I’ve got to say I’m amazed at people wanting to move Jones on. He’s made mistakes (not that many) and that was terrible yesterday but he’s head and shoulders over anyone we’ve had in recent years. I’d definitely back the geezer to get it right. That being said, big changes are needed going forward in approach or personnel, or both! I agree. Based on our transfer budget, we'd only be able to afford some cheap no-hoper anyway. We have a very limited squad in terms of ability - there aren't many coaches at this level who will get more out of them.

On the flip side I don't want him making eyes at Cardiff,I believe he's started something here, and I want him to stay 100% committed. Hopefully they don't come calling.

I was expecting us to kick on by now but it’s just not improving at all. He doesn’t seem to know how to get us working in attack. It’s very concerning to me as he doesn’t seem to have a plan B. From what I can tell his tactics are to be fitter and more aggressive than the other team. That’s not going to be enough to get top 6 even with a solid defence. plus it’s not going to get people through the gates! Horrendous viewing. I was unimpressed with the Ahadme signing and so far he’s looked more of a work horse than anything. Godden and Leaburn have to be our starting forwards when fit. We all knew we didn’t get enough signings in the midfield. I don’t agree with the whole “we don’t want to stop academy player progress” by signing players in those positions. If they are good enough then they will play. I feel like we’ve hamstrung ourselves. I really don’t get it from our owners. They know they only make a return if we get promoted. How about we show some ambition? Actually buy players which other teams would want.

It’s hard to overlook the consensus among fans regarding the urgent need for creative midfielders during the transfer window. Despite nearly everyone advocating for this, Jones opted for A. Campbell and Docherty, which feels like a missed opportunity. Furthermore, his decision to bring in Ahadme, only to consistently deploy him with his back to goal within a system that clearly doesn't suit his strengths, is baffling. A quick search of Ahadme’s previous goals reveals that he thrives on crosses and good wing play, yet our attacking strategy seems to be stifling that potential. Our attacking threat was supposed to come from the wingbacks, but when the midfield is practically nonexistent, that threat becomes easily manageable for opposing defenses, as we've seen play out this season. The fact that Jones has been sacked from both Southampton and Stoke speaks volumes, especially considering the overwhelming feedback from fans of both clubs, who labeled his style of football as atrocious. In the seven games we've played this season, the only thing I've witnessed is, frankly, atrocious football. It’s going to take a significant turnaround for Jones to change my mind and earn my support.

Lots on here had identified the lack of creativity as an issue. I must admit I was not one of them. The way I see it, at this level you’d be hard pushed to get hold of a player with a decent football brain who’d warrant a place in the line up for his cutting edge alone. I always look back on successful midfields set ups we’ve had as a comparison, Kinsella and Jones? Dale Stephens and Danny Holland? Pratley and Cullen? Lot of hard work and endeavour but don’t really see and match winners in there. Think we’ve got some decent midfielders who are just not performing.

I have been going on and on previously about your last two paragraphs…..the vast majority of us knew we hadn’t recruited a promotion chasing side……and NJ kept going on about how well he had been supported in the window i just don’t understand the reasons behind the owners buying us and then not fully going for it to fund a promotion chasing side…..I wasn’t expecting a Birmingham or a Ipswich even but when we have to offload players half way through the window to fund more players coming in you seriously how to wonder what is going on…..Are the owners being told the budget provided will get us up or is it case of this the budget get on with it…..It felt like Jones had to go cap in hand for more dough just to get Potts and Hylton in on short term contracts…. I have zero interest In the club funding a bloody five a side football pitch in the car park I would rather have us brought in a quality number 10…. The owners will only get a return if they create the same or similar buzz to what is going on at Birmingham and Wrexham with full houses every week and their teams going up through the leagues…..I can see the attendances falling off big time at the Valley after having to watch that hoofball rubbish that went on yesterday

And our set piece attacking threat is surfacing now after disappearing completely last season. Being fit and organising our press is a major change too! But our midfield options aren't good enough plus we're playing far too many defensive players at kick-off. With Miles Leaburn back plus Tyreece Campbell playing well on the wing, perhaps we should look at three up front? As for Jones being shortlisted for Cardiff or even being offered, it's hard tobknow how that will play out. All I'd say is that whoever is manager in January needs the budget to improve midfield... But the owners may be as confused as us fans in terms of what's going on.

