I know other clubs are not signing players (according to Colin) but WBA has just announced the signing of John Swift from Reading. I put him at the top of our bucket list some weeks ago, he is a very good player as well as a free agent. A shame to miss out on that one. Di you think we should be competing with WBA? A dose of realism is needed

And the relevance of that is? Reading and West Brom are both championship clubs

Are we getting any players as part of the new manager coming across? Any rumours or info of that?

Don't know what the sudden interest in Swindon's players is to be honest. The last two we had from there, Jaiyesimi and Matt Smith haven't impressed. McKirdy and Payne are the only two worth taking, possibly Louis Reed too but that's it. Reed for a midfielder doesn't score enough goals though where as the other two have scored over 30 between them last season. Davison and DJ could be used in part exchange.

Does it matter where new players are recruited from? It’s how good they are and what extra qualities and talents they bring with them that matters more so than the club their currently at?
What should be important is that someone at the club is actually involved in that side of things now (we know who they are) and work is in progress. But if player recruitment is solely dependent on the new manager and or the owner opening up his wallet, or a combination of the two, the suspicion will be that we will loose out on targets because of a lack of direction from the top and slow decision making on who the new manager will actually be.
Or am I daft?

McKirdy is an interesting one. I recall seeing him play for Carlisle against Dulwich in the FA Cup. He scored twice, but I wasn’t that impressed. I think he was very highly regarded as a kid at Aston Villa, but has struggled to breakthrough. Last season at Swindon was his only really successful one so far. He’s now 25. Funnily enough, I commented that Josh Davison looked very distressed when he missed his penalty against Port Vale. McKirdy also missed. His reaction was very odd. He almost seemed to be laughing. There may be nothing in that, but I’d want reassurance that he has the hunger and the will to play top six league one football.

Just wondered if anyone was part of the deal. I’m not trying to raid Swindon. No other rumours seem to be happening in terms of players. Maybe we can let Davison go the other way? (🤞)

To be fair, if he's just signed for WBA he was never dropping into League One, never mind signing for a lower half basket case of a club, like ours.

It’s all about opinions obviously, but worth noting that he’s signed for a club which finished 31 points above us last season and that he will be playing in the league above us next season. Suggests to me that he’s not been offered a new contract either for some off-the-field reason or because we can’t afford him. Good luck to him. I hope Rotherham survive in the Championship this time.

I think other posters on this forum have alluded to off field issues between Connor, his agent and JJ but Im not sure of the details.

When Washington was released a few people elsewhere said they'd heard he was a bit of a moaner and considered bad for team morale. Not sure how much truth there is in that but fits the narrative that he wasn't let go for football reasons.

Anyone ?

Nothing on social media but I've been told Tom Eaves will be joining. I don't exactly know how people can be joining if we haven't got a manager.

Ipswich Town have just announced the signing of Rotherham’s Freddie Ladapo.
The best striker we faced at the Valley last season.
And certain people still claim that our rivals are not signing players while we are stuck in the blocks ?

That’s an outstanding signing by Ipswich , and a real statement of their ambitions.

Wake up Martin .

Will Grigg is available on a free. He's one we've been linked with repeatedly for a couple of years, which means he's probably on the shortlist.
He did well at Rotherham though by all accounts, so they might fancy taking him on a perm.
