Personally I think it’s excellent news that the investors (serious businessmen) have taken responsibility away from the SMT (useless chancers) for recruitment of the next manager.

I agree the manager is more important than getting players over the line but Appleton was sacked on the 23rd of January, and it wasn't out of nowhere. There would've been a shortlist drawn up already which means 24th of January, invites should've been going out to our prospects. First round of interviews over two days (say 3 per day, depending on the size of the shortlist). Quickfire feedback and round 2 scheduled for the following two days would take us through to 29th January. Even if you add in a day for travel, there's no reason why we're sitting on February first still deliberating. Decision could and should have been made given the urgency of our situation with the window. If Jones or Rowatt inherits the group of players we currently have, I still don't fancy our chances. So on that basis mate should we just be considering manager's who are out of work? They are for a reason. What if we prefer a manager who is currently at another club? The initial approach comes first, then we have to wait for permission to speak. After that the manager in question has to agree personal terms, then it goes back to his club to discuss compo. That takes time, far longer than what has elapsed between MA leaving and now. Not saying we are looking at somebody in a job but if we want the right man, all options have to remain open. Personally I think we'll go Warnock until the end of the season then see what's about. If we are interviewing managers who are currently with a club, that's a different story. If we really wanted Richie Wellens for example, then yeah of course we should play the long game but nobody we've heard about being linked is currently with a club? All of the names linked both on here and 24/25 names listed with the bookies are out of work - www.bettingodds.com/thesackrace/teams/charlton-athletic.
If we go with Warnock I'd like to see which calibre of manager our SMT expect to attract beyond Jones/Rowatt in the summer.

Keep Calm and Carry On 🤦♂️ We are 4 points off the relegation zone, with no manager on deadline day. It’s a shambles. How can anyone say otherwise? I know you always ignore debate Kevin, like BB, but can you actually address those points ? I’m sure seriouslyred is entirely capable of defending himself, but he’s not denying we’re only four points off the relegation places or that it’s a bit of a shambles is he? What he’s saying is that ranting and raving isn’t going to help anyone. The club needs to take the time needed to make the right decision. The decision that’s right for the club in the medium to long term. As fans we need to allow them the space to do that, not throw rocks, and wait patiently for an announcement. What else can we do?

To only slightly misquote your good self Occam’s Razor , sometimes it pays to think a little more and condemn a little less. Have you thought that comment through?

We are never going to agree MundellTwo totally different perspectives on the state of the club, and how we support it. It’s like asking Derek Nimmo to box Mike Tyson. It’s good to have the debate though 👍

I never really saw you as Derek Nimmo, Royston, more Charles Hawtrey.
To be fair the SR mantra of wait and see has never been more appropriate.

Would it not be unprofessional and disrespectful though if we started going public with names of managers we would like who are already in a job? I don't think one single name that has been linked to us, who is in work or otherwise, has been made public by the club. Everything so far is just speculation. When we went after Dave Challinor nobody had a clue and he's in a job. For all we know, they just might be keeping a name or two under the radar.

True, if we end up landing someone from another club I'll take my words back.
For now at least it seems our front-runners don't fall into that category and I think given the urgency of the situation we're in facing relegation, we could've moved faster than we have to try and attract some more talent before the window closes. No decent player in their right mind would come to us now on the promise of a good manager to be confirmed unless we're paying very good money.

Quick question - did someone post a few days ago that one of the investors was coming over to visit? Has this happened, or will it coincide with the game on Saturday?
Or did I imagine this.
Apologies for having a senior moment!

Wasnt one of the criticism of Sandgaard, that we didnt have an SMT and that the Club needed to be run by footballing people? You cant have it both ways, money men making footballing decisions? Doesnt make sense to me. We have a collective of rich owners.... we have an SMT of people who have played the game. Its what people wanted... if SMT arent delivering, change them... if the owners arent rich enough, find people that are...

Apologies for having a senior moment! Cawley posted earlier: "Think it was main investors who spoke to Nathan Jones yesterday." Assuming that was in person rather than via Zoom it probably answers your question.

What a day. No news of Jones appointment and there's a possibility of Neil Warnock taking the job! Yuck.
