Being realistic, going from finishing 16th to battling for promotion is always going to be a tough ask. The fact the league has got far stronger this season as well is another challenge on top of that. Without a Birmingham or Ipswich type budget, I'm not sure we will be able to guarantee we fight for promotion this season. I'm happy with the signings so far and feel we're a much stronger outfit than we were last year. Whether that is enough, only time will tell. We have a big squad at the moment. However, GK and Midfield feels a bit light for me. In terms of depth and/or quality. If we can sort that out then we have a chance to do well. We will need things to go our way though of course, as will any team fighting for promotion. Yep, agree with this, but unfortunately all the available midfield talent you speak about seems to be heading to our competitors… Jones in an SLP article today says he is not bothered about other clubs having bigger budgets than us, all he is concerned about is how ready we are come Saturday evening…….My take on it is that the best squads in terms of quality in depth will be competing for top 6 next April….Whether that be us I am not so sure….but we shall see…. Rumours McAtee has agreed terms with Bolton... The GK situation I'm more relaxed about...I like Mannion and think he has enough about him (and with a better defence) to justify the number 1 shirt...didn't want Begovic - the lad from Arsenal would have been a great signing on loan...the usual bleating about us not spending enough money or being down to our 7th choice etc on other forums is a little embarassing - yes it's frustrating, but we're competing for and attractive enough to players who end up going for over £1m to Celtic, or off to play against Real and Barca - and we're in L1! Anyone who says they'd rather play against Shrewsbury or Blackpool on a Tuesday night (no offence meant!) and compete in the Pizza Cup, instead of competing for trophies and playing in the Old Firm, or playing in La Liga is lying!

Anyone who says they'd rather play against Shrewsbury or Blackpool on a Tuesday night (no offence meant!) and compete in the Pizza Cup, instead of competing for trophies and playing in the Old Firm, or playing in La Liga is lying! To be fair Bolton are quite a few decent transfer windows ahead of us and we are on catch up so the likes of Aaron Collins and Mcatee going there is no surprise…..The only way we were going to catch up was by doing an Ipswich but we haven’t done that so it is a case for me of steady ongoing improvement rather than heavy investment to be promoted….. I thought they were the best team in the division last year but their form just dropped at the wrong time and they just didn’t turn up in the play off final….I think with the quality they have they will go up with Birmingham this year…. Yeah agree about the madness coming from other SM about the keeper situation…..We we’re very close to getting the Arsenal lad in and we’re gazzumped by a team playing in a far higher standard….not sure what the club could have done about that….but when you read some of these things it really highlights how very little some of our fans know about what is actually going on within our club……So I tend not to read certain sites…..😀

Raki Saki to join Sheff Utd.. 1m+ for a loan in the championship. Absolutely ludicrous numbers. Parachute payments strike again How is that ludicrous? £1 Million to get Rak-Sakyi for a season is a bargain. Rak-Saki could be the difference between a championship club going up or not…..1 million would be well worth the money spent…. We should really have beat Palace a few weeks back, they hardly had any threat at all until he came on and then one bit of magic which we have all seen before and then bang 1-1……

I would imagine NJ is hugely frustrated at present with us not being able to bring more in quality before we have to offload players…….So far we have only moved on Mcgrandles and Isted unless I am wrong You have wonder how long it is going to take for us to decide how much of Fraser’s wages we will pay once he heads north……How long Ness’s injury will take to recover before he can be shipped out….and who may or may not come in for Edun

I would be inclined to stick with Mannion, as hopefully the keeper this season will have a better defence in front of him. The problem with Mannion is not Mannion, himself, it is that if he gets injured we will be playing AMB and have a very young 'keeper on the bench.

So if the problem isn't Mannion, what are we actually looking for?. Is it someone to be no 2, over Amb?. Who would you get prepared to be a no 2 and be better than Amb?... Glad the problem isn't mine...🤣

No squad numbers for Ness or Fraser. No 1 shirt still up for grabs as well.

With Bromley in League Two now surely we should think about sending 1 or 2 players on loan to them as logistics wise it will suit everybody.

I think the benefit of loaning players to Bromley in the National League is that you can recall players from non-league clubs.if we loan players to League Two we can’t recall them until January.

On Football League world site they are saying about free agent Marko Marosi, who left Shrewsbury Town this summer after keeping 35 clean sheets during his three-season stay in Shropshire, including 11 last term, despite the Shrews finishing 19th in League One…

If he was to come in as our number 1 I’d be fuming.

I cannot see the official account following him yet. Reams you heard anything is close with Dixon or anyone else?

Rich Cawley saying we was in for Lukas Jensen before he went to Millwall. Would have been a good signing.

Yes indeed. I have liked the names we have been linked with but until we land one of them it means nothing.

McAtee signs for Bolton permanent. Good signing that! Bolton will go up with Brum this year….they have invested really well over the last few windows and they really should have gone up last year… Another good signing for them, the best sides in terms of quality will be challenging and they are proving how ambitious they are as a club

Has there been any update on Kahiem Dixon ? I posted the link to the FA work permit rulebook and explained the situation re Dixon when we initially signed him a couple of weeks ago. For anyone who missed it, Dixon doesn't qualify for a work permit (based on the various complicated tables in the rulebook he scores 2 points and you need a minimum of 15 for an automatic work permit). That means when it's turned down, we have to use one of our two ESC (exemption) slots to apply for a GBE (governing body exemption). This means we submit loads of documents about him, international (Copa America etc) appearance data, testimonials from coaches in Jamaica about his talent, etc. The FA then convene an independent panel to consider the application. The panel meets to discuss and sends its conclusion (yay or nay) to the FA, who then decide whether to go by the panel's recommendation or not. The rulebook states that playing more than five games for the senior side of a non FIFA Top 50 nation (Jamaica are #59) in the past year should in itself be enough for an ESC. Dixon has played eight games for Jamaica since March so he 99.99% will get an ESC exemption, but as you can imagine the above process takes a while. I said it was unlikely to be resolved before the start of the season. TL;DR Dixon won't get a work permit, but will get an ESC/GBE exemption instead. There's nothing Charlton can do to speed this process up, so it happens when it happens. A week or two from now is my guess, although it might be quicker (will partly depend upon how many other ESC/GBE applications the FA are currently working through).

Now Tyreece has bulked out and showing development signs, a front 3 of TC - Ahadme - Dixon could be very exciting if we’re chasing a goal and deviate away from 352. Within a 3-5-2 I'm wondering whether TC and Dixon up front (one drifting wide as and when) with Godden playing as a 10 (deep lying striker version) might be a real nightmare for opposition defenders.