The only good thing is that I think Edward’s and Ramsay could play fullbacks in a 4 at the back. Outside of that we have Campbell as the only really wide man. Our midfield is a team of work horses. Not sure how you change that part up.

As ever, I'd wait for another 5-8 games, especially given the imminent return of Edwards and Leaburn. During October we might watch the games listen to what the club says, and discuss whether there's any further progress, or not.

Again we have had massive and unfair reaction .. players that when we signed everyone called them vast improvement , finally quality players coming in , one average game which was more to do with the other teams tactics then the players having bad game suddenly these players are the worst we seen etc etc .. we are miles ahead where most of us expected to be after 6 games , it’s very early days in the 4 year plan anyone with any sense understands we are still two windows away from having a top 2 team and more important a team that will not only go up but stay up that’s most important .. We are good enough to get top 6 then who knows but as long at the end of season we have an improvement on the pitch then we are moving in the right direction .. at the moment we have seen vast improvement .

We need further recruitment 100%. I hope we can make it work with what we have, but losing that belief every game. 3. 🤷🏼♂️ End of October will tell me where we are for the season. We play so many games in October. A real test of squad depth for everyone.

The problem with changing the formation is that Nathan has clearly committed to 352 with his recruitment. It’s not that easy to change it up with our forward options. Ahadme on his own up front is just a horror movie in the making. The only good thing is that I think Edward’s and Ramsay could play fullbacks in a 4 at the back. During October we might watch the games listen to what the club says, and discuss whether there's any further progress, or not. You are right, we have to wait to see what happens because it is clear that those running the club don’t give a sh*t what the fans think. Methven, in particular, talks about the fans as though they are thick luddites that should do as they are told. However the speed at which decisions are made, (made worse by ‘waiting another five games’ and then ‘another five’, and then ‘another five’…) is that by the time anyone considers if it’s working it will be too late to change direction this season. That, probably, works for a large company in a different industry but not at a football club where it is much more dynamic in terms of paying ‘customers’. I don’t know what the attendance was but I don’t remember seeing the West Stand as empty (for a league game) as it was on Saturday. If we continue with this horrible football and we are beaten at home by both Birmingham and Wrexham, especially if one of them is a bit of a hammering, which I think is more than possible, the fans could give up coming. That hits the income, immediately, and makes it much harder to convince fans to buy season tickets next summer. I’ve said all along that playing crappy football and winning is, just about, ok but crappy football and losing is a very, very hard sell when fans can decide to get their football fix watching, any, of the half a dozen Premier Legaue/Champions League games on the tele each week. We look like a side that will, with a little luck, scrape past the poorer sides, in this division, 1-0 but will come up short against the better sides. The question (which defines our season) is how we will do against the mid-table teams. If we can scrape a 1-0 against them then we might just be able to hang on to the coat tails of the top six, if not then we could be playing in front of less than 10k fans come April. It’s not made any easier by it being so damn hard to find a parking space around The Valley - something that hasn’t been helped by the club putting a tacky fan zone on the car park. I have felt more optimistic this season choosing to believe that the scrappy wins were more indicative of our seasons prospects, and the defeat at Reading, and the draw at home to Rotherham, were outliers. However, it is becoming more and more difficult to continue to believe that. I suspect that we will, all, feel less optimistic about the season ahead after the next 5-8 games, sadly.

The attendance was declared at 14,140 which is close to the average this season of 14,300. That's some 800 up on last season. But there are still empty parts of the ground and we still need another 2,000 to roll up, so as to build the atmosphere and revenue. Getting a "fix" on the tele or via stream just isn't the same as being there, but how can the club attract more fans? We currently have a manager who in turn is accountable to the SMT and investors. Eight months is not a long time although that's the average tenure of a CAFC manager these days! What's confusing is that he's taken to starting every game with very few attacking players in the side, but then introducing others later on who obviously make for a far more attractive team in the second half. Let's hope that all changes with Miles Leaburn now becoming available, as well as Edwards in for Small. For sure we have to wait until the next window to see any changes in the squad. But we can be sure that fans will voice their opininions on social media and message boards as the results roll in. Two away games before Brum come to town and give us a footballing lesson!

