I agree too; Alou Diarra was a superb player, especially in midfield. Slightly wasted at the back but I suspect that was a move to save his legs a bit. Definitely legs. The way he saw what was going on and marshalled the ball about was superb. Very comfortable.

Guy Luzon moved Diarra to the back.
Jose Riga signed Jorge Texeira and moved Diarra back into midfield.
That side we ended up with was actually pretty good. Just lacked a goalscorer. Lookman did well but Igor was injured a lot. Yaya Sanogo would've been ok but got stupidly sent off. Makienok got injured and we didn't get enough crosses in for him when he did play.
I'd love to have Diarra, Fanni, Motta, Gudmonsson, a fit Igor, Lookman playing with the likes of Taylor, Cullen and Williams now!
A fictional 3-4-2-1 for fun...
Phillips
Fanni Bauer Sarr
Motta Cullen Diarra Doughty
Gudmonsson Williams
Taylor

We had some good players in 2015-16 but the Karel Fraeye period killed the team. Of all the bad things Roland did, having Fraeye as manager was the worst. But when you think about it, Bowyer had no managerial experience either, so in a sense just got lucky there.

Diarra and Makienok were injured (so Lookman got his chance).

Very sad to hear Patrick Bauer has suffered what looks like a serious injury, in the PNE game against Bournemouth.
One of the few stars of our recent years, and a true professional. I hope you make a full recovery Patrick, and as soon as possible.

So, wait. It's not just our players who get injured? Who knew.
I hope he has a speedy recovery. Seems like a very down to earth guy and brilliant professional. Not a great time to be injured tbh!

What a shame, Always liked Patty Bauer even before the special goal. Solid defender. Best wishes to him :-)

Yes best wishes to Pat, a good player for us, and still takes an interest in how we are doing. Wish him a speedy as possible and full recovery.

Solid player with no toys going out of the pram - ever!
Hope he makes a full recovery.
Earlier in the thread is a reminder that to keep your best players you need to double their wages! And provide a competitive, developing squad.

I see Bauer is surplus to requirements at Preston.

Will always be grateful for that goal and was a good player in his time with us. But NJ said it best recently..... "NO ROOM FOR SENTIMENT"
