Is Graham Potter outside our remit? Has history of managing in the boondocks and got involved in a project that transcended just football. Could he be persuaded to emulate Curbs? He would know that the owners are able to fund purchases.

Potter wouldn’t work in L1 I’d certainly ask him though he would be out of the remit you would feel.

Dave Chalinor at a lower level has had multiple promotions and improved sides with no big budgets. But a shoe-in to be in our division next season, assuming we stay up.

There’s more chance of a lottery win than Graham Potter managing Charlton in 2024.

He would know that the owners are able to fund purchases. In your dreams, in Potters nightmare. He is Premiership quality, he’ll be interviewed by the next Premiership club that sacks their current manager because they think the can do better, which is what happened when people here thought Curb’s wasn’t good enough.

Or big fat Steve Evans. At least he and Keane are passionate feckers. Just what Andy Scott and some of our players need.

When I started supporting the club Jimmy Trotter was the manager. So I’ve seen a few in my time and the only ones to make any significant contribution to the history of Charlton Athletic since were Lawrence, Curbishley, Powell and Bowyer. The rest did their best, but failed miserably.
Who will the next duffer be, Lord knows. It will take some persuasion to get anyone of a decent calibre given our dire circumstances in my view.
We’ve had some low periods recently but currently it’s bad, real bad.

Reams, how long is this appointment expected to take? Should it be fairly soon

Talking of old managers how about Andy Nelson and the even better Mike Bailey both won promotion I remember being upset when Bailey left and was replaced by Alan Mullery. And Jose Riga done a great job when he replaced Powell , probably the Belgiums biggest mistake not keeping him on after he kept us up that season.

And if either Johnson or Pearson get the job I bet we could be having this conversation again within 6 months especially Johnson he has already been fired twice this season, I suppose that’s good form when it comes down to Charlton choosing managers . It’s a pitty the board members don’t read this forum when managers names are mentioned especially in the case of Appleton .

It’s a pitty the board members don’t read this forum when managers names are mentioned especially in the case of Appleton . I had a look back at the official tweet announcing Appletons appointment. It’s not pretty. The most positive replies were all “Not a fan, but I’ll get behind him and the team”. That was a very small percentage though. Most were underwhelmed or completely against it. Never seen an appointment like that before. They have to get this one right. Imo that isn’t an ex-player.

Stevenage are my local team and he's worked miracles there.Promotion last year and sitting just outside the play off places now. All with no money. I'd take him any day, the players wouldn't know what hit them.

If Johnson or Pearson got the job then I could see even more hostility than what Appleton got. Pearson is another Appleton to me. Leicester aside, his record is poor. Hard pass.

In truth whoever gets the gig it is going to be a rough ride but if you got in a manager/coach that supporters could relate to it would be a step in the right direction. Neither Johnson or Pearson are likely to tick that box whereas a Duff or a Eustace probably would.

Big Steve Evan’s has he’s side organised which we ain’t but I’d like Jones or Duff. Warnock would guarantee us safety but it’s unlikely he would join,we should get a couple of wins anyway the squad is better than it’s currently

Plenty of ex-players names in the mix for the managers job but no mention yet of Jorge Costa, currently In charge of Portuguese L2 club AVS, 2nd the table behind leaders Santa Clara.

Plenty of ex-players names in the mix for the managers job but no mention yet of Jorge Costa, currently In charge of Portuguese L3 leaders AVS. Is that a hint, Reams? How well would he understand L1 though - Portugal’s L3 probably equivalent to National League at best. I really don’t know how much of a poisoned chalice managers might see us as now. I’m guessing most currently without a job just wanna get back on the horse ASAP though given that if you stay out too long you’re seen as a has-been. If we can’t get the bloke we want right now, ask Curbs to hold the reins for the rest of the season. He knows this league from CTV and he would command instant respect.

Pearson set up a side that went on to win the Premier league the season after so he's not that bad?! and a massive upgrade on Appleton in my opinion. However first choice would be Jones Rowett, and then Duff. Jorge Costa would certainly be interesting. What's Di Canio up to these days?! He's crazy but certainly has passion 🤣

He I am sure, won't move location. I believe it was reason for leaving Hartlepool.. Think he said also that he was not interested before MA arrived.
