We are sacking manager at the rate of 1 a season. I guess this means no transfers in as we do not have a manager and first team coaching staff. Won’t made a diff to recruitment, they know what positions we need

Trying to attract players in to the club in the last week of the transfer window after sacking the manager- LOL. The club is done, fucking basket case and people should stay well away. I’m having a bad day but I genuinely wish I supported another club sometimes. Players don’t care about that as long as they get a contract and decent wages … the club are showing some bollocks and not letting it drag on

REAMS OF VERSE. You've gone very quiet . What's your take on the latest developments ? Personally, I think the whole thing stinks.. Holden being the fall guy For CM and co. Been away for the weekend mate. Some things are far more important than football.

Radio news just said it was done BY TEXT..that’s poor and someone chickened out… That's somebody causing mischief and we don't have far to look who it might be. Pillocks.

I should have said sacking managers at more than one aseason. It looks like we have incompetent owners who ever they are again. That are unwilling or unable to spend the money required to get a London based league 1 club any where near promotion. From fire to fire. Quite the opposite regarding the money. I do wish people, here there and everywhere woudl just stop making assumptions about something they know nothing about and are complete wrong for that matter.

A concern of mine is the squad we have. Holdens been trying to build for a 3-5-2. Do we have enough options to change that if the next manager prefers a different formation?
Better to make the decision now and not next week when the window is shut but it’s surely added another complication to an already near impossible task. Do we now need wingers? Will the new manager want to keep Kirk?

As I have posted several times in the past couple of weeks, Andy Scott will be our next manager.
OK, it's happening earlier than I expected, but he will be announced as caretaker manager tomorrow or Tuesday and then get it full time (regardless of results) at some point in September.
We're not going to add an extra salary to the pot by hiring in someone who doesn't already work here.
FWIW I think Scott will do a better job than Holden (although obviously that's not too difficult).

I'm neither surprised nor disappointed at this news. Now we will see the club's real ambition by what kind of manager they bring in.

Results haven't been good but bit of a shock to sack him, I wouldn't be surprised Curbs is brought in to help. Going to be a interesting week ahead.

Well, Charlton Athletic being a basket case of a club is, what feels like, a never ending vicious cycle. I’ve stayed away from talking about ownership for a while because it is the main topic of conversation at this club and I am long since bored of it.
Five games in to the season is too early, I feel. It has not been great but I think you should be given a little longer to do the job. As for the timing, a few days out from the window closing, it’s appalling.
I liked Dean Holden a lot. He spoke well, handled himself well and come across as a really genuine man. Some of his actions were nice to read about. I hope he goes on and does well somewhere.
As for the next one it will not be Andy Scott.

Strange, one for me, five games in with the window, about to close and holden not really been backed that much considering we’ve been screaming out for a striker for weeks . The team selection for Oxford did seem to suggest something was wrong. And the tactics well. Chris Wilder for me

Of those being linked listed below according to bookies, tbh I'd be happy with either Crowley, Moore or Bowyer returning not necessarily that order. No chance getting someone like Wilder
Crowley Moore Pearce Cotteril Bowyer Robinson Johnson Appleton Wilder
I'm still a bit shocked about Holden going. The more I think about it it's probably more to do with the circumstances than his ability given he was the one the new owners wanted in.
But what's done is done. We need to move on quickly to have chance in this transfer window.

One thing that’s got a little bit lost in all the frothing anger about tactics and selection is what a cracking guy Dean Holden is. That’s an important thing and we shouldn’t lose sight of it. Reams said something about some things being more important than football. Holden has conducted himself superbly and goes with my absolute best wishes.

Reams you’re right in terms of there are a lot of fans who don’t understand how it all works in the background. I’d be very surprised if they haven’t got someone lined up ready to come in. If an appointment takes a while and nothing is lined up then I’ll become worried. By sacking more than just the manager it shows me they have a plan. Next they need to freshen up the sports science department , we don’t look fit and this has been an issue for number of years. Hopefully new guys brings in a whole new backroom team , costs money but it’s important. Next 2-3 days are crucial.

Andy Scott will remain in the more important and strategic role of Technical Director. This relates to your comment on another thread about Duchatelet v SE7. There wasn’t much wrong with Duchatelet’s intentions or his strategy for the club, it was his execution that was the problem. It was bewilderingly incompetent with his refusal to appoint experienced professionals to key executive roles inexplicable. SE7’s approach is clearly very different and includes both a Technical Director and a Director of Performance. I’d be amazed if that all goes up in smoke just a few weeks in. They’d lose all credibility. Happy to eat oodles of humble pie if I’m wrong.

I suspect (and in one case know) that the new owners know next to nothing about how English football's finances really work at the lower levels, so I'm increasingly concerned they've been sold a complete pup by CM if he genuinely believes we can reach annual operating losses of £1-2m.
Unless our transfer policy on exits presumably of Academy players is absolutely stellar (not a zero probability admittedly given some prospects coming through), then reaching those reduced losses will only happen by operating with a materially lower relative wage bill (both versus our own recent history but also other competing clubs).
Several clubs have shown this need not be a barrier to success (eg Luton, Plymouth, Accrington etc) but the correlation between wages and success is clear.
Moreover to improve upon the base 'expected' performance implied by the wage bill requires a combination of excellent coaching and player recruitment/scouting, neither of which the club has been remotely successful at in recent years. Meanwhile attendances fall further as fans lose interest thus cutting revenues and requiring further wage cuts to maintain target losses.
So in short I fear the owners have put some capital up front for the purchase, will be asked for (perhaps modest given the plan) additional capital for the ongoing losses to own a club plodding along in L1 (or worse!) with little prospect of winning the one let alone two promotions which might offer some prospect of a return on the investment.

I agree. This is clearly a risk. Reckless on Methven’s part if true, but a risk nevertheless. If true, Methven is making a bet (with his own money too) on the skill and added value potential of the Technical Director, Performance Director and Head Coach. There’s perhaps also some wishful thinking around the conveyor belt of talent from the academy. On a positive note, it was fairly clear that Dean Holden wasn’t the right head coach for this kind of strategy so it’s a good sign that the club has been decisive about that. The question obviously is who they appoint in his place. As I said on another thread, to be coherent with the plan it needs to be someone with a Liam Manning, Luke Williams, Brian Barry Murphy type profile. I guess we’ll see. These kind of ‘bets’ are not without risk of course.

I think Sandgaard gave Holden the three year contract when the deal with SE7 Partners looked dead in the water. Sandgaard made so many bad decisions I’m not sure this one was anywhere near his top ten.
