No interview and allegedly didn’t go back on the coach, maybe something is rumbling🤔🤔 Interesting! Maybe the SMT have woken up and smelt the roses.

He needs to go, no question about that. Would love to see Warnock come in and give this squad a real rocket but sadly that won’t happen. Who can we honestly attract (who isn’t another cheap Appleton type) given the state we are in?

I think they mentioned a delay in the interviews before the game or at half time. Can’t remember the reason. Apparently we played well and were unlucky 🤷🏼♂️. He looks completely lost. He clearly wasn’t watching the game I watched.

Wasn't wanted to begin with really, are SE7 really going to write off another game against a wounded, looking to put things right Oxford? I don't know where we go from here, does AS?

Ok time to hold my hands up and say I was wrong! I thought when MA came in he would get us fitter, harder to break down, more organised and get our press going…… I was wrong, we are a complete shambles with wrong players playing in wrong positions No real closing down, we give players so much space to pick a pass, no press at all and our passing is piss poor
I was also wrong about our full backs , neither are great going forward and Edun simply cannot defend, he can only really play as a left wing back IMO Watson down the other side is beige and offers little
Moving forward I think we deffo need to go 3-5-2 Get quality wingbacks on like Powell of Burton and Sorrenson if Lincoln for examples Bring in a left sided centre back to play in the three Get two physical ball playing box to box midfielders to play in front of Dobbo and a physical centre forward to play close to May
That’s 6 new players to come in and I can think very quickly of the 6 players who turned out tonight that should not be playing in our first team

One of the worst managers we have ever had. No other owner would have given him the job in the first place. Cheapest option for owners who are fast becoming out of their depth. I hope the yanks call time on their 'ownership'. I jsut can't see a way back for the club when you have Appleton and Scott failing on every level like they are. Extremely worrying times if even you've lost confidence in this ownership.

Never a fan of constantly changing manager as it only destabilises the club further. Each manager claimig that they're not his players. However, it is starting to look like MA'S position is becoming untenable.
Do we just go through another interview process at a key time when we are looking to build the squad, and end up with another journeyman, or take a risk on a young man with potential that knows the club through and through. Someone that would be respected by fans and players alike. Obviously I am thinking Jason Pearce here.
Right ready to be shot down in flames.

For any new manager joining Charlton, we want you to prioritize playing the young ones as much as possible. If you can implement a 4-3-3 formation, that would be ideal. However, keep in mind that I will be selecting the players for this specific formation; your role will focus on coaching them. Our best finisher is on the wide right because he struggles to hold the ball, but we have other forwards for the central position, although they are not great and are probably worse at ball retention. Additionally, the left back has a sleeping problem, so ensure substitutes are warming up to keep him alert for the full 90 minutes, excluding injury time. Did I mentioned that the best tactic is give the ball to our left winger in the hope he runs down the wing and scores in every single game. Other than that, the job is yours.

Nathan Jones would be the obvious appointment for any ambitious owner. Rip the whole thing up, and start again from scratch.

Appleton's League record is now worse than Holden's (even after the latter's poor start to this season) and also includes two shocking FA Cup performances (1.35 PPG vs 1.37).
Worth noting too that whilst Appleton might bemoan the striker injury situation, Holden got ZERO minutes this season out of any of Leaburn, Aneke or Tedic.
For the 25 games that Holden had in charge last season (38 points) his record was significantly better (1.52 PPG vs 1.35) than Appleton this season, arguably with a weaker squad albeit one that included JRS.
I suspect Holden was quite limited as a manager but replacing him with Appleton after a lengthy search process was an abysmal decision.

He seems to have got worse since telling us he needs the transfer window to be a million times better.
Has he lost the dressing room due to that criticism? Don't get me a wrong, a large majority of the team deserve criticism because they are truly poor or just not ready yet, but you don't publicly slag off already poor and inexperienced players and expect them to get better. It can work with players out of form but I don't believe our poor players have been just out of form..... They are just poor.
You could say to MA "OK prove yourself in this window and see out the season to prove you are worth it". Otherwise if we let him go now we waste another window looking for a manager.
Personally didn't like any of the realistic choices we were linked with before Appleton was chosen (or the only one left). If MA goes what other shite we gonna end up with. Sorry but contrary to the twitterati it should not be Steve Brown. Yes he can see the problems in the team, but so can we; it doesn't mean we can be successful football managers. Most pundits are pundits for a reason.... They can't do the actual job. Wasn't Browns last job managing Margate or something?
A lot of the players need to massively step up too. Fraser, Tedic, Hector, CBT, Jones even Dobson need to massively get their head back in the game.
I still think we need 2 new Centre backs, a strong unit of a defensive midfielder, a winger and another striker, but no way that will happen this transfer window.

I suspect Holden was quite limited as a manager but replacing him with Appleton after a lengthy search process was an abysmal decision. The irony is that the three main investors will have access to this information as well as far more detail regarding player performances, development and value. Rumours of an additional £1M to spend in this window suggest that the SMT will have made some form of presentation a month or so back. But we're now in a very different place. Different to Sept-November but also identical to end August when Holden was drowning. Some fans react badly after every mistake that leads to conceding a goal. Others are more phlegmatic. But our form and our xG is the worst it has ever been. And there's absolutely no reason to presume that it will improve in the near future. Certainly not vs Oxford United on Monday. I recall that we missed Pardew's last game in 2007 when a heavy home defeat placed us in pole position for relegation to the third tier for the first time since 1980. But we were certainly there throughout 2015/16 when Fraeye lost the plot. And Riga attempted a rescue attempt which eventually fell over at Portman Road then Loftus Road. Was at both games where we played well though failed to win either. The contrast today could not be more stark. No point in repeating the various observations about December games. Suffice it to say that Appleton is a dead man walking with next to zero chance of turning this around. So the question is what happens next? How many more abject performances before something shifts in the SMT dynamic, with the fanbase or with the main investors? Are the SMT, Scott and Appleton really locked together in a death spiral?! What's confusing is that the whole point of having a DoF / Head Coach segregation is that at times like this the club can part company with the coach... and have the successor lined up. My advice to the SMT would be to line up a very decent interim Head Coach ASAP. Somebody who can swiftly assess the squad plus work with Scott, the squad and any additions - this to deliver our next win. Mistakes are made all of the time in any profession. It's how we deal with them that defines who we are and our future paths / choices.

seriouslyredNo manager can survive for long once he’s lost the fanbase, it’s just a matter of time, and that is where Appleton is now. One well known fan at the game last night has told me it was toxic against him. It’s nothing personal against MA, he was a free agent for a reason and is a lower league journeyman manager who’s had 8/9 clubs for a reason. He’s performing as we all expected. He’s just the latest fall guy for the Three Idiots immediately above him in the food chain.

It matters, not, why we are here, but it is depressing to have wasted a whole year and the decline that comes with it - lower income, reduced supports etc.

If we lose to Oxford, he’s going to be asking the SMT some serious questions.
