We’re not an attractive club at the moment. 17 managers in as many years.
We need stability. I don’t mind going for a lower league manager who has performed well and is currently in a job. We need to build with someone.

All these people saying Cheap And Cheerful. These people are in jobs, so be more expensive than those out of a job. Dave Challinot almoat succeeded in back to back promotions from national league to league 1. He is young. Alternatively we can go for manager who are out of wprk and boring like The Cowleys….people were never prepared to give these new owners a chance from the off and nevr will because of tge previous bad owners. Its not just about playing staff. Tye whole club even down to ticket office needs rebuilding. Who hear could donit in 7 weeks? I couldn’t.

The Challinor link is interesting. He has a very good record at multiple clubs, albeit at a lower level. I live not far from Stockport and he is well liked by the fans. Signed a new 3 year contract recently though, so won't be the cheap option.

January 2024 will be different for a number of reasons: - whoever they appoint will have had four months and 20 games to establish their system, their matchday 18 and resolve glaring deficiencies - they, Scott and the fans will all have a view on three or four of the 18 that need upgrading plus one hopes there will be major successes too! - perhaps we're in FA Cup 3rd round?! - perhaps we close the gap on sixth place. If we don't then a few thousand fans will give up for the season And yes "must do better" is fair! Our commercial revenues are 40% of comparable clubs in League One and the Championship so announcements there will help. What we need most of all is a clear football narrative to emerge from this chaos. For in January 2024 there's no more room for excuses! Agreed but Didn't Holden have 20 games to establish his system and his matchday 18? With the squad we're going to have I wouldn't be surprised if they sack the new manager in January and appoint a new one in February. I am getting very disillusioned and concerned with the prospects for Charlton at the moment. We seem to be no better off than under Sandgaard and with the multiple owners it is going to be, even, harder to get a new one in. It is beginning to look like we will be stuck in this division for ever. He did, and the early results were very promising after changing around five of Garner's starting XI. But then he decided to embark on 3-5-2 this season with no wingbacks. Essentially getting into a power struggle with Scott that he was never going to win! Plus Leaburn, Fraser and Campbell injured so that didn't help. The path in September is no different whether we conceded that goal versus Oxford or not! We still need to beat Fleetwood, see how the team gels - just that Pearce will probably play a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1... something like the second half vs Oxford. Is it better that we found out Holden wasn’t the right fit early on? That isn't spin nor boosterism (as Mundell might term it). More that I'm impatient to watch September games so that we can all see whether there's a decent side. I don't rate Taylor and unsure about Camara, but overall the recruitment hasn't been as disastrous as some say. The target is 77 points and sixth place so the SMT need to establish budgets and activities to make that happen. To paraphrase Lady Caversham "to lose one manager is unfortunate but losing two would be sheer carelessness" 😉

The NTT20 podcast labelled him an outstanding prospect so I would be obliged to go with their opinion.

The same could be said about Camara, a long lay off last season and now a much less serious injury who will need a few matches to get back to anywhere near match fitness.

To paraphrase Lady Caversham "to lose one manager is unfortunate but losing two would be sheer carelessness" 😉 I don’t believe our target is play-offs anymore. We’re bang average in every way you can imagine. So light in various positions throughout the squad. Other than CB where we are still looking to recruit as they aren’t good enough! We’ve been unable to offload the deadwood. We’ve not had the required investment, despite rumours of it being there. What good is a budget if you don’t spend it. Or have you spent it on a manager instead? None of our options of a new manager fill me with any encouragement/hope. As a first month in charge, this is surely the worst ever. I’m not sure SE7 will see it that way, but our fans clearly do and we’re the ones who invest our money in the club. I can’t see anyone being inspired to buy ST’s this year now. Which means we will have the same lack of investment and spending power going forwards. I’m still hoping SE7 aren’t at bad as this month has shown. But that very dim light is at the end of an ever growing tunnel.

That tunnel may get longer and darker as I understand there is a break clause next year in the lease of The Valley (and training ground).

Believe me, the Cowleys will be the type of manager who will look at the XG. Jobsworths! I won’t go again this season if is them. This isn’t a dig, but a genuine question. Why are they jobsworths? I’ve seen people question them tactically, but it’s always been said that they are decent, likeable people. Decent, likeable people you can find down the pub. Decent, likeable people do not mean footballing success.

Please not the Cowleys! It's deja vu, like the return of the Dowies!
That appointment won't make me buy any more tickets to the Valley.

There’s a big advantage in having Challinor as a manager… in his Tranmere playing days, he was known as being really good with long throw ins… From reliable sources, Ive been told that Alfie May is salivating at the thought
