I want to see things improve for this club on and off the pitch so I wish him every success. The owners and management team have made their decision, time will tell, but for now the best thing we can all do is give our whole hearted support to the squad of players that pull on the shirt each week. I’m pretty sure the vast majority of the clubs fan base feels this way.

I've got nothing against the guy. And I hope he is a success. But I don't think he is going to be looking back on his recent career.
I hoped for something a little different... Something more ambitious. This just seems like a very average appointment of a limited manager.
So the question is, was Appleton the only person willing to work on the vision set by the board? Maybe other candidates were interested to begin with, but didn't like what they were being told.

Could have been better but could have been worse, not too inspired myself, but like others on here, he will have my support. He may well have joined us at the right time with Leaburn back and hopefully Fraser and Camara not too far off which will make a huge difference to the first eleven. As long as he sorts out our very leaky defence pronto, we may well be ok, good luck Mr. Appleton! Agree. He’s come in at a good time. We hopefully have our stronger players coming back from injury soon and this short break will hopefully help us. Really want to see their fitness improve over the next month. If we do well in the first few games, then the fans will quickly get on side imo. I don’t want to think about the opposite scenario. We’re scoring goals. So he needs to get us organised at the back and we’ll then have a chance.

Who wants to see us lose? Nobody. But if Appleton is a net loser there will be a reaction pretty quickly.

Totally agree mate and that is why I stopped posting on there. However, I can't get past CM either and if he had nothing to do with this appointment, which I do believe, then it is down to Scott and Rodwell and neither of those seem to know our fanbase. Agree with you. Not sure why a club that isn't spending any money needs a techical director. There is nothing technical about us. This is going to get messy and there will be no resistence from me when the shit hits the fan. You’ve changed your tune again. You told us that the defence is shite and you told members of SE7 at the races in no uncertain terms that this was the case! Why do you continue to defend them when you are opposed to their choices? This is Charlie boys bag as he installed the likes of Scott who in bringing/brought in the shite in January, thankfully gone, and the crocks and unfit players in the last window. You are well aware that CMs attempt to get the budget down to 1/2 million losses a season will not turn us into the next Ipswich no matter how you contradict yourself in your attempts to convince us that the two are compatible. They aren’t. We need to sell our best players for this to happen and who or what crock , freebie or loan will Scott replace them with? The only reason for changing ownership was to improve and get out of this league. That’s not happening with SE7 and their cost cutting . You know this. Are you defending CM ( no reason to) or are you defending yourself as the main character for promoting their BS?

Like many fans of lower league clubs if we can keep most of our squad healthy - Chuks excepted - then we may get ourselves in the top 10 by season end. But by giving away too many points in August and recruiting too many new arrivals who are far from match fit our chances of top 6 are already greatly diminished. But as always I will also fully support the new gaffer albeit that I’m far from excited over the appointment which appears to sum up the mood of the fans forums.

Hope he's allowed to bring his own staff in, and if this appointment doesn't work Scott should be worrying about his job imo.

I have no idea whether this is a good appointment, but quite frankly nor does anyone else in the fan base. Only time will tell, as would have been the case with any of the choices more popular with the club’s fans. What I do know is that Andy Scott would have had a clear idea what he was looking for and concluded, based on hard evidence, references and interviews, that Michael Appleton fits the bill. At this stage that’s could enough for me. All the rest is noise. I’d much rather have a Head Coach who talks about systems and zones and developing players than one who’s banal rhetoric is around getting the players ‘playing for the shirt’. 🎯 🎯 🎯 Great post.

I am not too conversant with the politics of our club let alone whether Appleton is the man for the job or not,But i am getting some negative vibes that this board along with Appleton are dead keen on developing young tallent.Nothing wrong with that, but the synical amongst us,particularly us (wait for it like a broken record) can only see the decades old strategy of selling players to survive.is not the answere Being long in the tooth, i find this grossely depressing and disappointing. Most sucessful. ambitious clubs hang on to their star players for the reasons that many flock to see a particular player play week after week A young fella buys a shirt with his hero's name blazed thereupon only to be shot down, when he is sold There are small margins when you are skint. Look at the non replacement of Rak Saki Puts us back to square one If as i suspect, the powers in their wisdom sell on our next youth prospect, it will be back to square one All in all If Appleton can get a defence strategy working, and with good forwards bought in the last window , we cann climb the table We hav'nt been flogged just the odd unlucky or unfortunate goal against us. Having severe doubts about Scott already I'm afraid. Nothing done so far suggests a top six spot. I really hope I'm wrong I think it’s entirely fair to say that the jury is still out on Andy Scott. It’s much too early to make an objective assessment of either process or outcomes. What I think we can say is that a Technical Director is a must have for any modern football club with ambition. It’s also interesting that the club intends to appoint a Director of Performance. That’s also encouraging. CAST and the cognoscenti on the other forum claim that they want the club to be run in a sustainable manner. That’s obviously not easily achieved given that CAFC is inherently loss making, but rather than recognise this, instead, fans criticise and complain whenever an owner sets out the only strategy which might plausibly achieve sustainable success. It’s obvious to all of us that the easiest way to achieve on field success is to recruit an entire squad of experienced players, ideally including as many players as possible who have already proven they are capable of winning promotion from League One or of playing at the level above. This is what the club did in 2011-12 and to a lesser extent in 2018-19. Such squads might need motivating, but they don’t need much coaching or tactical subtlety. The downside with this approach, of course, is that it’s expensive and because there can never be any guarantee it will succeed it may not be sustainable, especially if it blocks the pathway from the academy, produces little in the way of player trading profits and risks leaving unproductive players on expensive contracts. It’s already very clear that SE7 are not looking to repeat the strategies which worked in 2011-12 and 2018-19. They’re obviously unwilling to spend the money necessary to do so and plan to be more patient. Inevitably, this means the recruitment will be less impressive, at least initially, and immediate success less likely. This also means it’s harder to judge our recruitment because the new players are less proven. The same applies to those promoted from the academy. Nevertheless, we can at least say that the recruitment is true to label, i.e. it’s entirely consistent with what Methven and others have said the club is aiming to do. The same applies to the appointment of Michael Appleton. To succeed with a development strategy the club needed a genuine coach, one willing and able to work with and develop young players, rather than a more focused man manager like Powell in 2011-12 or Bowyer in 2018-19. We can’t know whether any of this will work so there is no doubt that the jury is out, but at least there is a coherent strategy and an approach to execution which is aligned to it. We haven’t seen this at the club for many years and at least from my perspective it’s a breath of fresh air following the suffocating narcissism of Captain Bullshit.

