Disappointing night for the fans , but especially for Lee , given the hard work that he has done to get us in this position. Even more so when you look at the business the teams at the top have done to strengthen their squads .
I’ve only seen Parker a couple of times , but he did look pretty good against us . Hopefully with LB and Jacko’s coaching , he can raise his goals stats , I’ll watch him play before writing him off. Pity to not be able to get Eisa as well . Two forwards out , and only one in isn’t good , especially with Igor being unreliable . Even Ajose would’ve been a better option, and that’s saying something.
Let’s hope that losing Grant hasn’t derailed our season .

Bristol City pull plug on loan deal at the 11th hour .... LB said we had the deal lined up yesterday so did not see a problem but the club in question failed to get their three targets ..... They were sure they were getting Hogan from Villa but he chose Sheff Utd and from that point on we were always going to get done over. I have been saying it all day so not sure why the club didn't see it happening and having a plan B in place in the event it did. Never mind Bristol City pulling the plug, it comes across to me that we didn't want it enough. They worked hard on the deal and Elsa himself was down on wed stayed in the Marriott at Bexleyheath spent Thursday just waiting to sign ....... Parker was always signing even if Grant had stayed he was the second signing Elsa was the first . To say we did not try hard enough is harsh on LB and SG ..... sometimes you have to feel sorry for the player as well he clearly wanted to join us hopefully we can get him in the summer

Either way, it could be over for us. We needed someone and haven't got them. A lot of pressure on Parker now.

One of the most depressing nights ever last night , let’s hope the next few days is the last that we speak or think about the last week since Karlan left and a striker not being bought in to replace him...
All we need now is 14 x 90 minutes from Lyle Taylor and we should be ok.. 🙏🏼

Went to bed seriously pissed off, woke up with the 'ump!
Its so hard being a Charlton fan at times, hey ho, I should be used to it by now!
Whilst Bow and Gallen have done an amazing job so far, I felt they put all their eggs in one basket yesterday and nothing hatched!
Parker is just a journeyman footballer who we now have to hope that he hits the ground running and scores us some goals, a big ask I think!
That leaves us a youngster who has yet to prove himself and a sick note who is certainly not the player he once was to score our goals if Parker fails. Appalling when we are trying to get promotion!
IMHO we should have had a back up striker that their club wasn't reliant on bringing in someone else. The lad from Spurs springs to mind, now snapped up by Sunderland. Surely it would have been easier for him to stay in London!
Obviously their hands were tied and it appears there was no funding from RD available, but we certainly should have done better!
Hope they leave me alone at work today grrrr!

Great summary Essex , all we need now is 3pts Saturday and then for Reams to delete or move this thread as we don’t need reminding of our shortcomings from yesterday.. (Went too bed wishing we’d signed Leko... 😂😂)

Massively disappointing obviously. We’ll probably never know quite what went wrong or whether a lack of budget was a problem. However, what the January window has shown once again is just how hard it can be to get the right business done in the ‘will he won’t he’, transfer-domino like feeding frenzy.
It now appears to have been a mistake to let Nicky Ajose move to Mansfield on loan, though it seemed like a good idea at the time and perhaps even a blessed relief. Had we waited, however, he may not have found a home and we could have been stuck with his wages and that ‘Billy big bollocks’ walk. It’s not easy.
Josh Parker doesn’t have much pedigree. He signed for Wealdstone in National League South as recently as January 2017, albeit only briefly, and is clearly a ‘filler’, not a primary target. Be interesting to know how late he came onto our radar. He’ll play at Fleetwood and then at the Valley against Southend. Let’s hope he can deliver. To be fair to him, he has looked ‘decent’ when we’ve played Gillingham and he may give us something different, though he’s clearly no replacement for Grant.
Thereafter, when Lyle Taylor returns from suspension, and perhaps with Igor Vetokele closer to match fitness, it will be interesting to see what Lee Bowyer does. Will Parker stay in the side? Will Bowyer try to play 4-5-1? How does he get the best out of Fosu and Williams who, on their day, are both potential match winners? Can Igor step up? It’s all become a lot more complicated.
In the meantime, our chances of winning promotion have clearly fallen. That said, first thing this morning our odds on Skybet hadn’t changed. A chance to cash in bets and take some profits for those who like a flutter and who have been riding the recent tightening of our odds for promotion?

Hoping Vetobelly gets fit quick and can show the form when he first arrived at the club although I won’t hold my breath. His wages are probably one of the reasons we cannot bring in the type of forward we need , anyone know how long he has left?

Just a point to note- it is ok to be disappointed in a clearly poor window. It’s not about slagging anyone off before we see them play in our shirt. We did NOT do good business, many of our rivals did. Fact.

