People won’t like me saying it whatsoever but if we’d have had this same transfer window and start to the season under previous owners then they’d have been absolutely torn apart.

From what I’ve seen, they have been torn apart by many fans even before they’d taken charge. Others have taken the fact they took charge late in the window to account. Whatever your views are. No one is singing their praises at the moment due to the dreadful start. They have got it all to prove. Too early to say on the signings. Lack of fitness everywhere isn’t helping. Our trouble is that if we don’t improve quickly then our fans will become even more toxic (let’s face it we’ve become toxic over the shambles of ownership st. we’ve been through in the last 5-10 years). We could then be our our worst enemy. So I really hope we turn it around quickly and can be an asset.

There are around 5 or six we haven't seen play yet. Talk about writiing players of before they have kicked a ball!! I agree, it's not been great but this is the base we are going to be building on that's all.

Which players coming in do you think aren't up to standard? I think there's a danger of going round and round in circles on all threads as critics seek to address the following: - our defence - fitness levels - not ambitious enough as not targeting automatic promotion - Charlie Methven eating fans' hamsters - too many loans who leave - not enough quality loans - and so on End of the day this is a thread about our new manager who will ideally be announced soon enough. This followed by a whole load of games that will tell us far more about the squad, tactics etc.

Maybe I’m just feeling down about all things Charlton at the moment but I personally think that this season will be a massive struggle.
Expect mire when you’re paying out large sums of money to follow the club all over the country.
Our defence is worse than that of my Sunday team.
CBT has been our only creative outlet.
We’d have lost every game in my view if it wasn’t for the performances of George Dobson who’s been phenomenal.
We’re not going to win many games if we concede at least two goals every single game.

I get that... and was at Crawley the other night as well as all home games. Agree with you about CBT and Dobson. Would add Campbell x 2, May, Leaburn and Anderson to that list. Debatable as to whether our front six better than last season - time will tell. Edun and Asiimwe are both OK but nobody is convinced by either keeper nor any centre back pairing - needs sorting ASAP else we keep shipping two goals per game. Our set piece attacking and defending is the worst in the League! Until that's resolved, we will never be top six.

I think with probably 3 out our 4 best players returning to the team and a new manager to come in and organise the back four( as they are not bad defenders IMO) Reasons to be more optimistic But I agree with you, we simply can’t be shipping two goals a game and having to score 3 to get any sort of a result

Michael Appleton’s reputation for developing loanees is well-founded. His peak in that regard was 2020/21, when loanees Brennan Johnson (19 upon arrival), Morgan Rogers (18) and TJ Eyoma (20) helped his Lincoln side to reach the League One play-off final, which they’d ultimately lose to Blackpool. In their first-ever loan spells, Johnson started 41 league games and Eyoma 37, with Rogers making 26 line-ups despite joining only in January. Callum Morton (20) and Robbie Gotts (20) also pitched in as upstart temps, while on-loan Alex Palmer played 48 matches in goal.
Rogers and Johnson, in particular, catapulted themselves into the limelight as well as the Imps into a play-off final: the former earned an upper-Championship loan and the latter went straight into Nottingham Forest’s first team, then to the Premier League, then to Tottenham. How do you like them, Apples?
After that, it wasn’t surprising that football’s self-anointed royalty trusted Appleton to handle their crown jewels. Manchester City, the mutual beneficiaries of Rogers’ impressive Imps spell, gave him Lewis Fiorini (19) at Lincoln and again at Blackpool, following Appleton’s appointment there in 2022, and also sent Rogers to Bloomfield Road shortly before the loan whisperer was sacked. Arsenal endowed Appleton with 18-year-olds Brooke Norton-Cuffy (Lincoln) and Charlie Patino (Blackpool), and Liverpool handed 21-year-old Rhys Williams to his Tangerines for a time.
Wherever Appleton turns up next, we can expect some elite prospects to follow.

Well I hope Pearcey is working on defence in the meantime, we conceded 4 goals to a division 2 side, the last manager and now Pearcey can’t convince our current squad to close down sides. I feel like not going anymore, the only thing a fan wants is to see every player work hard offensively and defensively, I see that in George every week, Nathan for 1 match, no one else. Pep wouldn’t let Grealish play until he agreed to track back, we can’t get Corey to do it. The squad is young, we brought in no experience, no leaders hence no backbone, irony I enjoyed watching Jayden Stockley’s efforts against us could use some of his fight.
Need a coach if you only have youth, they need showing what to do, and drill it into them, so someone who will live on the training ground and focus on every individual. I like Nathan Jones.

Of course the players are coached to defend and defend properly but they just aren’t good enough. Unfit and unfocused is what they are. They are trying but the quality isn’t there. No amount of coaching can make it better. We needed players of a much higher standard but hey ho. We might get new manager bounce hopefully for 4 or 5 games.

He won't get my support. A very underwhelming appointment.

Appleton doesn't inspire me at all, however i'll be willing to give him a chance. If we don't get off to a flyer then his head will be on a plate after a few games!.

I don't know loads about Appleton. His win rate is horrendous though.
I wanted a long term appointment to build a squad around. He's only had two jobs longer than 12 months.
My views on Andy Scott and the wider SMT are worsening all the time.
If we don't get a manager bounce then I can't see him lasting beyond 6 months.
