Rumours are Jason Kerr, St Johnstone captain was due to sign for us today until Wigan came in and blew us out of the water……looks like he is signing for them now…..source the other forum…. This was exactly why I was saying 2 months ago that leaving it this late in the window, we could end up with egg on our face! Let's hope there are plenty more irons in the fire in the next 5 hours! |

I really want to remain positive, but only confirming Arter so late today which we already 99% knew about days ago anyway, makes it extremely difficult not to be negative, we need at least 2 / 3 more players before 11pm and quite simply reading that teams are "blowing us out of the water", is not good enough and we will be left with panic loans. Really struggling to remain upbeat about our current situation!

Every agent under the sun will be trying to link their players with clubs in order to drum up interest from elsewhere. I take all these random rumours as noise unless it really does come from someone in the know (and they are very rare these days, despite what some would have you believe). I'm happy with Arter, but we need much more... Tick, tock....

When is our owner (whoever that maybe) going to provide the appropriate funds at the right time, to get the quality players over the line, days, if not weeks before the deadline. It's the only way we will get the quality players that are needed to have a team to be proud of, trying to save pennies is costing pounds in the long run. The only way to get returns is to invest, this has been going on for season after season, it's not only frustrating it's driving me nuts!

I went to my optician today who happens to be a Walsall season ticket holder, we chatted about footy as we always do. He mentioned that in Walsall transfer deadline day this year is know as….. Tuesday….. I know how you feel was my reply.

We are short of creativity and precision in midfield - no question. We can live with Purrington / Gunther / Matthews options for two full back and have four centre backs. A tad early to judge but tend to agree re. Clare and Dobson - can fill the bench Unless they sign another striker quickly we are at risk re. Stockley and injury until 1 January 2022. |

Before the season ends a club knows who is leaving for one reason or another and the positions that need strengthening for the coming season. The targets for the coming season should also be known at this time, if the targets are to expensive for your budget your aiming to high, for if the players are quality they won't get cheaper the longer the window is open, they are more likely be snapped up by other clubs. Identify the players (2 or 3 targets for each position that needs strengthening to get one to do the job) early on and bring in the quality required, it may cost more at that time but there is every chance that the right signings would increase in value, therefore making money in the longer term. Also building a team in league 1, it would make sense if you have ambitions for promotion to bring in players that can be developed into championship players. The January window should be used to make the odd tweak and move on surplus players.

LB Brandon Mason has just left Coventry by mutual consent. Born in Westminster. That could be some good detective work. Sam Levelle is a good player. Mason not done too much at Coventry. Don't think he was starting for them much last season. We do need a LB. If someone doesn't come in, scandalous. Not sure Mason was top of anyone's list though. |
