You know it’s not a great appointment when the best compliment someone can give him is that he played Brennan Johnson.

cant say I'm not surprised, completely underwhelmed , SMT had the chance to impress the fans with a 'name' but chose this option , lack of ambition if you ask me.

Welcome!
Roll on Stevenage away and whoever we might have at home after that. Definitely an upgrade on Holden in terms of experience. Look forwards to his presser next Thursday followed by the teamsheet on the Saturday and the actual game.
Along with all the other variables such as players returning from injury, new signings and fragility of our defence, it's impossible to predict how we go in his first five games. So let's wait and see.
Having said that, the results are likely to be an improvement on the season so far. And there is a half decent squad and we need seven points every four games to have a crack at sixth place. Wonder if he can hit the ground running?
Let's see where we are when the January window arrives.

Don’t know much about the geezer but I can’t do the whole pessimistic thing straight from the off. Good luck to the fella and I hope it’s the perfect fit. That’s all it is in league one, right manager at the right time and you’re off and running.

Brennan Johnson, who recently completed a deadline-day move to Tottenham Hotspur for a reported £47.5m fee, enjoyed his breakthrough campaign under Appleton’s tutelage, scoring 10 goals and registering 12 assists. Thats more down to the players talent than Appleton

He was a loan at Lincoln. Nottingham Forest and their coaching team built the lad up to what he is. Not one season playing under Appleton. How do you expect anyone to take anything you say seriously? When clearly there is no thought behind anything you post or write.

I suppose I'm a bit weird...
I'm always a bit excited by new signings, whether they be players, or new coaching staff.
What I would say, is with the likes of Leaburn, Assimwe, Anderson and T. Campbell breaking into the first team, (and a plethora of young centre backs at the club) a manager who has previous experience of developing young talent, is probably the right one, at the right time...

Not surprised with the appointment, it was always in my opinion who could develop the younger players, which is what he is known for, gets my full support.

I posted the fall piece of the article where BBs paragraph came from. Give it a read, it highlights some positives about Appleton.

And just to clarify. I'm not disputing that Appleton might be a good coach.
But he's got the managers job. And he doesn't know how to win football matches these days.

I was underwhelmed by the seeming choice being circulated by the Bookies/rumours.
I wish Michael Appleton well, because if he succeeds then so does Charlton, but I can't get over the nagging feeling that all we have done is appointed a younger version of Adkins.

I'd have appointed him (if at all) to the end of the season only, because we want to see how he gets on.
The goals this season now appear to be simply: - Staying up - Improving the young players so they'll be better players next season.
Improving them so they don't make individual mistakes, but the team also needs to get the system they are playing and know how to track back so we stop leaking goals on the break, which seems to be a major problem this season.

Take no notice. For every success there’s a mountain of failure. The players need a natural talent to begin with but no coach can coach talent into the untalented.
