SLs loss is our financial gain. So much for the G21 that our best players will be shipped off to Liege

What a waste of a career!
Ezekiel has been poorly advised, Qatar ffs!
All about the money I suppose

Standard leige have raised £20m so far in selling players but might lose out on champions league money if they don't win 2nd leg.

Standard will not win in Greece mate, not a chance. A scoring draw is their only hope IMHO.

Interesting tweet
John Chapman @belgofoot · 40m Question for FIFA rules experts: Talk of Ezekiel being loaned to European club! How? For Qatari nationality, he must live there for 5 years?
Wonder if RD has put in a clause in his sale to loan him to us?

The Quatari league runs from mid September to April Al so not sure how or how they would insist on a loan. I do find this very odd though because with him in the side for the second leg next week they still have a chance of qualifying for the CL, without him it's game over. Why have Liege let him go in between legs? The new season in Quatar is 7 weeks away why let him go now? This was him after last night's game, you don't throw your shirt to the fans then come back on loan a week later so if he does go out on loan, it won't be back to them.

Forget that Al, Ezekiel would have joined his new Al Arabi team mates in Nuremburg today on their pre-season tour of Germany with his new club. There is a Amweh Izakail on the players list which must be him as there is no other footballer with that name. www.alarabi.qa/singlenews.php?newstype=5&id=3876

As Pete has said on the rumours thread a newspaper article is claiming that we are interested in Tours striker Andy Delort. I have been saying that I feel we would bring in players from France, Belgium and Holland and also mentioned in t at the start of this thread that Delort is a player who Standard were and are still chasing. www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2014/andy-delort-is-a-wanted-man/

He is a good striker to be fair and was left out of the Tours squad last night when they beat Cretail 4 - 2. Standard Liege wanted him to replace Batshuayi but their original bid was turned down so they have gone back with another but German clubs also want him as do Leicester, Southampton and Norwich who are in for another striker after telling Becchio he can go and allowing Van Wolfswinkel talk to St Etienne. One of them could be replaced by Ostersunds FK striker Modou Barrow. Delort is far too good for the French second division so he will leave very soon, whether it's to us we'll have to wait and see, it all depends on whether he liked what he saw when he was shown around yesterday Personal terms are not a problem as they match what he is looking for however other clubs are sniffing around who could easily offer more. I watched a lot of second division French football last season as it was a good league to have a bet on and he always impressed me when I watched the Tours games, he is instinctive and very often shoots on sight of goal. Another striker I noticed over there last season was Mathieu Duhamel of Caen but he's 30 years old but another very good finisher all the same. Metz had a lad up top too his name escapes me but both they and Caen got promoted while Tours faded to finish just above mid table so it shows how well Delort did.

Standard are set to sign Jeff Louis should. The 21-year-old international from Haiti will cost between €1.5 and €2 million and comes from French club AS Nancy.
Proof there that clearly we are looking at the French market.

Standard leige get £4.3m for mangala from Man City.over £21.6m for Roland with all the players leaving SL.

That must be a sell on clause then because Mangala began his career with Standard Liege in 2008, winning the league in his first season, before joining Porto in 2011.

The sell on clause means that actually Liege will only get £1.1m.

They have lost 2 games already this season from 4 and Joeri I think I am right when I say that last year they went 13 games unbeaten at the beginning of the season.
They are in a bit of a mess at the moment.

They are in a bit of a mess at the moment. That's correct, and above all, it's the rotating stuff that Luzon serves that's going to kill him. Last year he played with a b-team in all European matches, stating that the focus was on the league. This year he's saying that the CL is his main target, and he doesn't play his best team in the league... Although the team is by far not the team that it's going to be by the end of august, it's not the way to play, you can change one or two players, but the spine of the team should remain intact. Above that, you don't do the youngsters any favors with dropping them into a team that's not unto the job Luzon probably tries to put pressure on RD with selections like these to get players in, but I think he signed his resignation with it today... RD is always trying to get the best deal he can, and the best deals are made under pressure, so close to the closing of the transfer market

Another way to look at it is that finishing clear top after 30 games did them no favours last season because they subsequently drew or lost most of their play-off games... So why finish top when third or even fifth gets you into the play-offs? But the fans can't be happy with results unless their champions league run is the thing that counts right now? Duchatelet doesn't sack that many coaches...Riga walked from Liege to take up the Qatar offer and was only on a short term deal with us...as far as I know Powell was the only coach sacked in the network last season... and Peeters is only on a one year deal... So perhaps Luzon is simply following a plan after they have sold so many over the summer? Or maybe he goes if league form slumps?
