Holden amassed a win percentage of 37% .. shocking! I think it was definitely the right decision but a big call has to come next!

I agree. This is clearly a risk. Reckless on Methven’s part if true, but a risk nevertheless. If true, Methven is making a bet (with his own money too) on the skill and added value potential of the Technical Director, Performance Director and Head Coach. There’s perhaps also some wishful thinking around the conveyor belt of talent from the academy. On a positive note, it was fairly clear that Dean Holden wasn’t the right head coach for this kind of strategy so it’s a good sign that the club has been decisive about that. The question obviously is who they appoint in his place. As I said on another thread, to be coherent with the plan it needs to be someone with a Liam Manning, Luke Williams, Brian Barry Murphy type profile. I guess we’ll see. These kind of ‘bets’ are not without risk of course. But curiously only a few months ago someone close to the ownership group (probably Scott?) thought Holden was the right appointment for the strategy and then worse on limited evidence gave him an additional three year contract! The timeline was: - late December SE7 Partners arrive with Holden - changes to Garner matchday squad immediately with AMB, Ness and others preferred whilst five or six leave - 10th Feb SE7 Partners booted by Sandgaard who has an offer from Spiegel... Storrie appointed CEO - March Holden awarded 3 year deal - May/June players released and SE7 make new offer for 100% CAFC - end July EFL approval Scott returns Perhaps Holden was the right man at the time, but this month has demonstrated that's no longer the case? Today we have an experienced Technical Director running Sparrows Lane. We now need an enthusiastic manager who is aligned on formation, tactics, and player development. Especially Academy lads who once again make 40% of the appearances. Re Methven and his Telegraph piece, US investors and losses: - we need to double our commercial revenue - an extra £1M on media if we reach top six again / appear more - Championship deal rises to £8M possibly higher in the future depending upon EPL? - Some clubs lose £5-10M before player sales while others lose £20M+! - The investors have committed to two years losses as per EFL takeover rules What happens in 2025 is unclear. But for a smoother ride we really need to compete for promotion in 12 months time. Player sales could pay for 50% of the losses for 2023/24 and 2024/25. But Methven was suggesting a drop in operating losses too!

Holden was fine to come in with the squad we have to get the best out of it to avoid relegation. His record wasn't that good really, it was mediocre, but mediocre was enough to get us to 10th.
The new board came in in July and it was Dean Holden who knew the football squad as it stood and what was needed to improve it, so much of that was put as his responsibility. Even if Andy Scott had arrived immediately he wouldn't have yet known the player we had, and that's where Roland's crew made a major mistake, because they charged in with a bunch of players that were not what Charlton needed at the time and they should have consulted with Chris Powell who was the manager at the time.
As Holden clearly did a bad job, he was let go. It was actually clear to me that our main problems over the last season have been defensive. It was a weakness of Ben Garner before him too.
Yes, we needed a main striker, and we got that with Alfie May.
Maybe a new coach will even get the best out of Corey Blackett-Taylor whom I think has potential if he can improve his later play.
(By the way, it would be better if we discussed the managerial issue here and transfer issues in the other topic)
I'm not upset they let Holden go as I think we can do better and he isn't the one to take us forward.

Would assume the new manager and his team are lined up as we have cleared the way 🤔wouldn’t it just be a nice change to be like every other club instead of this constant merry go round 🙄

A long, and (I hope) balanced view of the season so far...
In my opinion, our season started to go wrong in the first half of the pre-season game against Welling.
That tackle, that crocked Miles, threw everything out of kilter. I'm not saying he's the finished article by any means, but he has been the focal point of our attack, ever since Stockley left. (I won't say "target man", as that sound like the lump that Stockley became after his injury.)
Miles is much more than that. He is good enough in the air. Also his ball control is good enough. And also, he is quick enough. (Note: I am using "enough" a lot. That's because, for a League 1 side, to have all these attributes in one player is a massive bonus.)
The fact that no kind of replacement was found, (note I didn't even use the word "adequate"!) was criminal. And I don't believe that the CMT should have been forced to paying over the odds for any of their targets, like the prices quoted for Nombe of JCH. But we could have sniffed around, even in non-league, for someone who could've filled the gap until the return of Leaburn. (In fact, a non-league striker would've made more sense, probably understanding being a squad player, more than a more established name. And, if they had been successful, and kept Miles out, better resale value in the future!)
Just to make clear, I'm a big fan of Alfie May. Great work rate, and a good finisher. But being the focal point of a team's attack, is not in his skill set.
Secondly, the injury to Fraser in the Orient game. I went to a game towards the end of last season, (under Holden) when Scott was rested. We looked totally bereft of ideas. (We ended up losing the game.) And it was clear, at that point, how absolutely CRUCIAL Fraser would be in any attempts to have a dash at promotion. Now, we can argue about whether the club should have "all their eggs in one basket", but I can't help thinking that we could've hoped that SOMEONE in the playing staff, could have stepped into the breach. (Kirk is the obvious example, in terms of skill set, but is the desire there? Clearly not.)
So, to me, Holden has been hampered by an unprecedented batch of early season injuries, the signing of undercooked players (e.g. Jones, who we signed despite him having surgery in the close season), and a lack of foresight in transfer business, particularly after those injuries.
Saying that, though, Dean is responsible for the general fitness of the squad, and we've plainly failed at that level. Consider how many goals we've conceded after 80 minutes, due to lapses of concentration. Which is a classic sign of fatigue. And for that, Holden and his staff, were entirely culpable.
Putting Pearcey in charge, in the interim, makes some sense. A bit of "blood and thunder" in the defence won't go amiss. And a few 1-0 wins as our back line plays like a team of Pearces will help our league position, until a more seasoned, and (dare I say it!) adventurous coach is appointed.

Oh great, he'll bring in Niall Quinn and Mickey Gray to really put the boot in and finish us for good. They've been looking for revenge ever since that fantastic day at Wembley...

Whoever comes in needs to get us a midfield ASAP… one which can protect the defence and support the attacking players..

Yes it was definitely Sandgaard who gave Holden the extension. It was a crime against allowing that lunatic to run a football club.

The reason was to reveal to them that Sandgaard DID breach their period of exclusivity despite Sandgaard denying it.

Whoever our new manager is I would like him to be allowed to bring in his own coaching staff. Holden was not allowed to do this and we promoted youth team coaches to assist him. This must not happen again imo.

Would love to get Scott Parker down there. Bit of a coo at this level. Hopefully ship Hayes off out of it too!

Approaching Ferguson hopefully bodes well for the type of manager we are after. Would be difficult to get him seeing his long affiliation with Peterborough and the fact they are probably less of a circus,
