They've started selling Wrexham lager in the city of London. Gave it a try last night. Wasn't bad. I wonder if they sell Meantime Lager in North Wales? 😀

I would be embarrassed if I saw those scarves on a market stall let alone the club shop... Disgraceful...!!!!

And here’s me thinking the game is simply a bog standard League 1 fixture!
All the hype is so over the top, Lord knows what would happen if/when we actually play a top team.

Have to put in a similar performance to that shown against Birmingham and not the dog shit we saw the other night. Hopefully a big crowd will work in the lads favour. Won't be nice if we allow Wrexham to have time and if they get a goal or two ahead..

Half and half scarfs reminded me when me, the Mrs and my two lads went upto old Trafford for our league cup quarter final when approaching the stadium I needed a pee behind the bushes whilst I was doing this the Mrs brought a half and half scarf from one of the sellers I did my nut 🤣 the bloke wouldn’t take them back but gave half of my money back as he thought we couldn’t afford it.
As you were anyway…

Wrexham fans reckon their team is flying into Biggin Hill tomorrow afternoon. I'm hoping there will be a Beatlemania style crowd of Charlton fans with autograph books there to welcome them.

I also don't get people worried about Wrexham fans in the home end.
Wrexham are nowhere near selling out the away end, despite what some eejits on another forum might suggest.
Indeed they have the away tickets on general sale on their website with batches of up to six together instantly available right now.
Wrexham fans reckon they have sold about 2,500 of their 3,155 allocation which is what most were expecting from the outset.
Anyone who wants to support Wrexham can buy in their end. The 'tourists' in the home end will thus mostly be neutrals.
Incidentally, if over 22k tickets have been sold in total already (home and away) like Charlton announced today, it means the home areas are actually selling better than the away end (81.6% vs 79.2% of capacity) so f**k Wrexham's so called huge fanbase! x

Is this the pre match thread?
Very good interview with Terry Taylor on the website. Very likeable and all credit to him given his lack of opportunities since signing. Hope he stays in the side and shows what a good player he is.

Hope he stays in the side and shows what a good player he is. Signs are promising particularly after the Stockport game....we clearly need better set piece delivery whilst I just don't see Anderson as a regular starter if we're targeting promotion. However really reflects poorly on Jones that he was completely frozen out previously....adds to a worrying general sense that he makes it up as he goes along in his rather manic way.

It's clear that lots of people are turning up to watch them. I agree with you that they are more neutrals than Wrexham supporters though. I've not watched the Netflix series myself but I know many who have and would likely be inclined to watch a local Wrexham game if there was one near them. It's understandable as you can get attached to any series. It's why F1's fanbase has massively increased since Drive to Survive started. You never know, if we play well and win we might convert a few neutrals to return again! I'm hoping it's a great atmosphere on the day. =

This is pretty awesome to be honest. Commercial success. Hopefully we can get football success on the pitch as well!

Quite a few tickets now being sold in A block in the AC Stand, would assume they are mostly Wrexham I'm guessing you haven't read the previous posts. Wrexham haven't even sold out their end yet. If you were a Wrexham fan (not a neutral), why would you buy in the home stand if the away was available?

If you were a Wrexham fan (not a neutral), why would you buy in the home stand if the away was available? Wrexham have the fifth highest away gates in League One. When chances are created and the goals fly in, we will see just how many are neutral and how many support each club. They've just announced opening A & B blocks in the Alan Curbishley stand so this now looks like 25,000 plus tomorrow.

Well, that's one less thing for Charlton fans to moan about online (after the half and half scarves and YouTuber etc).
It was pretty obvious they were holding back blocks A & B of the Curbs Stand to potentially give to away fans if Wrexham sold out the Jimmy Seed (that part of the AC/East Stand has been given to away fans a few times in the past).
You can imagine the complaints if that had happened, but thanks to loads of tickets remaining in the Jimmy Seed it obviously wasn't necessary.
People who are surprised that Wrexham haven't sold out the away end obviously haven't glanced at the Wrexham forum (Red Passion) in the run up to the game. The moment tickets went on sale the general consensus was they'd sell about 2,500 of the (3,155) allocation, which looks pretty much spot on.
Wrexham fans are obviously aware of how well they travel and, whilst impressive, it's not the huge rampaging army a lot of Charlton fans seem to be expecting.
Those who think a lot of Wrexham 'tourists' will be in the home areas also clearly don't understand the appeal of the 'Welcome To Wrexham' TV show.
People aren't tuning in to fawn over Elliot Lee's passing or Phil Parkinson's substitutions (or even, to the extent people expect, glimpses of Deadpool and his moon-faced mate).
The show is as much about the town and community of Wrexham as it is the football team. American tourists snap up home game tickets because they have a whole checklist of places in Wrexham to visit - the Turf pub, the burger van, etc - and 'locals off the telly' to spot.
An away game in London doesn't have anywhere near the cachet of a home game for those TV tourists, so I reiterate - this isn't huge groups of Wrexham fans in the home end (if they cared that much there are still 700-odd tickets in the away end on general sale). It's neutrals, YouTubers, lapsed Charlton and local fans of other teams in the main.

Over 4,000 of the crowd will be first-time visitors from the South East London and Kent area, together with 1,000 visitors from foreign countries. Charlton CEO Charlie Methven said: "We are delighted with the attendance and looking forward to seeing what a packed-out Valley delivers in terms of atmosphere. The intention of our 'Welcome to London' campaign was precisely to encourage new local audiences to come and sample what Charlton has to offer, so it's gratifying for our marketing team to see so many local first-time attendees. It's important to note, though, that the sheer number of 'first-timers' will bring with it a few operational challenges. We would encourage all fans to arrive as early as possible."

Well done for the club for getting this gate for ONE match where the opposition Wrexham is the attraction not sadly us.
The true owners (the Americans) need to make Charlton as the main ‘draw’ regarding gates once again the only way they can achieve this is to win games which means spending a lot of dosh on players which includes two tall centre backs !

I suspect one reason Methven and co are putting so much effort into driving the attendance for this game is that it's a 'proof of concept' (being already our most attractive fixture for neutrals) for their attempts to raise attendances in general.
Just had a little wander round the internet and discovered a company called Champions Travel. They officially partner up with clubs to offer match ticket and hotel packages to overseas travellers (mostly from the USA and Ireland, but also Europe and the Far East).
Whilst they are partnered up with 12 PL clubs (including all the big names except Newcastle) and three Championship clubs, they only have one L1 club on their books: Charlton. Whilst they offer packages for all our home games, Wrexham is the only one that has ever sold out (whatever their maximum allocation from the club might be).

Considering we are on course for around a 24k crowd and Wrexham are unlikely to fill out their end, when they start singing "you're only here to see the mighty Wrexham" we can retaliate by singing "you're only here to see the mighty Goldbridge".