We didn't do good business in the last week of the Window. The rest was good. Next few results will be very important. We don't want to lose our momentum now because of this!
Would love Parker to score against Fleetwood..

Spot on Andy, 'they didn't have issues' they have ambition, ambition to finish in an automatic promotion spot. Whereas we will now only finish in a play off spot (if we're lucky ). We could all see that we needed a striker with a good pedigree, at least one, possibly two and we ended up with a journeyman winger who is valued at £180, 000 (transfermarkt). Not good enough, not good enough at all.

We did NOT do good business, many of our rivals did. Fact. I'm not one for slagging off a player before he kicks a ball , however, the club / board / recruitment team have let the PLAYERS and supporters down massively, unprofessional is an understatement !!! To knowling have your No1 striker banned for 3 games then sell your No2 when 3 points off an automatic promotion spot, without a backup strategy is beyond incompetent. This club is truly a JOKE ! People got the hump over Parker, this is on the SAME level , disgusting, the club is a circus and I really feel for Bowyer & the squad. like I've already said , Sunderland and Luton added players, us well, look at this link - now notice the loans going into Luton etc, fair play to them www.transfermarkt.com/league-one/transfers/wettbewerb/GB3/plus/?saison_id=2018&s_w=w&leihe=0&leihe=1&intern=0&intern=1

Unlike us long suffering Charlton fans who are left completely in the dark during transfer windows, Bristol City fans had minute by minute updates yesterday via the Bristol Post and as I said last night it was clear from a very early stage that they missed their targets, Scott Hogan for example choosing Sheffield Utd instead.
The question here has to be, why were Gallen and Bowyer not privvy to that? I knew what was going on there and could see exactly what was going happen before 8pm so it begs the question what were we thinking of dilly dallying and holding out for a player that was looking increasingly unlikely would come as the night went on. Why did we not have a plan B and divert to it once the Eisa situation became obvious which it was well before midnight? We were getting told we had up to six targets so what happened?
RD is a spiteful cnut but clearly he had sanctioned an expensive loan coming in and you can't point the finger at him because we messed it up.

We have a close knit team and have Vetokele coming back. We signed 4 good players in the window, all players with experience at this or higher level in the English leagues. I think LB’s naivety and inexperience in transfer windows made our acquisition of another forward fail. However, just because other teams sign players doesn’t mean it guarantees them results and new players can also disrupt the momentum of teams. Nothing is a given in this league and everything to play for. We have 3 good strikers, 2 of which are playing for their futures whether with us or elsewhere. The window is done (except potential frees) so let’s move on and get behind the lads...

Jeddez, Igor is a write off and has been for a long time. No doubt he’ll leave at the end of the season, but he has a part to play this season so isn’t it better to get behind him rather than write him off... His shoulder injury was unfortunate, it’s up to him to earn the right to get a contract somewhere for next season which will be decided on how he plays til the end of the season.

I wasn't aware of that I just read it yesterday, it must have been Assombalonga and their other target.
That said there was an article at the beginning of this week which suggested a swop may be in the offing between us and them with Max O'Leary and Mo Eisa coming our way with Grant going to them so if that had any legs, and the Bristol Post certainly suggested it did, then surely once it was scuppered by Huddersfield's move we should have been on our toes anticipating a potential problem with Eisa coming to us.
Either way we should have been better prepared, leaving it until the last minute was ridiculous on our part.

Bowyer: “We had someone at their ground waiting to sign but they needed papers to bring someone else in before he could go. We can’t control that. We have a budget and we can’t go and buy a striker for £1.5m or whatever Sunderland has just paid. We don’t have that budget. We have what we have and we’re doing well with that."
Not sure how LB and SG are getting so much stick for yesterday if i'm honest. They are doing well with what they have as a budget.

To be honest always been impressed with him ... decent signing but still a loan position open ?? At this level very good player can play wide as well 14 goals in 70 games. What are you on? If he was that good Gillingham, near the bottom of the table, would have kept him.

He is referring to Eisa 100%. Sorry Lee but you have had all month to remedy what we lacked up front and that was even when Grant was still here. Automatics are gone after tonight, I wouldn't even bank on us holding onto a play off spot anymore either. Madness. Were no worse off unless you really rated Ajose .. Parker for Grant very little diff in type of play , as I said before Taylor needs to control himself he can’t keep getting suspended, and we have Vetokele and Reeco ...... Parker will be playing with better players and with Taylor will be a strong physical partnership ..... We have a strong mid and a strong defence top 6 won’t be a problem ..... But the whole point of a transfer window is to be better off FFS. You are totally delusional.
