I believe Adhadme will end up being the fall guy. While I admire his work rate, it’s expected of a Charlton player. However, his weaknesses, such as a lack of pace, poor hold-up play, and weak passing, limit his effectiveness. His strength lies in heading, as most of his goals come from crosses into the box. In our current system, he becomes almost redundant unless Jones decides to play with wingers, which seems unlikely.
This raises the question: why did we sign him? There must have been better alternatives available that align with Jones’s tactical approach. Without quality crosses, Adhadme risks appearing ineffective, and continuing to play him could further damage his already fragile confidence. It may be best to drop him before any irreversible harm is done.

This guy is crap , never looks like scoring . Not that great in the air considering his size . Hopefully Leaburn will be back in a few weeks .

We need to take at look who he's paired with as well, I feel he'll come good playing with a proper striker, Miles, Chucks or Godden.
Said it yesterday, we needed another striker, Kanu and Campbell won't get us goals.

Isn't the point of Ahadme (who we basically spent the May money on, when you factor in add-ons on both sides, so is our current lead striker) is to bash defenders about a bit so an experienced hard running poacher can nab a goal from any gaps/balls down etc. Surely Ahadme-Godden was therefore our expected starting two (until Miles is back in October) so I don't get why they ain't playing together.

I’m not sure we’re ever going to play to his strengths. Playing TC next to him just makes it worse though. Godden playing there would work better for me. TC has a LOT to learn. We don’t really have the time to teach him imo. Not if we want to do anything this year.

This forum has reached a new low tonight.
He isn't being played the way he should be. That is the fault of the manager and his system.
He didn't want May in his side and this is what this is all about.
If people want to have a go at anyone try pointing the finger in the direction of the manager, Andy Scott and Jim Rodwell who is a bigger bullshitter than Sandgaard and Duchatelet for that matter.
Ahadme is 23 and being asked to do a job that does not play to his strengths. He is like a fish out of water.
One of these days Charlton fans might get it.
Most fans loved Alfie May, thought he was Maradona. Personally I though that other than his goals he the rest of his game wasn't much to write home about.
I'm sure you all have jobs you are good at. How would you feel having an interview elsewhere and signing for a bigger company who would like to use your skills but once you get there they want you do work in an entirely different way.
I don't like the press, I don't like owners who shaft the manager and I'm not that keen on manager's playing players out of position.
Not one person has criticed TC yet this season. The idea that they are trying to convert an average footballer at best into a striker is a fucking joke but because he's a kid we shouldn't say anything. He is a waste of space.

The idea that they are trying to convert an average footballer at best into a striker is a fucking joke but because he's a kid we shouldn't say anything. He is a waste of space. There's much to unpack there... First and foremost we have nine points from four games in August. That's six more than 2023 which incidentally had five league games. Second, the owners / investors are abroad, as per Duchatelet and Sandgaard. But they have a fully visible, qualified, accountable executive AND football management in SE7. And finally, what's the bar for success? Are we talking play-offs OR challenging for automatic promotion? 2018/19 was the last time the club delivered to a top six budget! Not disagreeing with anybody's assessment of individual players... just my choice to wait a few days to assess what the team should look like for Rotherham next Saturday. Nathan Jones is obviously passionate, and he absolutely needs to assess and deliver next weekend. Interesting times!

I just don't like fans picking on a 23 year old lad in his first season with us and using him as a scapegoat. Not just here but everywhere.
How many other players have joined us down the years and gone backwards within a month. He's a good player being totally misused.
We have four widemen at the club, none of whom can cross a ball. That's a much bigger problem for me.

But has Ahadme shown that his skill is to head the ball from these crosses if they ever arrive? From what I've seen of his heading ability I somewhat doubt that.

I have the same opinion on Adhadme as I did on Coventry when fans were piling into him last season……Give the fella a bit of time and some decent service and we will see the real player not at present where he is feeding off 60 yard bombs on his own with no real partner beside him to work with…. I don’t think we have put one quality cross in for him to attack in four games now….

