I will give him a chance but a very disappointing but extremely predictable appointment.

Appleton wouldn't have been my first choice, but as with any new manager or player he starts with my full support.

Had it all but confirmed to me earlier and my response was not a happy one. I'm told his success at Lincoln and Oxford were valid reasons why he will be iffered the job but I said you are only as good as your last post and Appleton was sacked after a 10 game winless streak last January.
I can't watch an Appleton side and I doubt I will.

Completely underwhelming appointment and remarkably unimaginative. Beats me how this is an upgrade on Holden.

He's probably the only guy that wanted the job with the given terms. Not very inspiring but I wish him well, if we want the club to succeed we should give him a chance.

Most of his opinion is based on when Appleton was at Oxford but this was 2014-2017 and football has changed a lot since then so still doesn't convince me to get excited. Obviously we want him to do well but I just cant see it happening and can see him not seeing the season through

I'm not really wowed by the appointment.... I thought we'd be a little more imaginative, and go for someone like Nathan Jones for example..... he's gonna have to hit the ground running and winning

I'll get behind him and support the team of course. I just really hope he starts well as he's not going to get a very good reception from the fan base if we don't see quick results. I do rate George Elek and his views. Hopefully he does work out for us. Thanks for sharing zhengsociety

Obviously we want him to do well but I just cant see it happening and can see him not seeing the season through Tbf if you read through the replies he also talks about getting Lincoln to the play offs with a relegation budget. Harsh to judge someone on the Blackpool job when they were already doomed. It’s not inspiring or a big name but I’ll get behind him and see what happens.

Welcome to the club Michael .. joining at a good time we have a decent squad , great young players , great potential and owners who have money to spend .. ….. this club can only go upwards
Think the big thing with MA that may have gave him the edge was the success he had with young teams

Good for Appletons pension fund 2 years pay and his last job in football a total uninspiring appointment and joins the list of awful Charlton managers.

I’m asking for trouble, but here goes!
What is it that fans have against Appleton? I’ll admit I’m not a student of the game and don’t over analyse things too much and therefore I know nothing of his past career or success/failure rate other than what’s available on line. So is it his style of play, his personality, man management skills or that he doesn’t shave very often?
I’m genuinely interested and it’s not a dig at anyone as we are, after all, fans of the same club and all want it to succeed.

Like everyone else I'm not massively sold but I'm not sure who in that line-up I would be sold on. I think most of the time manager success comes down to things lining up for them. Bowyer wasn't a tactically brilliant coach but we got very lucky with loans and Lyle Taylor that meant we have a side that was stronger than the division (even if we did squeeze up through the play-offs). Same with the Cowleys, great spell at Lincoln then nothing.
Unless you're a real top-tier manager you usually ride your career based on one very good success story but sometimes the stars align and the player set is right for them. Just look at how much Poch and Ten-Haag are struggling compared to Postecoglou. I know most people laughed when he was appointed at Tottenham but they're transformed under him.
We don't have a choice but to give it time, I feel sorry for him coming into the club with the start we've had and how much scrutiny the 'new era' is currently under, although justifiably so.

Does anyone remember 1980s Vietnam show 'Tour of Duty.'?
Michael Appleton is a dead ringer for that bullet proof, obviously unhinged sergeant that occasionally appeared in the show.

Brennan Johnson, who recently completed a deadline-day move to Tottenham Hotspur for a reported £47.5m fee, enjoyed his breakthrough campaign under Appleton’s tutelage, scoring 10 goals and registering 12 assists.

Good luck Michael let’s hope you’re lucky
Because let’s face it that’s the only way we are getting promoted.
Sad to say that this looks a cheap option like the signings.

Welcome to the club Michael .. joining at a good time we have a decent squad , great young players , great potential and owners who have money to spend .. ….. this club can only go upwards Think the big thing with MA that may have gave him the edge was the success he had with young teams Why do you keep saying that we can only go upwards? It's clearly not the case, we've been in a downward spiral for about 15 years and there's plenty further we can fall. Obviously we all hope that we've hit rock bottom, but it's not guaranteed by any stretch.
