To extend on this, when Aneke breaks down during a season outside of a transfer window. We end up short of options because he is part of the striker group.. as we saw last season causing us to sign free agent wickham. My post has quickly been dismissed by a few saying it makes no sense but it makes complete sense when you want a squad of available strikers through a long season… Aneke is not one of those Your suggestion makes literally no sense financially or by any logical metric. Say you have ten board games and you want to buy another one (which you can afford and have space to store). Do you (a) go down the shop and buy that other game; or (b) pick out one of your existing games that you don't play very often, throw it on the fire THEN go down the shop to buy that other game. Your Aneke suggestion is literally (b) and it makes no sense to anyone else on here because of how ridiculous it is. Even if you're only going to play that other game/Aneke once in a blue moon (on Boxing Day, say) where's the logic in just setting fire to it/binning it? That's before we even get into how popular Aneke is. In his recent YouTube interview, Thierry Small (who we're all hoping will sign an extended contract with Charlton) was asked who his best friend in the squad is, instantly replying: "Big Chuks man. He gives me great advice. I call him my uncle, he calls me his nephew." Getting shot of Aneke becomes even more idiotic when you realise it may damage our chances of hanging onto Small. Give your head a wobble mate. As I said before this is my opinion on it. Clearly you can’t accept someone else’s opinion and prefer to be condescending. Nice bunch of blokes on here

I think termination of Aneke would save him £12k in tax, and if agreed with HMRC it was injury related, about £35k/£40k in NIC payments for us.
Having said that I'd keep him regardless.

Can we please refrain from shutting other posters opinions down on here please.
State your case by all means but I'd appreciate less of the personals just because somebody has an opinion that differs from your own.

With Ipswich signing Muric, does that open up the possibility of Walton leaving for us?
Think we have had a very strong window so far. Only 3 or 4 crucial positions left, we have built the core of the squad and if we have to wait to sign players of higher quality I am all for it. We should be targeting key players of teams in our division to weaken them or fringe championship players. Obviously they will take longer to come off. I think singing players like Davis Kiellor Dunn who was fantastic last season is a risk for someone that has never performed well above league 2 level as the step up is big.

Yes just left Bordeaux but I think. He'll end up at Rangers. There was an ex-Mk Dons lad who went out to France too, Rhys Healey. Scored plenty at Toulouse early doors two seasons ago when they got promoted to Lique 1 but then got a bad injury and missed most of last season. Healey signed for Watford a couple of weeks ago.

The transfer window still has 6 weeks left! We all know that most of the PL loans and many EFL perm deals are done on the last week of the TW. There are a thousand reasons for that mad situation but I will bet that a good percentage of the players we want in and out will be completed in the 2nd half of august! Its not perfect, it probably doesn't suit NJ, but that's how it is! So I think, dare i say this, we will all have to be a bit patient and hope NJ's negotiating skills pays off! For now, go on holiday, read a book, catch some rays, have a swim, go fishing, have a picnic, whatever, and just .... chill!!

Tbf, we're usually at our busiest from now (having done very little before) until the end of the window. So you can see why people are keen to see activity! Realistically we only need 3-4 quality signings and however many outgoings to have a very strong squad. I do feel like we are a few weeks away from any real moves happen. The last few jigsay pieces will be tough to ge the right pieces for I imagine.

All of the groundwork has been done. Players have arrived while there are others that we have made/preparing offers for.
I'm not aware that EPL clubs have confirmed their squads yet and as we all know their is a hive of activity in the loan marker once they do.
I'm told the show isn't over and there is still business to be done even if that takes us right up to the eve of the window where a loan or two are concerned.
Personally I feel this is where the keeper might come from.
There has been a bit of interested in Isted but nothing definite happening there yet.

Some of the better keepers in league one have come from Prem loans, Gavin Bazunu at Pompey from Man City (now at Soton) and Beadle of course at Oxford from Brighton spring to mind. These keepers will be excellent with their feet so good for our style and I'm sure there will be a number of Prem clubs looking for loans for their young keepers
Couple of prem loans can be transformative for a teams season

Can't see any mention of us. All there is that I've found is Peter O'Rourke tweeting that Championship and top League One Clubs are in for Paudie O'Connor from Lincoln.

This was posted after the PoR article - I'd go out on a limb and say they've read 'top League One clubs' and decided to label us and Rotherham on the tweet without any idea whether we're actually interested or not.

Just seen the team for the Palarse game (first half).
Bishop back in. (I assume after having his tooth re-implanted!) And Aneke starts. So clearly NOT injured against Millwall.

Charlton Athletic midfielder Scott Fraser is wanted on loan by Dundee, according to the Daily Record (live transfer blog, 18.07.24, 19:03).
Charlton Athletic have a decision to make regarding the immediate future of the Scotsman this summer. He still has a year left on his contract at The Valley running until June 2025.

If the rumour has legs…….O’Connor and Mitchell were part of one of the best defensive units in league one last season…..You wonder if Mitchell might have put a word in somewhere……

What’s the story with Hylton? I can’t see what he offers for us personally. Got to be better free agents out there than him if that’s the route we are going.

Think he's being looked at as a coach for the strikers which can only be a good thing. Keeping himself fit helps as if he ever needs to step in he can do.
