty and integrity would be shattered. He had nothing to gain from lying and a lot to lose. What he thinks of Charlton fans (or football fans in general) is neither here nor there.
