Bowyer: “We had someone at their ground waiting to sign but they needed papers to bring someone else in before he could go. We can’t control that. We have a budget and we can’t go and buy a striker for £1.5m or whatever Sunderland has just paid. We don’t have that budget. We have what we have and we’re doing well with that." Not sure how LB and SG are getting so much stick for yesterday if i'm honest. They are doing well with what they have as a budget.
Why couldn't we buy a striker for £1.5 million? We had the money if the amount we received for Grant is to be believed. It's just the owner wouldn't release it.

I think one of the reasons that some of us are annoyed/disappointed is because we all knew what we needed , as did LB and SG , it doesn’t matter what has gone on previous in the window , it’s all about the here and now and the fact is that we needed a striker to replace the one that has been known to be leaving for at least 6 days...
We didn’t need a defender or a midfielder , we are fine there , all that we needed was a striker and everyone knew that and to throw all your eggs into one Mo Eisa shaped basket was , as said many times above , naive to the maximum , ok LB and SG have done well before , I’m first to agree , but last night they let us all down and for me YES it is about the numbers when we have a threadbare striker room..

Jeddez, Igor is a write off and has been for a long time. No doubt he’ll leave at the end of the season, but he has a part to play this season so isn’t it better to get behind him rather than write him off... His shoulder injury was unfortunate, it’s up to him to earn the right to get a contract somewhere for next season which will be decided on how he plays til the end of the season. shoulder ? im worried about his fucking feet ! 3 goals in 26 games in a shockingly shite league !

Fact is we sold Grant three days before our replacement fell through right at the death.
If you are going to leave things that late you need to be absolutely certain that you have got your man
Bristol City didn't help the situation and RD really is pushing the hatred for him to new boundaries, however the fact remains that we created last night's situation ourselves and have potentially blown our promotion chances as a result.

I don't think Grant's agent helped to much either.

Jay Simpson is training with Orient.
Apparently he would prefer a League club. Free agent since leaving the MLS in November.

To be fair, I don't think they expected Grant to leave. If I read correctly, Lee Bowyer stated, that two or three good offers of a new contract had been made to KHG.. His agent stated that they would not talk about a new contract, until the end of season. Then Huddersfield come along with offer, and a player with 5 months left on contract', states he wants to leave. Once he said wanted to go, that's it... So Charlton, I assume unprepared for this and the Josh Parker was Ajose replacement. I presume had we been having more people through the gates, we would have more to spend. No way can you compete with Sunderlsnd on their huge gates, and paying 4 million for Will Grigg... I for one wish Josh Parker all the very best, in our shirt....

Highly doubt that RD would have let Bowyer spend money if attendances were up.
He is looking to sell the club, so just looking to keep the club afloat in the meantime.
We've gotta go with what we have now anyway.

Doubt we would have been close to falling foul of the financial fair Play regulations though, as we haven't really spent much this season.

LB and Gallen have work to do next week scouring through the free agent options which surely they have to do.

It’s not transfer fees it’s wages, we still have some on championship wages which when turnover is reduced affects our ability to sign players... That’s right. The Salary Cost Management Protocol (SCMP) rules, which are Leagues One and Two’s version of FFP, are complex though. There are perhaps three important factors to focus on as far as we are concerned. First, the transitional arrangements (i.e. following relegation from the Championship) appear to imply that the wages of Bauer, Sarr and Vetokele are (still) excluded from the calculation. Second, transfer profits are included in the definition of turnover so that, very crudely, a transfer fee received of £1.5m covers £1.0m of wage bill. Third, and most significantly, the definition of turnover includes ‘donations’ from the owner and injections of equity. In practice, this means owners can spend what they like. The SCMP is not, therefore, a constraint on the club’s wage bill. The only constraint is the owner’s willingness to increase his losses. This is very different from FFP in the Championship.

Thanks for that Mundell.
In a nutshell there is a ‘protocol’ which is as leaky as a sieve if the EFL want to encourage clubs not to overspend.

Because you don’t get the 1.5 mill in full ... I heard the first payment was only about 500,000 ... and Elsa loan would have taken most of that

Either way, it could be over for us. We needed someone and haven't got them. A lot of pressure on Parker now. Why there pressure ? If he does not score a single goal but has 15 assists that lead to anyone else scoring he been a success ... not down to one man to score goals (hopefully he can take a pen )
