Why ...... Peeters said we have tired to buy players already in the championship but get quoted silly prices ...... Why should we pay twice as much for a lesser player then we can get abroad ...... Why Because our history is as a London, working class and working mans club FFS. Not as the casual plaything of a bunch of European metrosexuals and Johnny cum latelys. One other point BB - isn't the time to really judge Peeters, rather than walking behind him with your tongue hanging out, when he has stood up to RD like the last two managers did? It all seems a bit......cosy at the moment in comparison, doesn't it? Maybe Riga was an obstructive pain in the arse, but then again maybe Peeters really is the Yes Man his surprising plucking from obscurity suggested at the time?

Lived all of my life within 10 miles of the Valley. Not that it matters. Address the point. Oh dear . . . Oh dear what. You presumably live in Exeter. Not the issue. Answer my point about the balance of the squad.

British footballers are crap, over paid prima donnas, surely you can see that?
I heard your type Royston barking out Clive who? Yann who once upon a time and both rammed it down the throats of those that thought they knew something about them but knew nothing.
Remember the names Joe Gomez and Morgan Fox mate because they are the only two youngsters worth a place in the squad and will lay a part this season the others are nowhere near it, Lennon is on his way but the rest will not make it as Pro footballers, fans are going OTT over our academy.
The striker who has come in is an improvement on Pigot, Church and Polish Pete and that will do for me.

I find it very hard to believe that there was not a British option in the striking department that was better than this guy. His CV cries out "journeyman". All I will say is that RD has brought in seven players in the last couple of weeks, and not one of them is a Brit. That is appalling, IMO. If you add these to the 8 players he signed last season, he has actually signed one British player (Tudgay) out of 15. Something is very wrong here. Will we ever sign another British player while RD is owner I am not saying don't sign any foreigners, but there needs to be a balance. It is seriously starting to feel to me that this recruitment policy, alongside the dismissal of back room stalwarts, and the way that some fans ( )appear very keen to either offload or rubbish our Academy products, points to an agenda at work. Amidst all of the OTT gushing every time we sign another Belgian , it would be nice to hear certain fans praise our Academy lads - the guys our Valley Gold goes towards nurturing. It strangely never seems to happen? It's almost as if some people, and not just our owner, are keen to dismiss Charlton's history because they were not a part of it. Agree with this 100%

You are aware British players command twice the transfer fee and wages of foreigners right? That's why Roland isn't signing Brits. Besides, three of Rolands signings have significant English experience: Moussa, Ben Haim and Bikey. That old chestnut. I suppose Ventekole and Buyens are playing here for shirt buttons. Exactly. Relocation fees for moving abroad must cost a bit.

I guarantee you that Yoni Buyens wages are being paid by Liege. Vetokele was the top scorer for a side that plays in Europe, of course he was going to cost money.

@aa
There is no such thing as a free transfer these days, particularly under Bosman. Sweaty palms have to be greased. People have to be wined and dined. Brown envelopes get left in funny places. People get signing on fees, paid into off shore bank accounts. If the player is of a certain pedigree and decent, that is fair enough. Of the players we have brought in this summer, I would say that only one - the Icelandic boy, falls into that category. Buyens is a loan. Ventekole has it all to prove, looking at the size of the boy my hunch is that Championship centre halves will have him on toast. Ben Haim was a needs must signing. Moussa was ok but will have got a signing on fee. The last two - Bikey and this fella George, are an insult to the hundreds of British pros who could do the job better.
Please don't anyone trot out the "Brits are too expensive" line - not when RD has just let our best one slip through his hands for nowt.
And I really don't get this "gratitude to RD" schtick, either. Do you seriously imagine he is investing in us for altruistic reasons? He is no better than the Spivs.

Why Because our history is as a London, working class and working mans club FFS. Oh come on, Nick. And women didn't go to football, we used to carry rattles rather than smart phones, goalies were real men who didn't wear gloves and if we lost there was always the compensation of a good old ruck with the away fans before they took the tram back home. The days when Johnny Summers took the same bus from Eltham to a match as the fans and carried his boots in a brown paper bag were great. But they're gone, mate, however much we mourn their passing. I wish you could share my excitement at the League of Nations Charlton Global All-Stars that Duchatalet and Peeters are building. Your mate Enoch wouldn't have liked it. But as someone whose personal DNA is old-fashioned British working-class to the core but has a French wife and an African daughter-in-law, I find it quite thrilling.

Give it a rest Royston we would be in league 1 by now if it wasn't for his investment we signed hardly any players worth of note under the chuckle brothers. As for Poyet going wasn't RD'S thought it was those two not having a pot to piss in .

The last two - Bikey and this fella George, are an insult to the hundreds of British pros who could do the job better. Hundreds? I have to disagree with you there. I don't see too many quality English/British players around.
Also, is it an insult to Chris O'Grady that we have signed George Tucudean, when he had his chance?

Not really but if Championship players don't lower there wage demands then there will be alot of Footballers out of work it can't go on clubs will fold . That's why the clubs looking abroad cheap on wages and possibly a little signing on fee.I grant you its a risk time will tell if it was a good idea

Oh dear what. You presumably live in Exeter. Not the issue. Answer my point about the balance of the squad. It was a joke, Royston. "Are you local" is the catchphrase of the character in your avatar and you were making a point about a lack of British players, hence I combined those two elements in a quick witted way. Such a waste

Did anyone complain when we were in the Prem with Jensen, Di Canio, Hreidarsson, Kishishev, Bartlett, Rommedahl, Fish, El Karkouri Jonatan Johansson, Smertin etc etc? ,

It's the former boards for not locking him into a longer contract. Poyet was free to talk to other clubs before Rolly even took over Charlton. Oh and I would love Charlton to turn into Man City or Chelsea, then maybe people who bitch and moan would have something to cheer about.

Royston you clearly cannot understand English so would you like me to arrange for Poyet to tell you in Spanish or Uruguayan that he wanted to move on, he did not want to play for us and in the cheeky twats' own words felt it was a no brainer to leave Charlton once he heard WHU were interested.
Don't start me on Poyet FFS! Where were you in January this year when Poyet stated that he considered himself English but would not turn down an opportunity to represent Uruguay??
If you love him that much go to West Ham and watch him and give us all a rest from your negativity.

As Andy says it's gone totally off topic so let's get back on track, any remaining issues on the current argument then revisit one of the many threads that are still live that Royston has started about the same thing!

i was a little wary of the foreign invasion but then thought of the many joyless years seeing charlton full of british players. most peoples view of us is a typically bland club . we celebrate league one titles like they actually mean anything. maybe for once this era might produce exciting football and if we get to the premier maybe win something or at least attempt to this time. i am really excited about the season got a feeling it wont be charlton and thats great news !

Our formation becomes interesting... Let's assume Igor will start as he cost a few quid...will Reza play in the hole with Tucudean alongside Igor? Gudmundson out wide left with Wilson wide right. Moussa and Buyens in central midfield.. Where does Coussins fit in? - gotta be goals in that front six? Doesn't look so weak now? Just gotta get the formula right... Over to you Bob!
