I don’t know why the fans are getting so uptight about this. We all know how interesting people are over Wrexham because of the Disney and Ryan Reynolds. It’s not ideal but the club can take advantage of it so it will make people buy these. I’m dreading seeing full of plastics around me but at the same time it’s good source of income for the club and the fans need to realise this!

Something about this game is doing my head in. Can’t put my finger on it but I might even blow it out. fFor me it’s because it’s being blown up like some sort of semi final match - it’s looking like a fuking circus - I want knowt to do with it !

If we make it through to the 3rd round of the FA Cup and drew Palace or Millwall would people wear a half and half with one of them? I'd rather have no neck

I think that’s it Andy. This lot are absolutely nothing to me. I’m facing the realisation that at 42 years of age I’m now part of a completely different generation that just doesn’t get this absolute nonsense.

People are only going to buy that half n half scarf because it’s Ryan Reynolds and Disney, not Wrexham in itself. I don’t like it neither but the club has got to make some money behind it one way or another. I don’t blame the club at all over this. Simple thing is, don’t like it, don’t buy it!

Over 4,000 of the crowd will be first-time visitors from the South East London and Kent area, together with 1,000 visitors from foreign countries. Charlton CEO Charlie Methven said: "We are delighted with the attendance and looking forward to seeing what a packed-out Valley delivers in terms of atmosphere. The intention of our 'Welcome to London' campaign was precisely to encourage new local audiences to come and sample what Charlton has to offer, so it's gratifying for our marketing team to see so many local first-time attendees. It's important to note, though, that the sheer number of 'first-timers' will bring with it a few operational challenges. We would encourage all fans to arrive as early as possible." Fans should arrive early and enjoy the day. The club need to ensure that there are enough stewards, retail and catering staff to keep queues down. And our 4-4-2 box midfield (or whatever we play) all need to turn up! Much has been written about the Wrexham story, but we have our own narrative with thin margins between success and failure. Some of the Valley Virgins might not be convinced, but there's the potential to convert some of the 4,000 into regular visitors, IF we deliver. And that's what makes the case for more investment in January. Not "we're failing on the pitch so give us more" but "our club is growing again and needs some more quality to stay on a decent trajectory". Most of us have little experience of marketing, but we have seen success and failure with different Charlton SMT approaches over the years. It helps that Wrexham have a massive social media following, but this FULL PRICE promotion could be repeated for the Huddersfield game or whoever. We need new fans as much as we need lapse fans to return. And we need ALL revenue streams to grow so as to justify investment in the squad during the 2025 windows.

Invest in the team and the football fans will be hooked

It's not unimaginable that we will win (we're favourites with the bookies) and defeating 'the mighty Wrexham' in front of 5,000 neutrals would be a pretty good recruitment move tbh!

Investment in the 2025 windows is now down the pan due to Ramsey getting injured and therefore cannot be sold. Whilst I understand the worry (based on the summer's transfer business) that GFP are taking a 'sell to buy' policy, I really don't think off-loading Ramsay would be as integral to those plans as you think. Partly because a Miles Leaburn sale, Joe Gomez sell-on or Ademola Lookman solidarity fee would each be worth way more. Mostly because Kayne Ramsay wasn't exactly picked out of the blue. He was the top rated RB/RWB in League Two (part of the ongoing Team Of The Season) at the main ranking site whoscored.com when we signed him, so we definitely weren't the only people with an eye on him. The fact nobody outbid us for him then suggests a few good games in L1 won't exactly have the sharks circling frantically quite yet imho.

What would we get for Miles?. Depends how well he does between now and January (demonstrating recovery from injury). We turned down a rumoured £3m-ish from a club in Germany prior to said injury. You'd hope that when he gets his shooting boots back on he will be worth £5m+ (although obviously we need him to extend his contract asap).