You don't get it mate. Anyone brought up near Cardiff would want to manage them especially when they are his boyhood team.. It's not the same club as I was involved with, but they are still a draw and a huge one to NJ. Bulot has been sacked today and NJ will be in the frame I can assure you. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cvgw152jg2loI can’t see it happening myself. I doubt they’d be interested in him Agreed there is better and cheaper options out there although because of his background he will be under consideration.

As the jury is still out at Charlton it could be argued that Nathan Jones has only been successful at one of the four clubs he has managed. That would be a bit of a gamble for Cardiff to make for a manager that would require some serious compensation.

Jones did well to keep us up last season but our current league position makes us look better than we are, particularly if teams below us get points from their game in hand. His recruitment since Ramsey has been so bad I am beginning to think that if we had just kept May and only added Edwards, Mitchell and Mannion to the squad we wouldn't be any worse off. In fact I would argue last season's football under Jones was better than what it is now so watching games for us fans has become more tedious, which I didn't think possible.

Methven knows that fans of most football clubs just want owners who will throw millions at the club like Birmingham's are doing now to "buy" success and you can see why - it is how other clubs have become successful. And in our case, is the reason why we welcomed rich owners over Sandgaard who didn't have the funds to fulfil our dreams (and possibly his own).
This attitude of fans is particularly prominent at clubs with recent runs in the Premier League or at a higher level, so obviously was the issue at Sunderland when he was there, and also potentially at Bolton Wanderers. For a while Wigan felt the Premier League was their place or at least the Championship, and we've seen them have a rollercoaster ride with owners pushing in money they didn't have and then running into financial trouble.
Most of the fans who are hoping that Manchester City will get in trouble for breaking whatever rules are jealous that the big money went to that club and not their own. The simple matter is that before the big money came in, Manchester City were at best a mid-table Premier League team always in the shadow of their near rivals. A number of years up there among the big teams, winning 8 titles plus a Champions League along the way has given them the taste of glory that I don't begrudge them, but it's come to the stage where they are too dominant, winning 4 in a row, and I'd like to see them knocked off the perch, just like I did with Manchester United and Liverpool before them when they won far too much.
Incidentally, the teams that finished behind them when they won their title was always one of Manchester United, Liverpool or Arsenal, who have won enough titles themselves. If we're going to strip them of a league title then how about 1937? After all, we've never won one, and it would be nice for them to think of us. Ok, I'm sure that Manchester City team didn't break any rules.

Now, I’ve only watched on game “live”, Saturday plus a few via Sky. So in a way I find it difficult to be critical of events and personnel given my lack of viewing experience of the team plus my enforced absence due to ill health (sorry to bore by repeating myself, just doing so for context).
Anyway - in so far as this thread is concerned, when Jones was appointed I must say I was pleased. I hoped, and expected, that a young coach with experience elsewhere at a higher level, and with a promotion on his CV, would be an upgrade on what we’d had before. I also thought, and this is where my lack of knowledge regarding football matters lets me down, I thought we would play a more modern style of football, on the deck, and that in the main the long ball hoof it up to the lone striker would be abandoned and only used occasionally. In essence, I had hoped for football that is pleasing on the eye - entertaining, but none the less structured to get results and ultimately promotion.
I didn’t enjoy Saturday at all. And even if we’d snatched a draw I would have felt the same. If what was on display against Blackpool was an example of the way Jones wants his teams to play fair enough. But for this fan of many years “Jones ball” simply doesn’t get the juices flowing, and if he’s lured to Cardiff, personally I wouldn’t be too bothered. However, such a move would yet again leave the club searching for another coach mid season etc, etc.
Just to top things off - Jones is a very experience coach and there’s no reason to think he can’t get a tune out of the squad and after all we’re only seven games into the season. Maybe it just depends on whether Cardiff come calling and whether the lure of managing his home town club overrides everything else (and if he’s got a release clause in his contract).
Apologies for rambling, just my scrambled thoughts👍🏻
