Ketts has suggested that Walsall skipper George Dobson is thought to be wanted at The Valley. Dobson has had an unusual football journey so far, showing determination and bravery to progress in the professional game. He is a 21-year-old midfielder from Harold Wood in Essex. He was on the books of Arsenal and West Ham as a youngster, and had a loan spell at Walsall, before signing for Sparta Rotterdam last summer. The Saddlers continued to monitor Dobson, and brought him back to England on a permanent deal in January. He operates as a defensive midfielder, and controls games from a deep position. He is similar in style to Jake Forster-Caskey and Josh Cullen. Dobson has bags of potential, and it is easy to see why Lee Bowyer could be interested in him. He turned in an impressive performance at Highbury on Saturday, picking up Sky's Man of the Match award. He is comfortable at League One level, and looks to have the ability to cut it at a higher lever. Walsall have acted swiftly to ward off Dobson's growing list of admirers. He penned a new deal last week that ties him to the Bescot until the summer of 2021.

When’s a contract not a contract? When it’s signed by a footballer! 😉

We won't pay the money Walsall would want

Yes we will, Cullen won't play for us again so we'll just use the refunded loan fee.

Bowyer himself has said publicly he is looking at players so funds must be available.

If Jed Steer does go back, it would probably be the easiest loan to replace, my fear is that we may be bedding in 4/5 new players in January which may take time during a period we need maximum returns.

I'll be astonished if we were to purchase anyone who costs a fee.

Fitzsimons is Notts Co first choice keeper, so I presume he won't come on loan to us. If a fee is involved why don't we buy Amos who will bed in much quicker.

I haven't got a scooby what Fitzsimons is worth, considerably less than Amos I would assume, but one can dream that perhaps new owners would be interested. However IMO, new owners are still a long way off.

I'll be astonished if we were to purchase anyone who costs a fee. So would I. Very rarely is much major business done in January. I would expect a couple of loans towards the end of the month, unless one or two of our loans go back, when they will probably come in earlier. Otherwise "It is what it is".

What sort of fee would Tom Eaves command out of interest , a few clubs eyeing him up apparently...?

I would be surprised also if any fees were paid to buy a player . I think LB will be more concerned about players leaving in January , than players arriving , although he has said he needs back up at left back .

Our challenge is that out of five or six identified as needing new contracts, only Page has signed an extension. So the rest might go for free next summer which means a big bid would tempt RD. On the flip side, it looks like we will be top six in January and with decent players coming back from injury.

Without a new owner fear we will struggle to keep current players, players like Taylor being sold to cover losses is my fear.

Interesting question. I’ve no idea, but it’s entirely possible. As I’ve noted previously, it’s exactly potential value like this (Lookman, Gomez, Gudmundsson, Pope et al) which might explain the asking price for the club and, despite our surprise that anyone will pay it, the fact the Duchatelet and LDT keep insisting price isn’t the issue.

And maybe a reality check for those who think that the White Knights on their chargers coming in to buy the club won't sell our "best" assets.

Ah now there’s a thought Cants - a dose of reality to counteract somewhat naive blue sky thinking 👍

Mate is a season ticket holder at Wolves , just asked him about both players and he said...
“Iorfa is really good with plenty of speed , the talk was of him replacing Doherty if he was gonna be out long term , but he isn’t. Did really well on loan last year at Ipswich. Ebanks would be fine in league 1 , although tbh I’ve not seen much of him , my pal saw a lot of him last year when he was on loan with MK Dons and didn’t really rate him , said he was a bit of a lump it merchant. Both would do a job for you in league 1 but definitely hope for Iorfa as he’s quality...”
I’ve no idea if any of that even makes sense as I’d never heard of either..
