It's difficult to know how I feel about this deal until I see how much of the transfer fee is reinvested in our squad. I don't understand how anyone can get too upset that Gomez has been sold, that's only half the story, what RD does with the money will complete the picture. Exactly! What happens in July to complete our squad for 2015-16 is what matters. We need at least five quality players and I can see every penny of the Gomez fee being spent on fees and signing on bonuses. Always remember many of our squad will be worth a fortune if we can move into the top eight. And that will be our best finish for nearly ten years. We have seen that quality players can be signed for free or on loan or for a couple of million. Someone else mention Katrien Meire - it looks like the financial results after the sale if Joe Gomez will be the best for ten years. A new young executive team are delivering on and off the pitch. Some will say the Gomez sale is a one off...I think not! Next June I expect we will cover losses with another big sale, we will release those who don't perform and we will then sign more talent. In case people don't get the message ours is a club which is moving up the food chain.

I do hope all the moaners weren't the same ones who gave were complaining Gomez wasn't good enough. Several times during his purple patch, I said that he was playing better than the current other CBs and better on the right then Solly. It wasn't a well received view. The Solly arse licking brigade were most put out. Have to say if he is going to struggle for form and fitness this year we are going to need a good RB as well.

Is anybody else starting to think that the reason we have not found a partner yet for Bauer and seem in now hurry to do so is because Gomez is coming back to us on loan? It's either that or we'll put Diarra back there and buy another midfielder.

We are woefully short at the back and desperately need two new centre backs. Diarra and Bikey won't cut it in my book and the verdict is out on Bauer, so it has to be Joe on loan plus one more to satisfy me.

Liverpool are prepared to loan him out this season but prefer it to be to a Championship club who will be challenging for the play-offs or top 8 at the very least so if it's going to be us I guess that we have until they arrive home from their tour of the far East and Australia to show what our intentions are.
Another option is we could have him on loan with an add on written off but if we are not challenging and he is therefore not benefiting from the move Liverpool have a clause that they can recall him in January.

Gomez coming back to us on loan is complete Pie In The Sky, as a quick glance at his Twitter account would demonstrate. He has said he goodbyes to Charlton and to coin a phrase "moved on". Any chance of him being loaned back to us would have been announced at the time of the transfer by M***e, as no doubt she was getting stick from disgruntled Charlton fans via e mail

This kinds of sums some Charlton empty heads up as does bullying her on trains.
We have some real scum supporting the club who's bollocks are not big enough to do the same thing to a bloke.
We never saw or heard of Slater or Jiminez suffering the same abuse?

Wrong Reams - Peter Varney, Steve Waggott and Steve Kavanagh took plenty of flak from Charlton fans in their time, it goes with the six figure salary. No reason why Meire should be treated any differently, after all, its not as if she ever trades on her femininity is it?

A credit to the academy and last season's first team management. Incredible if he steps straight into the first team squad at Anfield and one to be proud of.

I agree completely, and wish the lad every success in the future ( unless of course its against us. ) Nobody chooses for their rising stars to be sold but with a club like ours its a fact of both life and business and only those in the room when the deal is struck will know what its worth to us now and in the future. But I have said for many weeks that our academy deserves a big slap on the back for turning out a fine young professional in every sense of the word, lets hope he stays that way and doesn't become another self promoting, deluded, spoilt brat. Although I feel he wont.

Given what's happened with Lenglet and the release of TBH and Johnson before that and the sale of Joe, I am starting to thing that maybe we have an agreement with Liverpool as part of the Joe deal to take a CB from them on a season long loan.
As I have said above a very small part of me still thinks it might be Joe himself but if not maybe we have first dibs on somebody like Tiago Ilori?

I can't disagree Reams - surely there was great interest in the young man from a host of top clubs so as well as the fee and various add ons we must have had sufficient leverage to include an additional option of a loan deal or two over the season??

And he's starting for them today against Stoke. What a chance for the lad - I hope it goes well for him.

Me too. He commited himself to us and put a nice big release clause in his contract. We get a load of needed dollar he plays at the level every boy dreams of. Go on joe #madeincharlton

I hope he justifies the start and this takes him one step closer to the big time including full England honours - something predicted by Buyens and Gudmundsson at the Eltham player evening and hopefully something to trigger more bonusses for us. Valley Golders should feal proud that their £100K annual contribution to the club (after prizes) has helped produce such a player and such a big contribution to our finances. We all know it was a worry to see him, Ben Haim and Johnson all leave the club over the summer but yesterday will have reassured most that we can hold our own at the back.

Having seen Gomez play last night against Arsenal I reckon that he was always earmarked for early appearances with the scousers. Seems to have taken the massive step up in his stride.

Buyens and Gudmundson said last night that his best option is a big money move with a loan back to us for a year or two. They think he'll play for England one day! From April 2015: not my view but the opinion of two professionals. And perhaps a bonus payment for CAFC?
