Our signings so far are hardly spectacular. For what it's worth, this one is the pick of them in my opinion. A signing that will be underated come end of the season. The others however, leave a lot to be desired. Especially Egbo (basically Oshilaja version 2) and JoJo W (dropped by Swindon for a reason).

It's fairly obvious to me that we are bringing in free agents before we turn our attention to those we are going to buy because the lads who are unattached need a pre-season. Those we part with cash for would have don't carry the same fitness concerns. They will be training with their clubs as we speak and good to go when they arrive. That doesn't mean to say at the end of the window though. They need to be here in the next 10-14 days to give Garner a fortnight to decide his strongest 11.
Disappointed with some of the comments about this latest signing. Reading CL there are a few so called football experts on there who don't have a clue. I thought we were a bit better than that on here.

I have no blinkers on when it comes to Manny and Wollacot, they're gambles but come with good ratings from the boss so happy to get behind them until they say otherwise. McGrandles is a very solid L1 midfielder who has carried the Imps midfield by their own admission. It's non-flashy players like him who will grind us up the divisions.

Not sure why, but this feels like the Dale Stephens equivalent of our record breaking promotion under Chris Powell (maybe partly due to him leaving Lincoln to go back up north…)
Dale came from Oldham, wasn’t considered a coup, but did a great job in the middle of the park making the team tick. He’s gone on to bigger and better things too.
If McGrandles does the same then we’ve done very well out of this

They think he is more or a number 8 which which will help us too. Has a bit of Stephens and Cullen about him.

Dobbo, McGrandles, JFC and Gilbey competing for the two holding spots in midfield sounds alright to me. I know some don’t rate Gilbey, but I think a different system could get more out of him. Dobson - not popular opinion but I think he is nothing special just ok. JFC - above average player WHEN FIT ! Gilbey - didn’t look interested last season. McGrandles another player kicking around league 1 and 2. Boy I would even take Lyle ‘the snake’ Taylor on loan to wake this pre season. Bottom line is we need goals from midfield at the moment I can’t see where they are going to come from. Agree with most of this. JFC is only average imo however but the other lot are only capable of mid-table. Don’t be fooled by Dobbo winning poty…he was only the highest ranked shite player in a shite team. If anyone better joins then our poty will quickly drop down the rankings and if not then mid-table beckons again with either brief flirtation with top six or relegation

For every Swindon fan praising him, there's another fan slating him. He played 30 games for New York Red Bulls, 11 of which were for the first team, the same team as BWP and Lloyd Sam played for and they weren't shit. Ok at the end of the 2021 season, New York declined their contract option on him simply because they had other players in his position who were more experienced. I think we will also add Callum Johnson in that position so if Egbo struggles we have back up. Instead of saying he only played 9 games for Swindon though why not see it from a different angle which is those name games were enough for him to convince Garner that he followed him to Charlton. Swindon's regular RB, Rob Hunt picked up a bad calf injury last April and missed the rest of the season to replaced by Ego. Hunt played 37 times and chipped in with one assist while Egbo played nine times and had three assists. Give the lad a chance. www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rob-hunt/profil/spieler/335591www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mandela-egbo/profil/spieler/258917

Players with goals in them will cost money so we don't want to start banding about how much we are willing to spend while we are still recruiting free agents because their wage demands will go up. Goals will arrive in the form of attacking players I'm sure but let's get the 'any other business' done first.

You could argue that NYRB didn't exercise the options of a new contract because they simply thought he wasn't good enough after 11 games. Despite BWP and Lloyd Sam playing in the MLS, it's still not a great calibre, which is how BWP helped himself to so many goals at the end of his career. Like I said, happy to be proven wrong and sincerely hope I am. My only point was to agree that, in my humble opinion, not all of our four signings so far have been "great", although in McGrandles case, I believe it is.

Doesn't matter what NYRB thought of him it's how Ben Garner rates him that matters so if we can't trust his judgement there's little point in getting behind him next season.

Personally don't see much in his record that excites me either. JoJo W looks particularly "flappy" in clips I've seen, and spent the end of the season warming Swindon's bench. I'd personally hoped for AMB to be given a chance as I'm not a fan of C Mac. Anyway, it's not all doom and gloom from me, happy with McGrandles and quietly confident with O Connell too.

