Surely one of our keepers (or two) will go. We seem stocked at RB/RWB with Ramsay, Asiimwe, Tennai and REG who can play there. Could we let Tennai go? LB/LWB you'd have to assume Edun is surplus. CB - Surely Zach Mitchell and/or Ness will be loaned out. Ness might be perm. CM is difficult. We're not hugely stocked there imo. But surely Fraser goes. Loan most likely due to wages. I think that would be about it. Some mention Terry Taylor but I think he'll play a bigger part for us this season. Not a bad shout. For me personally, Asimwe and Anderson and Kanu could all do with a loan move, although I appreciate the wages of the younger players won't help much in offsetting the wages. Tenai Watson would be my backup to Ramsey. I think NJ might keep hold of Edun as he seems to be looking at him playing a midfield role and Edwards can be backup on the left of a three which would presumably see Ness go (maybe perm).

Did Ness even travel with the squad? The squad is too big currently. Players to go on perms or loans have got to be Fraser, Edun, Ness, Asiimwe, Kanu, AMB, Istead

Surely one of our keepers (or two) will go. We seem stocked at RB/RWB with Ramsay, Asiimwe, Tennai and REG who can play there as well. Could we let Tennai go? Asiimwe I think suits our style more this season as one strength he has is crossing which was pointless with May upfront. We have seen nothing of Taylor much. Doubt he will be going anywhere. Edun is capable in midfield or as a left footed LWB if injury free. All current players are being looked at. Watson is certainly capable at RWB. REG played on the Left Centre Back position at Dartford. Campbell as a number 9 or 10. I am amazed how many here cast players off that when they arrived they were in ecstasy over. Then they wonder why players get pissed off. Macgrandles never had a fair chance . Nor Taylor yet. Fraser was scoring 8 and assisted in has many 2 seasons ago. He has had injuries too. You will be surprised by some. Meanwhile, do we need old players like Bradley? I do wonder on that.

Good shout Grapevine49 but I think the arrival of Greg Docherty means we have completed our recruitment drive in central midfield now.

Will be interesting to see what Jones preferred midfield is. Seems like we’ve got a wealth of options now. Will he push Berry into the 10, or will we try and get one in before the end of the window?

Luton fan forum suggesting Alan Campbell might be on his way to us

There’s a reason Campbell only played 12 times for us….. …..he wasn’t that good. Admittedly he wasn’t fit when he joined us, but when he was, he wasn’t any better than the midfield players we already had. He might make more of an impact in league 1, but if I were a Charlton fan I’d think we could do so much better.

Good of the Millwall fan reminding us to tread carefully with Campbell.A couple of years can make a lot of difference Ask Joe Biden
And a nice touch to base, by Geronomy who, and i quote -I am amazed at how many here, cast players off, that when they arrived, they were in ecstasy over. Then wonder why players get pissed off. I agree. And believe that, that forward we had on loan, with the Slavic name.Tedic i believe it was? rarely got a game.So why bother bringing them in? I believe he scored one goal. But was he that bad? And others that we had on loan, too

We don't need another midfielder with no goal threat in them.

Luton fan forum suggesting Alan Campbell might be on his way to us I hope not. Just another Forini. I think the link may have been because NJ brought him from Motherwell to Luton so maybe fans are putting two and two together…..have no idea on the capabilities of Campbell, Luton fans seem to like his all action displays but MF would have seen him in and wasn’t impressed hence he only got 12 games in a season long loan at Millwall…..Personally I think we need better…..and also better than Bishop….. Potts also linked maybe because of the same NJ connection but I think maybe Bradley is NJ’s main target……Apparently we have set our sights on the keeper we want so will be interesting to see how that pans out……….

Reams,
Any rumours or info about Etete, or even if we are looking at Dervante Cole please ?

I think a couple of quality loans and that’s our lot. I don’t think we need anyone else now, maybe the squad needs a bit of cutting edge? But it’s looking good to me.

Agree not a priority but given the recent injury record, hopefully to improve with Dr Will, another would be useful. Particularly if Kanu is to go on loan.
GK, AM and possibly another CB first though.

I think a couple of quality loans and that’s our lot. I don’t think we need anyone else now, maybe the squad needs a bit of cutting edge? But it’s looking good to me. A couple of injuries Tom, which are going to happen, and we are back to playing squad players who IMO are not good enough to be involved in a promotion chasing side…..The best squads with the most depth in quality will be those challenging in April, we need to offload and then bring in more quality….We have released two players in the summer who NJ deemed to be first choice CB’s ahead of REG and at times Gillesphey and just brought in Mitchell so we are not strong enough yet in that area, a proper hard nosed experienced CB coming in would do it for me……. In the middle of the park I can’t see Edun being still with us by Aug 10 so that just leaves us with Taylor and Anderson as back up….. Up top we just have Kanu as back up as we are still unsure on Anekes fitness availability on Aug 10…… So NJ has stated in Slovenia yesterday that there is more to come in……interestingly he said not in the next couple of days which to me means he is waiting on answers from players who are maybe seeing if they have futures in their current championship clubs before dropping down to league one……..🤔🤔 Loans wise NJ has said previously that he is reluctant to coach other clubs players so any loan coming in would be the quality to be an automatic starter who adds big value to the team Just my opinion…..

He still might be a loan option but after the season has started and once we know what's happening with Leaburn (fitness/move), Aneke (fitness) and Kanu (loan). Many will see Kanu as the standby striker should the aforementioned not be available but I'm not one of them. He needs a loan and I would much prefer a ready made striker to fill the void.

I’m personally ok with Kanu as our back up. He’ll improve each year and will benefit from an improved team around him

We only have three fit strikers. One, Kanu is only 19. With two up top we need at least four. Personally I think Hylton is a good choice if he can get fit, but Dixon on loan would give us maximum options.

Just thought I would mention that Will Abbott has been another great signing by the club……I think we shall see the fittest Charlton team first game back on August 10th in many a year…….Will be like a 12th man if he can keep the likes of Leaburn, Jones and Aneke fit…….
Such a contrast to 12 months ago when the squad came back clearly not fit enough and was outrun by poorer teams than us on occasions…..

Absolutely, the state of the squad this time last year was a disgrace, possibly the worst I can remember and that goes back to the 1950s.

Something that isn't noticed by everyone is the investment to Matters off the pitch. The owners have invested in the pitch, Club Shop, car park and also recruiting good people in such areas as Sports Science. This shouldn't be underestimated. The cost is quite considerable.

Completely agree @dickplumb The off field developments are highly significant and consistent with the view that the investors have a long term vision and want to ensure the club is managed highly professionally. As you say, the investments in the technical department and in sports science et al won’t have come cheap and are designed to have a long term payoff. Investors without the cash to run the club long term and/or who want/need immediate success would almost certainly have diverted funds into the playing squad in a ‘gamble’ on short term success. We might need to be patient but I still believe it’s likely we’ve got the ‘best’ owners in the club’s history.