Our young talent, even when overplayed people say can't win anything with youngsters. How long do you wait for a crop to develop?. Premiership clubs can afford extortionate wages, whilst waiting.

Sorry - haven't got the hang of this, yet. Anyway, I have a very similar perspective to Mundell's post. We have to have faith in Andy Scott, who has a very tricky job to do. He somehow has to get at least five or six players together that we feel will be Championship level in a year or two's time.
Without the quality of player, the team will not be good enough. Currently it is hard to get much further than Dobbo and Leaburn to be inked in on that list, and both of those could go. Some of the other young players may get there but others may falter.Only time will tell if any of the new recruits from this window will make it. Ultimately this is how Scott will be judged. He has now also chosen his new coach, and although it doesn't inspire me much, Scott is closer to the candidates and seems to be a pretty driven guy.
This window has come a bit too early for Scott really. He hasn't had much time to get his ducks in a row, and the fear of taking on more longer term playing liabilities is likely to have had an affect on him. Hopefully we will find that at least a couple of his choices are a cut above our current standard once they have bedded in.
So I am accepting Appleton as Scott's choice. Hopefully they will make a good team and bring the best out of each other.

Never mentioned anything about the squad at the races because they hadn't even taken over at that point so no players had arrived so wind your neck in you idiot. Im not defending anybody. Either you can't read or you are thicker than I thought you are. One thing that is a fact is that you post without reading. I already said last night that if things kicked off I would not offer any resistence or did you miss that? Selective reading. I am not defending CM at all. that's obvious to most and I have told you many times if you have questions for him then approach him and ask instead of banging on about it on here like a broken record. It's also CM who I gave my opini8ons to regarding our defenders and that was 10 days ago so read back over this thread before you decide to make things up in your head. This is two minutes of my life that I won't get back. I should just bite my tongue but WUMS like you just bring the worst out in me. Carry on and Im kicking you into touch. Get some help for fucks sake. It's not normal the way you behave.

I can understand the logic of recruiting young players with potential, but we need to get out of this fucking league. This is not some project. If we don't get up this year we are going to lose what quality we've got. Which quite frankly is Leaburn, Dobson and Anderson (this bloke is gonna be a top player)

Considering the source of investors and the comments raised by Scott concerning both the managerial appointment and comments he made directly to the squad, the running of our club is similar to that of an American franchise.
Trouble is, we are a league one side that is desperately underachieving and sounds like we are simply over complicating our day to day operations behind the scenes!
Only time will tell but feel even with investment in the squad or not, this form of franchising is not a benefit for a club in league one.
Time will tell….

‘We’ve improved the squad from last season and now the manager’ Really ?? I give you Alfie May and that sounds that Sandgaard signed him, but the others mediocre league 1 players? The manager improved slightly better than Dean Holden. There was we thinking that they were going to bring in better when they took over. Then they bring in Appleton which suggests to me that there is no serious money. Camara mediocre league 1 player really ??

Windows happen every 23 games and after the 2023 windows, we've seen a remarkable change in the squad. One could add other players to Dobson and Leaburn as there are another few who belong in the first XI. But probably best to await the teamsheet next Saturday, then see how we play. Give them 10 games before fully forming an opinion, and before we know it the January window will be on the horizon. And that's a time when we might discuss what's required for 2024. That's a time when we might make comparisons to late 2022 before SE7 Partners arrived.

When you come across a club manager who succeeded on some occasions but not others, you'd have to look deeper at why. It does appear sometimes they try to make the squad fit the system rather than the system fit the squad, which has been an issue with some of our recent managers (not Johnnie Jackson, but he wasn't with us long enough. AFC Wimbledon are doing reasonably well this season so far)
I'm wondering what the "there was lots wrong with the club" was that the board saw when they came in. (Does it mean a number of players on high wages who aren't good enough?)

Lots of attacking options, lots of midfielders but a defence that needs sorting.
Michael has a decent chance of making this work and a lot of new players/good players returning from injury have barely featured yet.
Brentford wasn't built in a day.

The fact we have employed a charlton Meme over the years is hilarious and I expected a better name but il give him my support we all want the same thing for us to be successful and at minimum a championship stable club which for a club of our history and tradition shouldn’t be too much to ask for.