I said I was lukewarm with the signing, not as a criticism of the player, more so because I’d hoped to see by now players joining the club with a goal scoring pedigree which Conor doesn’t have. But as reams has said that’s not his job which I accept.
I don’t scrutinise other club’s players with a fine tooth comb so I’m more than happy to accept the favourable comments from those that clearly know more than me, so for the record I am pleased we’ve signed another good player that fits in with the style of play Garner wants to implement.

The one positive is that Ben Garner seems to be getting players that fit in with his preferred style of play. It just takes a massive leap of imagination to believe that a manager who won 18% of his games at Bristol Rovers is going to get us promoted with free transfers from Rochdale, Swindon & Lincoln. My prediction stands - bad start, Garner gone by October, protests start against Sandgaard the Break Even Maestro.

Are you aware of why he spent the end of the season on Swindon's bench? He actually made 37 appearances for Swindon last season which is far more than some Charlton players managed but he was in and out of Swindon's side because of his international commitments with Ghana in the African Cup of Nations, World Cup Qualifiers and warm up games for both tournaments. His last game for his club was on 18th April in a 2-1 home defeat to Leyton Orient. After that he was dropped and Lewis Ward took over between the sticks for the final six games. Wollacott's international appearances from October 2021 are listed below and there have been seven since the turn of the year so perhaps Garner felt that being in and out of the Swindon side was unsettling for both the player and their promotion push so he made the decision to elevate Ward who took his chance as they did not lose until the play-off game at Port Vale, their last of the season. My point is their was mitigation as to why Wollacott was removed from the Swindon side and because he was, it does not mean to say that it was because of a lack of form. 01/06/22 - ACO - Ghana 3-0 Madagascar 29/03/22 - WCQ - Nigeria 1-1 Ghana 25/03/22 - WQA - Ghana 0-0 Nigeria 18/01/22 - ACO - Ghana 2-3 Comoros 14/01/22 - ACO - Gabon 1-1 Ghana 10/01/22 - ACO - Morocco 1-0 Ghana 05/01/22 - FRE - Algeria 3-0 Ghana 14/11/21 - WCQ - Ghana 1-0 South Africa 11/11/21 - WQA - Ethiopia 1-1 Ghana 12/10/21 - WQA - Zimbabwe 0-1 Ghana

During the 2020/21 season Swindon got relegated and lost 90% of their squad that summer including Brett Pitman and Scot Twine. Ben Chorley brought in a group of waifs and strays, loans and free transfers, many a week before the season started and Garner managed to get them a sixth place finish. It was Harry McKirdy's first season at the club last year and Garner conjured up a formation that allowed him to score 19 goals which no striker had done for them since Eoin Doyle and Jerry Yates during 2019/20 so while his time at Bristol Rovers was not a memorable, he has bounced back and deserves credit for it.

I'll predict that the same Ben Garner, who had a 51% win percentage for Swindon last season (we can all produce facts to suit our narrative!) is still here by October! Fancy a £10 charity bet on it?

Whilst the players we've signed don't sound like world-beaters, I'm trying to see them as massive step ups on the likes of Leko, Watson, Castillo and John, who were absolute passengers for us last season.

I believe he was dropped because his form dipped massively after international duty. Craig Craig MacGillivray has played 43 games for us and is one of the worst keepers we've had in years. Bit of a moot point really.

All our signings so far have been free transfers. Hopefully this means we have money to spend on a star striker. I agree, but they are free agents rather than free transfers. There is no such thing.

My point is their was mitigation as to why Wollacott was removed from the Swindon side and because he was, it does not mean to say that it was because of a lack of form. 01/06/22 - ACO - Ghana 3-0 Madagascar 29/03/22 - WCQ - Nigeria 1-1 Ghana 25/03/22 - WQA - Ghana 0-0 Nigeria 18/01/22 - ACO - Ghana 2-3 Comoros 14/01/22 - ACO - Gabon 1-1 Ghana 10/01/22 - ACO - Morocco 1-0 Ghana 05/01/22 - FRE - Algeria 3-0 Ghana 14/11/21 - WCQ - Ghana 1-0 South Africa 11/11/21 - WQA - Ethiopia 1-1 Ghana 12/10/21 - WQA - Zimbabwe 0-1 Ghana wasn't aware he played that many games for Swindon the season before, not according to this.... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandela_EgboI was referring to the new goalkeeper who you said spend the back end of the season warming the bench. I was putting forward the reasons why. Nothing to do with Egbo.
