Preston, Wigan, Blackburn. None a step up. Simply a money move and to be honest he deserves better.
Good luck to him.
Forever in the memory of Charlton fans after THAT moment.

Will be forever grateful for that goal that made the greatest day with my boys at a Charlton match. Has been a good servant for four years always gives his all.
But have the feeling this will be a blessing in disguise especially if Pearce goes too. Big challenge for Bowyer and Gallen; but have a feeling a new backline maybe a plus in the championship

I wish Bauer good luck, but to be honest, I don't think this is anything more than a sideways move career-wise.

Replacing a decent 26 year old Centre Back with EFL experience will be a challenge
www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48689883
"Preston North End have signed German defender Patrick Bauer on a three-year deal following his decision to leave fellow Championship side Charlton.
Bauer, 26, scored the late goal in the League One play-off final that won promotion for Charlton back to the second tier after a three-year absence.
But he turned down the offer of a new deal at Charlton, who are in talks about a potential takeover.
The ex-German youth international will officially complete his move on 1 July."

Lots of people moaning about Preston on here.
Firstly, after several years of living inside a basket case of a club, I’m not surprised he’s jumped ship. He’s got no idea when and if any takeover might happen and at 26, this will statistically be most likely the biggest contract of his career. Preston are a club that have stabilised in Championship, got an ambitious manager who managed to get a very small squad to within a shout of the playoffs last year and where he’s probably been told he will play regularly and push for top 6. Their ground has been rebuilt and they have a massive history, if a quiet recent past.
On top of that, Preston the town has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years and is now scores massively on those guides to top places to live. It’s surrounded by stunning countryside and for the price of a townhouse in Chiselhurst, you can buy a small mansion with grounds big enough for several football pitches! Traffic is a lot better and you’re only half an hour from Manchester if you want shops.
No brainier, really.

No Surprise.
We won't compete in this league with wage offers.
Gutted to see Bauer leave.

It's up to him.
Telling that he moved to Preston rather than back to Germany. Just shows how mental Championship wages are, that it's now seemingly out-bidding the lower half of the Bundesliga and all of Bundesliga 2.

Beautiful part of the world and house prices a fraction of what they are in the south. Flights back to Germany out of Manchester. Everything he had with us and a bigger pay packet, who can blame him. Good luck BFG, I just hope we can replace you.

True but with a few weeks of the season to go, they were still in the mix. They had a small squad and fell away at the end of the season, dropping 20 points from 24 in their last eight games. Even with that collapse, they still finished above teams like Blackburn, Stoke and Reading, not to mention the mob from Cold Blow Avenue.

I wish Bauer good luck, but to be honest, I don't think this is anything more than a sideways move career-wise. In some ways maybe but not financially. As always money talks .

Of course it's about money - if we had been prepared to pay what PNE have paid him do you think he would have left ? Course not - all about the dollar and what his agent can make out of it.

Yes of course, it’s the most common reason anyone changes their job, and not just footballers .
If offered two or three times their present salary , who wouldn’t take it .

If Preston are offering him more than 15 grand a week (See the Aribo thread) then good luck to him. Only a short career.