Good points. I’m more embarrassed by free tickets to locals than a YouTuber or tube advert. We are finally seeing a proper marketing strategy that we haven’t had for many years A marketing strategy that has blended the visit of Wrexham, "Red, White & Black day", and a social media promotion approach to deliver our largest league (full paying) crowd in a decade. Plus articles and emails to the Charlton fanbase naturally. 8,500 ST holders plus 2,500 away fans makes 11,000 who would be there in any event. Which leaves 14,000 - treble the usual number of walk ups and complementary tickets. Time will tell whether our future gates meet our new average of 15,000, what and when the next promotion might entail, and can we deliver where it counts: on the pitch? Sandgaard came up with freebies via local retailers and ST holders to add bums on seats with very little impact to bottom line or long term attendance. Elsewhere some are whining about the cost and indignity of these half 'n' half scarves, or simply aiming rocks at Methven and the SMT for this initiative that's going to virtually sell out The Valley tomorrow. Obviously some believe they're attracting the "wrong kinda supporter", but what's interesting is that these same critics said it simply couldn't be done. If we can fill the ground when it's 50:50 whether we can compete for the play-offs, then just imagine where we'll be should the squad continue to improve?

It does feel a bit like the circus is coming to town…..I could understand it if it was Man City in the sixth round of the FA cup but Wrexham in a bread and butter league one fixture I can’t quite get my head around it all Fair play the ground will be 6/8 full today with all the day trippers and Hollywood fans but personally I would prefer our club ensure as a priority that we have a squad with a bit of quality in depth so we can cope with losing our best two players this season rather than promoting half and half football scarfs or installing five a side football pitches in the car park so the kids of the 10k die hards can have a kickabout before the game Imagine if we showed the same ambition as the likes of Birmingham and Wrexham with their teams heading upwards through the leagues and their grounds full to capacity every home game…wouldn’t that be a better strategy than some of the embarrassing stuff going on today with other clubs fans quite rightly taking the piss out of us over the half and half scarfs

In the same way that Netflix generated loads of new F1 fans the Welcome to Wrexham programme has generated disproportionate levels of interest in their football club. The positive of this is that the 23 other clubs in the division will benefit from a larger than average crowd this season. We are, probably, the biggest club in London in League One so this was always going to be a big event. Also, I, actually, think that the half and half scarves are a good idea. I don’t own a half and half scarf because I’m a Charlton fan but there are more and more ‘fans’ that don’t have a club but like going to games. It is a nice moment that neutrals can buy and is generates money for the club.

I think Birmingham and Wrexham have got their strategy’s spot on to as to how they fill their grounds to capacity every other weekend Hoping we might win a few defensive headers today and put in a good performance as we generally fail the audition when we have a big audience….. Interesting that Wrexham have brought in a couple of out of contract players this week as they have injuries and a few close to suspension….wonder if there is a decent CB out there available who can come in and do a short term job for us whilst we get our best player fit, it might win us a few points as the other alternatives we have could well lose us a few points

To be fair after bringing in Wickham and Lualua last season and then signing two more older players this season, that have hardly played, I think I’d be reluctant to invite Nathan Jones to commit any more wages to old mates of his, at this stage. The half and half scarves are probably going to generate half of what those players earn in a week. Why go to so much trouble to earn a few quid to just give it away to players that are not going to play?

Why go to so much trouble to earn a few quid to just give it away to players that are not going to play? I think signing Wickham last year was a big fitness punt which back fired……when we got him on the pitch I thought he was a useful enough but no club has taken a chance on him this season which tells its own story..….the less said about Lua Lua the better….. A fully fit Potts would have been an upgrade on Gillesphey playing in a three yet he seems to have disappeared into the CAFC Bermuda Triangle where Taylor has ended up for the majority of the last two seasons…..not sure if he is injured again or just not being considered, either way it’s looking another poor bit of recruitment…..and again the less said about the Hylton signing the better…. We needed that third quality CB to be signed in the summer, I was saying it all along, we exited two CB’s who Jones was playing week in week out and just brought in Mitchell so we are left with Gillesphey who is not mobile enough to play in a two as is Potts who hasn’t played a handful of games in 18 months…and REG for me is not a CB……so we are left with bits and pieces players…… Think it is all immaterial really as the budget looked blown ages ago so I can’t see anymore of Jones mates coming in anytime soon…..
