To be fair to them their ownership group did say they had around £20m to play with in terms of transfer spend. So imagine they are trying to build their championship team now whilst they only have to adhere to the Salary Cap instead of tighter FFP rules in the championship. They can spend as much as they like, but there’s no guarantee’s in football. If they fail to go up they might be in a spot of bother. Yeah I understand their plan to build the squad this year, but it feels quite top heavy. Like they are hearing of players which are highly rate becoming available and they are signing them but not really considering where they will play. If they have too many already in that area, etc. Much prefer our approach where we can listen to interviews from Jones and others throughout the last six months, await signings and then watch how it all fits together. We have many options for the front two, especially when Leaburn returns. And there's plenty of time to assess where the side needs to strengthen through training, coaching and the next 20 games. What I'm saying is that the work has to be done by the players and the management, and that we can wait until January for more players. Unless there's a specific EPL loan / free agent that really adds value, why would we sign more players now? As posted before, what we need is an uplift in performances leading to increased attendances, sponsorship, retail expenditure. That's what will provide more money to spend in January. Obviously some might not accept that approach, and believe that the owners should do the heavy lifting by injecting more cash, but if our club doesn't grow then how will the owners (and future investors) perceive our prospects?

Absolutely mad. They clearly have money but do they actually have a strategy? It feels very 'scatter gun' from the outside. Don't get why everybody (more on CL than here tbh) is in such a frenzy about Birmingham's spending.
They're hardly the first club to make use of the financial freedom (no FFP or transfer fee caps etc) that exists in League One.
Two summers ago Ipswich spent £8.5m in transfer fees (more than the other 23 L1 clubs put together) and they're now in the Premier League as a result.
If our supposed billionaire owners were serious about rising up the league they'd be doing exactly the same as Birmingham.
Instead they're trying to do it 'on the cheap' but fair play if it works (and we've almost certainly got a better manager than Brum).

Blimey if Edun went as well we would just be left with 5 midfielders in the squad Berry, Docherty, Coventry, Anderson and Campbell which seems a bit light to me….unless the Marcus Browne rumour has some legs…..

Instead they're trying to do it 'on the cheap' but fair play if it works (and we've almost certainly got a better manager than Brum). Ipswich benefitted from the different rulings on Salary caps for newly relegated teams just like Birmingham are now. They can spend 75% of their gross revenue on wage costs opposed to the 60% we are able to spend. Spending big money also entails paying big wages. Our Spending limits aren’t just because our owners don’t want to dip into their pockets, it’s more a result of our revenue being more reflective of a league one team. Ipswich turned over £21m when the season they got promoted to the championship. In comparison we turned over £10m in the same season, it seems like we are budgeting to turnover £13m this season so still a long way off of what Ipswich were hitting and I imagine a long way off what Birmingham will turnover this season.

All this noise about Collins to us (it's being discussed on Coventry forums etc) seems to have come from that photo of a random keeper at the training ground.
That said, I'd like us to get one of the Coventry keepers (Wilson or Collins).
Plus one of the Port Vale AMs (Chislett or Garrity) or maybe Palmer from Coventry (supposedly moving today, but with Championship interest).
Plus a left sided defender (Potts or Bradley?) if Edun is off.
Is that too greedy/too much to hope for?
Mostly, I just want somebody to buy Joe Gomez. Every bloody deadline day for several years now he's supposedly on the move then nothing ever happens. Given that it will net us somewhere between £5m and £10m, Gomez is the most important bit of potential deadline day action for Charlton. Someone buy him ffs!

Looked nothing like Collins in that picture anyway.
Don't believe we'll sign another keeper until December.
Hopeful of one in and two out before window closes

I still think we are OK apart from moving a couple on. Bring in one or two at the end of the year if needed.

This is all a very unlike Charlton deadline day without us scrambling around looking for a few last minute bargain freebies to pad out our squad……but will we hear those famous previous post deadline words….We worked really hard to get deals over the line but just couldn’t manage it…..Which equated back then to we weren’t prepared to pay the going rate terms wise…..🤣🤣 I can imagine Scott and co working overtime to try and get TT, Edun and Fraser’s wages off the books but no doubt we will bend over at the eleventh hour and have to pay the majority of Fraser’s loan wages…… Doubt we will see any new players coming in as all the work will be done getting players out of the door…….

Simon Sluga goal keeper being mentioned on twitter. Twitter is Hopeless. Just throwing cards up into the air and whoever lands face up we're signing them according to them. Sluga is far too slow anyway!

Haven't we had our fair shair of out of contract rubbish who only rock up for a final pay day without wanting to put a shift in? All probably waiting to see who will pay them the most……or waiting on clubs prepared to take a risk on them…….and then kiss the badge when they score…🤣
