A good win in front of a 25k football for a fiver crowd would be grand but let's take it a step at a time!

Did you hate him as a player or a person? I respect the (different) opinion of his managerial prowess, but I'm baffled by the bitterness.

Andy I didn't get there tonight mate, it was always going to be touch and go, it was coming home that was the issue, I didn't fancy a 40 minute wait at Warrington Bank Quay or Liverpool Lime Street at 23:00pm at night.
Will catch up with you at the Blackburn game though.

Will certainly be a strange atmosphere next Saturday - lots of 50 something men in Kagools reduced to floods of tears.
If we let the Arch Thespian and media manipulator milk it and turn the day into a celebration of his favourite subject - himself - we will deserve to lose.
Move On.

I have absolutely no desire to "shove one up him" When he returns to the (away) dug-out with his team, i will applauad him in. When the Ref starts the game i want my team to beat his.

I'm getting sick of this stupid bitterness. We never made the FA cup semi final with Powell so bloody what, we never made it under curbs either after coming very close but no one is holding it against him. CP and players went into that game knowing that even if they'd won many of them would not be there for wembley, the uncertaintity and unsettlement wasn't powells fault it was Rolsnds. And even if it was down to CP hating him forever more because of it is a complete overthetop reaction. I'm also sick of the bitter telling the non-bitter to "move-on" when it's them that don't want to let go, it's them that use every opportunity to have a dig and them that start threads of hate so them that need to move on.
I want us to beat Huddersfield next week, but this has nothing to do with who their manager is, it's because I support charlton so want them to do well, simple as that. It's amazing that everytime we have a decent win and there's nothing else to moan about it becomes dig out CP time.

If I had the time to make a list of everybody I hate in the world. Chrissy would be at the bottom of it. A great man and servant to the club. Of course I want us to stuff Huddersfield, but I will clap him and so will most right thinking non bitter fans. Whatever your views of him as a manager, he does not deserve the vitriol he gets from a small minority. We are better than that surely.

Sorry your getting sick of the bitterness sadie but I have some bad news for you - people are entitled to feel that way so you be as sick as you want because in MY opinion Chris Powell is a hopeless manager and and what he did at Brammal Lane was an insult to the name of Charlton Athletic. I am undecided on whether to come next week or make the sentimental journey to Cardiff the week after. If it's next week he will get both barrels from me for cheating Charlton fans out of a visit to Wembley for the FA Cup semi-finals not to mention wasting my time that and Money for nothing on that dark Sunday. In saying that he is not worth sacrificing a trip to Cardiff for, to me he is a nothing. By the way sadie blaming Duchatelet for the defeat in Sheffield and not Powell is a joke, no offence but are you really that blinkered?

I wasn't at that game at Brammel Lane, so i have to defer to your opinion of what happened that day. However, i think it is widely acknowledged by most reasonable Charlton fans, that Chris Powell got the sack because he would not do RD's bidding and picked the team of his own choice, not Roland's. I would have expected that to to please most Charlton fans, clearly not you though. I don't believe Powell was above criticism and (if he had exceptional hearing) he would have heard some from me. His use (or non-use) of subs. was pathetic at times. Sometimes his team selection was baffling. However, overall I think CP did his best for CAFC and deserved better support from RD with less interference. What happened, happened. Riga came in and saved us. CP moved on and so should all of us.

I think you will find that being bottom of the league played a huge part in it and rightly so. Has Powell moved on? Huddersfield are not pulling up any tree's and a majority of their fans don't rate him either.

I think you will find that being bottom of the league played a huge part in it and rightly so. Of course it did. But there is an opinion that the constant interference in team selection damaged not only Powell's management but team morale too. Just one example being our goalkeeper situation. How must they have felt when RD forced comedy keeper Thuram into the team?Has Powell moved on? Huddersfield are not pulling up any tree's and a majority of their fans don't rate him either. Clearly Powell HAS moved on. He's at Huddersfield .............Whether the fans of that team rate him or not, i have no idea.

I find this whole having a go at CP thing pathetic. Treat it as it was. He was a very good and loyal player for us, a manger who built a team to get us out of League 1 when others had failed, someone who made mistakes in the Championship and paid the price. He has moved on and so should we. But I don't have an everlasting bitterness and I don't hate him. Jimmy Seed made mistakes when we were relegated in 1957 but I don't forever hold it against him. It was a football match in Sheffield for goodness sake, it wasn't as if he killed one of your family. Then you would hate someone and feel bitter against them. Get things into prospective.

Please don't tell me how or what to feel, I appreciate your opinion but don't try and change mine, he is the most boring, inept joke of a manager I have ever come across in football..

I don't think people hate him essexaddick, I think they hate the sentimental hysteria around him that has been been built up by some sections of the Charlton support. Without this hysteria I think we would have welcomed him back with generous applause and just got on with the game.
The whole SCP business is quite pathetic, cringeworthy and completely out of hand.
Powell was a good player, a really good player and I'll never forget that.

Reams, I respect your opinion, but I'm sure we could both name 50 managers now who are more pathetic, starting with Mr Dowie. It baffles me how anyone can feel more than slight annoyance towards a bloke who won us a trophy, got us to 9th in the Championship and then had one dire season.