It’s not his fault but it needs to change if we want him to score.

Yesterday we were growing into the game until Reading scored a worldly and then we lost our shape as we, desperately, tried to get an equaliser. The way we played and Ahadme’s contribution this season is going to get us close to where we need to be. He runs and runs and I don’t think any of our strikers are going to get a lot of goals but I don’t think we are going to concede as many as last season. I like him, I think he is doing well, but his ‘job’ for us this season is going to be different from the ‘job’ he did for Cambridge last season.

Ahadme seems to be required to be the kind of target man who receives the ball with his back to goal with defenders pressing him close. I am not sure he is much good at that. However his game might suit a classic cross from out wide to get headers in. Our unconvincing set pieces have not seemed to provide decent crosses. If Godden is picked instead of Ahadme he is not going to be a target man type, Leaburn is probably at least a month away, and Aneke is a huge risk to start a game.

I am sure Adhadme will improve and it is clear he is not getting the service he needs. It is also evident Campbell should not partner him up front, it just doesn't work. Whilst I don't want to get on the lads back after 4 games I am concerned at his lack of pace and his hold up play is not very good either, and neither of those attributes in which he is lacking are down to the service he isn't getting. I would like to see him start with Godden in our next game and perhaps we can then better judge him with an actual striker partnering him.

The table is a truer account, as are the xG and other stats. This season we appear to have shut up shop at the back but it's too early to confirm. Similarly our attacking threat isn't good enough, but plenty of time to improve on that.

I'm with you on this, we are a regular striker short, one who has all the attributes you need in a successful side. That man is Leaburn but it's ridiculous that we are now relying on him to hit the ground running and avoid injury for us to have any say in the promotion shake up come May. Don't believe what anyone tells you. This last transfer window was ok, but nothing special. You have to spend money to bring in good players.

If, as seems likely, given what the man himself said about hie relationship with Jones, Alfie May didn't fit into the style of play that NJ wants, then presumably Ahadme was recruited because he does fit that style. Most comments here suggest that people feel that Ahadme needs to have crosses in order to score goals,. If that is true and NJ recruited him for the purpose of scoring goals why does NJ's style of play not include providing him with those crosses? Some people seem to be content that Ahadme runs around a lot hoping to tire the opposition before we bring on some crack strikers to bang the goals in. There have also been comments that all May provided was goals and that Ahadme was going to provide opportunities for goals to come from elsewhere in the team. Doesn't look as if it's working very well. Unlike most, I was not much impressed with our first two games, despite them being (fortunate) wins. Only the Bolton game gave me hope, and that fragile thing was somewhat crushed by yesterday's performance

Don’t forget that TC scored four in pre-season.
His strike partner was Kanu when he scored three of these.

Big Yes .. been excellent so far his work rate and closing down ( which caused the first goal v Bolton ) .. and he created two good chances on saturday not his fault they were not taken .
He not really had his planned partner with him yet hopefully Godden will start in our next game
Some fans think because a player plays up top he has to score 2/3 goals every week …. Short memories one of the Charlton icons Mr Carl Leaburn job was exactly the same cause problems for defence and create chances .
Think people are looking at the wrong person TC on Saturday at fault for first goal and missed two very good opportunities how many chances has Ahadme had to miss … none

Whilst Campbell is not a natural striker he is getting chances to miss however Adhadme who is a natural striker isn't getting a sniff. Now I agree that isn't all his fault but if the main talking point about him in four games is a bit of closing down, which is part of his job, then it doesn't look good. Yes he does a lot of running around, which is great, but never with the ball at his feet. Hoping our best partnership will be Leaburn and Godden, and for me a lot is now on Leaburns shoulders.

His heading and ability to hold up the ball have both been negligible.

Some people haven't got the balls to criticise other players who have been equally inneffective just because they are youngsters so what do they do, pick on a 23-year old just because in their heads it's his fault that he replaced Alfie May.
Try turning your frustrations on the real problem here, the owners who have not given NJ enough money.
