I've had a bit of a rethink and decided that we'll find out alot more about who starts at Wigan next week when today's changes are made. If many come at half time then I would hazard a guess that NJ is still unsure on whe he favours in certain positions. Giving the likes of Edwards and Small 45 minutes each today means it's going to the wire. The same in other positions especially in midfield. If however changes don't get made until the 60th minute onwards then I would say whoever is still on the pitch at that point, is a certainty for the opening game of the season. Was about to post similar. Anderson rather than Berry surprised me, but I'm expecting Edwards and Small to share LWB duties this season. Starting with Edwards actually makes more sense now I think about it, giving NJ the opportunity to introduce Small's pace against tiring defenders later in the game. Football matches are about making the best use of 16 players not 11 these days, as they say. |

I do understand the doom mongering to a degree. However i also think in this modern era, your manager is not going to play what appears to be the team you are going to play in your first league game in yiur final pre season game. Its about keeping the opposition guessing. No issue with that. This wont be the starting team next week. Berry will play instead of Anderson. Did anyone read Edwards interview on Friday. He said he has played left wing aswell. I think Edwards will play for his versatility but not at the expense of Thierry Small. I think we need to trust Nathan Jones. We will be hard to beat. I think its clear once Fraser goes he will buy another midfielder. Im not sure cash is thin on the ground. We have spent a fortune on the pitch, backroom staff and training field. Very good point that first one. |

Still early doors but out of possession we are looking very hard to beat. Still too many long balls in possession though.

We look good when we keep it on the deck…..We go long too often and concede possession…..look after the ball…
Ramsay very impressive so far……..Campbell playing up top doing well….plenty of good pressing and tackling in the middle of the park…..Plenty of positives so far….
Jones handling Yengi well

We look neat and tidy, but I can't stop thinking that with a decent attacking midfielder, we could be so much better. Anderson hasn't done anything wrong, but if only he could dribble the ball forward. I might just be thinking this because we've talked about it so much over the summer that it's ingrained in my brain.

Ramsay has Murphy tucked up in his back pocket…he is going to be a key player for us…..Murphy has now retired hurt……
Adhadme working bloody hard up top……
I like the way we are passing it on the deck into feet rather than the long diagonals…..

We’ve settled into this game well. We’re looking like a strong cohesive unit, everyone seems to know their role and is putting in a very competent performance. I wouldn’t want to single out any particular player, an all round good team performance for me. Some quality on the bench as well waiting to come on and add their contribution. I’m full of my usual pre-season optimism but this time I have more confidence in our play.

Good first half 100% better than last week!
The closing down has been good and to be honest we have looked fairly solid in defence. Do like what Ramsey has given us in pre-season.
If I was Jones I'd sit Ahadme down after the game and show him the video of Yenghi, that's how to hold a ball up!
Good 45 minutes, can we keep it up?

Conor Coventry with some really effective play picking neat passes. Don’t see it every game but when it comes off it’s a chance on goal.
