Very true Dick , but most fans are only interested in success on the pitch . Probably because the vast majority of fans are totally unaware of what goes on behind the scenes. Their brains don't stretch that far. They seem to have their mindsets on auto pilot. Slag off the club until further notice. Spotty faced teenage Gobshites.

Just thought I would mention that Will Abbott has been another great signing by the club……I think we shall see the fittest Charlton team first game back on August 10th in many a year…….Will be like a 12th man if he can keep the likes of Leaburn, Jones and Aneke fit……. Such a contrast to 12 months ago when the squad came back clearly not fit enough and was outrun by poorer teams than us on occasions….. Something that isn't noticed by everyone is the investment to Matters off the pitch. The owners have invested in the pitch, Club Shop, car park and also recruiting good people in such areas as Sports Science. This shouldn't be underestimated. The cost is quite considerable. Yeah yeah but if Andy Scott had anything to do with it, did it really happen?? Isn't Methven just after turning a quick buck? Bet it's just jobs for their mates in the car park!!! When are they selling salmon trousers in the club shop? Why hasn't Jones been backed by the board with every player for every position in the first 5mins of the transfer window? He PROMISED he'd have the full squad, cure cancer, fix global warming AND fix the potholes in the car park himself; the board aren't backing him on any of this because they've obviously got no money!!! Blah blah blah... Where's my pitch fork and flaming torch?

Amazing how many people do a u-turn when they realise that maybe they should have held fire with their criticism in the first place. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Slag off the club until further notice. Spotty faced teenage Gobshites. The problem is that a lot of them are my age and hanker for the old days when you had one sub and just ran harder than the other team. A lot of the younger supporters understand how a successful team operates. I stopped posting on here as one particular member, now banned, was getting overly personal, and that was doing my head in. Still not buying a season ticket, but looking forward to this season and really that the club is in good hands.

Got a feeling in my water that NJ wants another defender but at the expense of one already at the club.
I'm not sure if he fancies Edmunds-Green but that's purely speculation on my part given he sat out today's game with two players who are almost certain to leave.

Yep, he wasn’t playing REG at the end of the season when Thomas and Hector were gifting goals away so I said at the time if I was REG I think I would be worried…🤔🤔…Apparently both he and Fraser had thigh strain injuries today……🤔🤔……I was thinking Ness would be the one to go but he would be cheaper to stay as back up with Gillesphey……..

Let's hope the rest of the window is as good as the first part, things are almost getting better by the day. Two or three more in and four or five out would just about be a perfect window. On top of that the two friendlies we've had have gone about as good as they could.

I agree with all of this and it is quite right to be pleased with what is going on off the field and the owners deserve credit with the improvements already made, however, the most important thing is improvement on the pitch and what people will remember most is a good match day experience.

Jones confirmed he sustained a thigh injury in training so left him out. He was a fixture for jones until he got injured toward the end of the season.

What people do notice is when we go more than two or three games without a win. Last season was extraordinary in terms of shifting from relegation form to upper mid-table and back again... then finish well. But many wanted to focus only on player acquisition and the failings of Holden, then Appleton. Which in turn leads to nostalgia and how EVERY owner / SMT since the days of Murray, Varney and Curbs has been shockingly bad. We will know soon enough whether the combination of new Manager, new players and new approach to sports science transforms us from mid-table to top six contenders. The interesting part comes next, but that's more of a January 2025 window discussion.

I am no sports scientist, but NJ seems to know the benefits of training in higher altitude conditions.I E. on the Slovenian Alps. When you come down to earth, you hit the ground running.Lets hope so No benefit from a week at altitude, need a month at least. Seems the resort has other advantages though.

Ted Bishop? No he f***ing isn't. (I feel I can swear as Nathan Jones did throughout today's first half before they moved the camera/mic/NJ for the second half to save the children's ears.) Who told you he was injury prone and why did you instantly believe them? Rather than (as I just have) spend literally 60 seconds checking the stats online? Last season Bishop played 38 games (33 in the league). The season before he played 31 games (24 in the league). The season before that 42 games (36 in the league). The season before that one 38 games (36 in the league). Then I just gave up counting. Lincoln fans and Ipswich fans might call that injury prone. I call him (by Charlton standards) bloody Iron Man!

As poor Bishop had a tooth knocked out in the "friendly" today, I think it would be very unsympathetic of the club, not to give him a contract!

Injury prone or not he just feels like a lazy signing. Doesn't offer anything we don't already have. Squad fillers just for the sake of it isn't what's needed. Would we have signed him if he would have cost a fee? I very much doubt it.

We can only sign cheaper players now as budget gone on previous seven?. Huh? Bishop won't come cheap. Lincoln finished nine places above us (on the edge of the playoffs). They also had the second best defensive record in the division (40 goals against - one more than Derby and 25 less than Charlton). Lincoln offered him a new contract with a substantial pay rise. He opted not to sign it and is now (it seems) joining us, which suggests we are offering him more. Whilst he's obviously a midfielder rather than a defender, given that conceding goals (even with the sainted George Dobson in our ranks) was what did for us last season, why do you think signing a key midfielder from a side that defended way better than us in 2023-24 is a bad thing? Please don't be like them eejits on CL who only want us to sign players who score goals - some are genuinely crying that our new strikers haven't scored in two pre-season half-games! Plus we're building a squad rather than just a first 11 and I'd suggest Bishop is an upgrade over say (loaned out) Henry or (turfed out) McGrandles in that respect, surely? Don't you agree?

Also Bishop apparently had a tooth headbutted out of his head today by a Turkish player, so you can't say he's not a 'combatant' which is one of the things NJ seemingly likes to see.
I still expect us to sign a more attacking midfielder too (I feel the lack of goals is the main reason people are so cool on Bishop) but I think that person will likely be on the youthful winger side of things (eg Dixon from Jamaica, who we've been linked with, or a PL loanee).
