I know that I’m probably away from the majority of you here but the investors should not be making this decision. They should be asked their opinions only. Otherwise why not put it to the vote with the fans also?
They should appoint an SMT and if the SMT do not perform they should replace them.

You would’ve thought that they’d have ironed out what they want from a manager (contract length, style, control etc) before starting the search.
Ended up with Warnock and Jones is baffling and shows there’s no cohesion in planning.

I just can’t get behind a 3 month manager. So we go for a full time manager for pre season in June/July then he spends the next 6 weeks assessing our squad by which time the seasons already started and we’re behind everyone again

Cawley now reporting that both Neil Warnock and Nathan Jones are in the frame, but that the SMT are split on length of co tracts etc 🤦♂️ Will Methven & Scott please just fuck off. Get out of the way …leave ….you are a pair of buffoons who’s egos are standing in the way of the club moving forwards. Let the actual money men make these decisions. Never let the evidence get in the way of a good story eh? Cawley says there may be a split in the hierarchy over whether to go short-term or long-term. That’s an entirely reasonable discussion to have. It’s almost certainly not about length of contract, per se. It’s exactly the between a rock and a hard place dilemma I highlighted yesterday. Do you focus primarily on ensuring we avoid relegation this season (Warnock, say) or on getting the right Head Coach for the long term? Those two objectives may lead in a different direction. They certainly would in Warnock’s case and might also with an outstanding young coach who hasn’t yet held a Head Coach position in the EFL. You ideally want both obviously, but what if there is a genuine choice? I know you don’t rate the SMT (and I agree there are currently major concerns about them), but do we really want one of the major investors choosing our next Head Coach? How can they possibly be qualified to make that decision? As I’ve said repeatedly, it makes a huge amount of sense (for several reasons) for us to have a DOF who is qualified to lead and advise on this critical appointment. If he’s not the right person for the role then that’s a different matter. If the investors have lost confidence in the SMT (and no longer feel able to delegate to them) then they should work with a consultant ( Twenty-First Group, for example ) to advise on the right management structure and assist with the recruitment of a new SMT. In the meantime, they’d appoint a short-term Head Coach, like Warnock, to ensure we’re playing in League One next season. I’d be surprised if that’s what’s going on, but if it is then fair enough. If not, then one of the investors reaching in and making a fundamentally important decision over the heads of the SMT would not be a good sign.

I have to agree with your thought process … the owners lay down broad policy/financial support etc and then the SMT get on with the execution of policy. But our situation appears to be somewhat ‘off’ as the SMT were effectively in place seeking financial backers from the outset. Therefore at present we have the cart before the horse particularly as far as the DofF is concerned. Why is it that it always ends up a buggers muddle at CAFC?

Had a bit of an update this morning and in terms of a vote having taken place on one manager in particular, that hasn't happened yet but it is the process they will go through when they minimise the candates down.
If all the Board were convinced by any of the names linked so far, then one would have been appointed. There is a difference of opinion but a healthy one. What kind of a Board would we have if they were just a bunch of Yes Men who all have the same view?
In the end, there is a vote. Im told that it would br a massive surprise and a disappoint if all 6 voted for the same person.
The story about CM putting things on hold because Darrem Moore is now available, I'm told is 'so utterly laughable that it deserves to be called out!'. For the record, CM doesn't even have a vote anyway.

I don't feel the need to have a running commentary like the other place just to feed the vultures. So much crap and untruths posted over there, none of it by the way from those involved in the process of hiring a new manager.

No he is one of the people I am in contact with regularly throughout the wèek. One of them I have a direct line with on recommending players. Gave him Luke Bolton's name again this morning as Wrexham haven't yet got their bid for him over the line. As for CM he definitely doesn't have a vote. Six board members do. They get plenty of feedback from here and know full well that I won't defend the indefensible just becsuse relationships have been struck up. We have had many stern words when I have been critical but my views are taken on board as are others I put forward from here. It's all about being firm but fair.

It’s what you want a Board to do. As for having a formal vote, something has gone very wrong if that’s actually required. Any decent Board will want to reach a decision which everyone can support. For completeness I would add that someone not on a Board might influence the decision the Board eventually makes. Being on the Board and having a formal vote is not, in practice, a requirement for someone to influence the outcome.

In my opinion, it's incredible that a manager hasn't been appointed before the window closes. I find myself asking why. This leads me back to Appleton's appointment. Was Appleton appointed because he was a yes man and would tow the party's line? Despite 95 percent of the fan base suggesting he wasn't the right appointment. Are they struggling to appoint someone now because those who have been interviewed are not yes men and want to do things their own way?

Would you have appointed any manager simply to get someone in place before the transfer window closes? Surely, it’s important to make the right appointment? It might have been possible to complete the entire recruitment process by close today, but there could never have been any guarantee of that. We need to be realistic in our expectations.

I agree the manager is more important than getting players over the line but Appleton was sacked on the 23rd of January, and it wasn't out of nowhere. There would've been a shortlist drawn up already which means 24th of January, invites should've been going out to our prospects. First round of interviews over two days (say 3 per day, depending on the size of the shortlist). Quickfire feedback and round 2 scheduled for the following two days would take us through to 29th January. Even if you add in a day for travel, there's no reason why we're sitting on February first still deliberating. Decision could and should have been made given the urgency of our situation with the window. If Jones or Rowatt inherits the group of players we currently have, I still don't fancy our chances.

What if the candidates weren’t available for interview over that first week? That’s just one example of what may have caused a delay. Football is a unique industry in many ways and one of them is that the recruitment of very senior and critical employees is expected to be completed in a timeframe that would be inconceivable in any other field.

Nathan Jones in a managerial role to take us forward with a rebuild in the summer and Neil Warnock as short gap to ensure we don't go down this season?
Of course a rebuild in the summer doesn't mean we replace the whole squad, only those who are not up standard. It's up to the players to show they are up to standard.

So on that basis mate should we just be considering manager's who are out of work? They are for a reason. What if we prefer a manager who is currently at another club? The initial approach comes first, then we have to wait for permission to speak. After that the manager in question has to agree personal terms, then it goes back to his club to discuss compo. That takes time, far longer than what has elapsed between MA leaving and now. Not saying we are looking at somebody in a job but if we want the right man, all options have to remain open. Personally I think we'll go Warnock until the end of the season then see what's about.
