Sarcastic comments aside here please.
Three sides gave him a rapturous ovation today for all he has done for us.
I'm thinking he must have done something right.

Powell, Slater and Jiminez brought us out of League 1 and kept us in the championship. Fortunately Slater and Jiminez arranged that most of those contracts expired last summer. Without that we wouldn't have seen such a contrast today. 12 months on from Sheffield United and that team today was unrecognisable from the one that fell over at Bramall Lane. But delivered with the same budgetted loss of £5m. Same stadium, same budget but today crowns the first year of transformation. M.Duchatelet clearly didn't fancy Powell. Some find that hard to deal with. And because they disagree so vehemently they are blind to any argument. I don't feel I need to counter their position head-on even if I find the endless attacks on our club a tad annoying. But let me add this: Even, as above, we run on the same budgetted loss the value of our squad on Transfermarkt has doubled in 14 months. Yes doubled! This is as a result of three factors: 1) Big revaluations upwards for Vetokele, Cousins and Gomez. 2) Recent acquisition of three decent players 3) Massive transformation of the squad last summer. We are still a long way from a top six squad but equally, we are a long way from bottom six.
Some want no change. And some want instant success. Many are struggling to cope with the turbulence but somehow the outcome today makes the journey worthwhile.
Ideally Luzon gets to keep and add to what is fast becoming the best CAFC squad since relegation from the FAPL.
I'm going to watch how this develops rather than spend a single second worrying about February 2014.

You lot astound me by your petty bickering about inconsequentialities. FFS, you've just won 3-0 and are on a decent run. Get a life.

Elfsborg, please don't ever accuse me over attention seeking, I think you will know exactly what I mean by that. Three sides may have given him a rapturous applause today but I abstained and let a few Charlton fans around me know what I thought of their generosity and suggesting to them applauding our own manager?

Yes you did, the question was asked by Valley11 on CL if some of the attitudes on here towards the applause for Powell were down to this forum attention seeking and you replied with a yes?
Why would I attention seek, i was there today and did not put my hands together once, nobody noticed me not clapping and I don't suspect anybody around me was interested in the slightest.
I was there today and my one man protest was carried out and now I can move on.
By the way I saw quite a few fans keep their hands in their pockets too.

Well that would be in general rather than one person, overall I would hate to think what attitudes to Powell would be if he was less successful than he was. However, football is a matter of opinion.

I keep reading this exaggerated word of successful?
I don't call winning L1 a success when we were in the Premier league 5 years earlier do you?
Wolves fans will tell you that when they won it a year after it wasn't a success, it was a necessity.

I think there is a despicable agenda on this site about Chris Powell. I don't think for minute what has and will be said would be said of a white manager who did what he did for the club. Shame on you.

What has that got to do with you? Does that mean he is not a fan? I used to go to 30 a season now it's not even half that! I don't get this you don't go to games nonsense, he lives in Shropshire, I live in Wales, do you travel away? what's the difference?
People have served their time when it comes down to spending every Saturday hundreds of miles away at a home game.
There was a 21 year old on here a month ago questioning my attendance record!! yet I was a reuglar for the 9 years before he was born.
Attendance record means nothing I'm afraid and cuts no ice with me as a subject on where to win an argument or score points.

Don't worry andy he has been banned and that won't be the end of it, I have his details so accusing me of being a racist is a very serious mistake.
He no has the gall to insult me on the shit rag he posts on - we really do have some right scum supporting our club and CL is well represented.

I am Sorry you have MS a terrible thing to have, however there is no need to use that and being a single parent to make your point. It is not about attendance in general it is about the comments you make like your response to elsberghence why I linked it to his comment.

In answer to your question yes I do go to away games and have been going to home games for years so what has it got to do with you. Didn't realise it was an attendance competion. Although I do realise attendance is a sore point for some, I could of sworn we won 3.0 today and still people want go back to cp slagging off.

Exeter away, from memory was 1-0 with Danny Green miskicking it in from the right. It was turgid stuff that day but by then we were coasting to the title. However 100 points and 100 goals must tell another story

It is a forum of opinions but judging people my how many games they have been to is not about opinions is it. Bystander made a comment and your reply was about him going to games? What is the point? What ever his or anybody's reasons are it has nothing to do with you, me or anybody else. Not everybody can attend games every week for a variety of reasons, if somebody wants to go but can't because of financial restraints does that make them any less of a fan than a season ticket holder?

Great post SR, I got a lot of stick on here for believing in patience and seeing how the new team was brought together and albeit its early days it's great to see the significant improvement. In terms of Watt it was just having the right coach to bring out the best in his ability... If RD is willing to strengthen our squad with the quality required then I have no issues with him at all. His regime do things in a different way which I can see is frustrating to many but businessmen don't invest money to lose it so his aim would always be to get us to the prem, what happens from there remains to be seen but just to be there again would be fantastic for all involved in CAFC...

Elf and addick.....I did go to most matches in the Parky era, but I had moved west just before we stormed the Bundesliga league 1. It may be a retrospective view, but what I'm seeing over the last few games is very entertaining thoughtful football, and yesterday really did show how one dimensional CP's football was and still is. I must admit that RD may not know much about football management, but like most of us on here he could see that Powell was never going to up his game and take us to the next level. ps. My reference to illness and my kids were practical examples of non attendance...I'm not one to look for sympathy. pps. Don't take me or life too seriously

Have you forgotten his time playing as a left back and being Charlton's first England call up since Mike Bailey? Have you forgotten his time as a manager when we finished as Champions and finishing in a respectable position first season in the Championship without hardly no funds available? Of course not but your only as good as your last game and his was a shocker, over the moon when he got sacked no matter what he did for us as a player which by the way is nowhere near what the real Legends achieved.. I'm one of the realists who cares much more about what the likes of Mendonca, Hunt, Kinsella, Robinson and Rufus did in a red shirt than what Powell did in a white one with three lions on it. Grown men wetting themselves at the thought of seeing an old flame again is embarrassing, I just hope nobody gets a load shot all over their back on Saturday the minute the some fans clap eyes on him. "Your only as good as your last game and his was a shocker" Blimey Reams, I can't believe someone with football knowledge would think like that. Its true his last game was a shocker but overall he did not too bad for us. Lets look at some the previous managers and their last game then: Bob Peeters: Charlton 0 - 1 Brighton Chris Powell: Sheffield United 2 - 0 Charlton Phil Parkinson: Charlton 2 - 4 Swindon Alan Curbishley: Man Utd 4 - 0 Charlton Lennie Lawrence: Plymouth 2 - 0 Charlton So, out of these managers you obviously only rated Riga as manager? lol
