Would love it to be true but I just can’t see it. No1 the injury No2 He is one of Aberdeens best players. To be fair, Clarkson isn't the most outlandish of the rumours. That would be Mihaly Kata. I'd love to sign him (and we could get him a work permit via our remaining ESC slot since Hungary are ranked in the top 50 in FIFA so he only needs to have played one senior international game - he's played three - rather than the 5+ Dixon from non-top 50 Jamaica needed) but... - He's 22 and has broken into the senior squad of a major (#30-ish in FIFA) international team. - He's the captain of one of the teams battling for the Hungarian top division title (they were top, now second). - The likes of Southampton and Rangers have been sniffing around. - The transfer fee is expected to be in the region of £1.5m. I can tell you now that if Charlton do somehow sign Kata it would be the signing of the summer across the whole of L1. There's no way I can see it happening tbh. I reckon our midfield signing will be one of the Port Vale lads: Ben Garrity or Ethan Chislett (each of whom PV fans reckon will cost a more feasible 300k-ish). If we are losing both Fraser and Taylor before the window shuts would that not potentially mean we will bring in two more midfielders because at present we only really have Anderson as back up…….and Edun at a push…….. We are only a couple of injuries away from having Anderson and Edun in our midfield engine room which is a worry?

We are only a couple of injuries away from having Anderson and Edun in our midfield engine room which is a worry? I would hope so. Assuming two players per position, something like: DM: Coventry | New DM (Kata hopefully if we can find £1.5m) CM: Docherty | Anderson AM: Berry | New AM (someone like Chislett or Wing) Defence wise, with Ness (perm) and Asiimwe (loan) now gone, even Edun might be surplus to requirements in terms of needing two players per slot: RWB: Ramsay | Watson RCB: A Mitchell | REG CB: Jones | Z Mitchell LCB: Gillsephey | Potts (who will surely sign soon now Ness has left) LWB: Edwards | Small I guess there might be space for Edun as an extra utility player but he'd be quite far down the pecking order. In terms of forwards, we will end up with a lot more than four (two per position) simply because you need more 'game changers' (subs) up front, plus winger options and so on. Still a much smaller squad than last season.

For people wanting to keep track of the money we get in this window for former players being transferred (Gomez being the big potential payday there) thus far it amounts to something in the region of:
£100k from Mason Burstow (25% sell on on the difference between £1.6m and £2m)
£90k from Conor Gallagher (solidarity payments due as it's an international move, these work out at 0.25% of the transfer fee for each season where the player turned 12-15, 0.5% of the fee for each year they turned 16-23, loan clubs will get money as they're who the player trained with during that season, so we share with Swansea the £180k, 0.5% of the £36m transfer fee, for his age 20 season)
That's enough for two Josh Edwardses so far!

In terms of forwards, we will end up with a lot more than four (two per position) simply because you need more 'game changers' (subs) up front, plus winger options and so on. Still a much smaller squad than last season. It is a much smaller squad than last season. And also appears far less random! For we've seen the Matchday 18 for two games and can see both the system and who plays how many minutes. In other words those who haven't featured will be kicking their heels unless somebody is injured or they go out on loan. The Ness decision to keep him and then sell him on looks confusing until we consider the potential sell on fee should he come good at Notts County. And the fact that it's the right message for those coming through the Academy - players aren't just dumped and CAFC look to loan or sell on to lower leagues so that they can complete their development, even if not considered good enough for a top six League One side. And that's the important thing - we now have a manager making these decisions who has succeeded at this level in the past AND has a strong view as to who was good enough from the squad he inherited. Plus has acquired six or seven players over the summer. Yes, we might acquire one or two more - most importantly we are yet to see how Leaburn will play upon his return. And whether our new press which works can be converted into decent, consistent attacking play. To this end we should expect an attacking midfielder to arrive as we are developing this side to our game and we are also light in terms of midfield numbers. But I wouldn't be surprised if some additions are deferred until January to give a chance for the side to develop, AND for commercial revenues to grow. As Jones states, it's hard to judge accurately where we are until we've seen ten games - for ourselves and the rest of the league. But we should all be very surprised if he doesn't manage to convert a side that was the 10th best last season (during his time in charge) into a genuine top six contender. Let's see where we are mid October!

I didn’t realise that we’d get money from the Gallagher transfer as he was a loanee, but £90k is still a big chunk of wonga…. The Mustow one is a strange one. My reasoning is that at the time of his transfer Sandgaard stated that it represented a good deal for the Club, so I thought it would be more than £100k, but perhaps that it reflects the fact that career wise, he’s not kicked on, and I can’t see this changing at Hull either

If we can sign 4 "elite" players - then I think Top 6 is on the cards.
1 - CB to compete with Gillespey - You'd assume Potts.
2 - Number 8/10 to compete at the sharp end of the midfield 3. I worry that breaking teams down might be an issue.
3 - Electric winger, so we can switch to a 4-3--3 if required. Is Dixon ready or too raw?
4 - First Choice GK. Mannion has done well, but I feel we need more experience.
To Leave - Fraser, Edun, Ness (gone), Asimwee (loan).

Think Taylor will go rather than Edun, especially now Edwards is out injured as he can cover Small as well as running around in the middle of the park……..also I think Edun is on decent dough which makes players hard to offload……

I guess Jones is thinking that Doherty could drop into Coventry's role as cover there and therefore doesn't need Taylor.
Fraser won't get a sniff. He's not a Jones-type player. Lightweight and lazy.

I'm not doubting this but, surely, the Premier League clubs would include some kind of waver for the solidarity payments - especially when we only pay a small percentage of their wages while they are with us? For example, if I were Chelsea I would insist that the solidarity payments are payable as a loan fee in the event that they sell the player later on, and/or I would make the wages due in full with the difference (between what the player earns and what we pay) held over as an interest free loan payable if we are entitled to any solidarity payments. If the lower league club don't agree to this then Chelsea will just loan the player to someone else. It does seem a bit cheeky that we get the benefit of a player for a year that costs us nothing (or very little) in exchange for giving him games then we expect to be paid for giving him games if he develops.

Would very much doubt it……fringe league one player….……50k at a best guess Was funny though hearing NJ big him up at the time when the new one year contract was finalised…….when the plan was obviously to sell him and get a small fee🤣🤣 Ness for me didnt seem the same player when he came back from that injury……..

It's only a smaller squad though because we have no loans.
I still think it's a mistake not to have at least one or two in. I know you want your own players but the right one's do make one he'll of a difference. Cullen and Bielik worked wonders for us.

If our Academy players (which the SLT seem worried about) are good enough then they will be ahead of the loans, surely. We shouldn't tie ourselves to the Academy players fortunes. We all know some don't hit their potential. It's up to them to make the step up and perform concistently. If we just use them whatever as we lack other options and don't want to 'block' their progression then what does that teach them?

Club needs to realise you don’t always have the luxury of waiting to minimise risk. Can’t be too disappointed as I don’t know who the target was, but if they ended up in the champ. You’d expect they were pretty good for our level. We really do miss a lot of targets.

It does seem a bit cheeky that we get the benefit of a player for a year that costs us nothing (or very little) in exchange for giving him games then we expect to be paid for giving him games if he develops. I don’t think Chelsea would be able to circumvent it (although if any club would try to, you suspect it would be them). For starters it is FIFA who distribute the solidarity payments (they have a clearing house that does this) so Atletico Madrid give FIFA not Chelsea the £1.8m (5% of 36m transfer fee) which FIFA distributes based on the ‘player passport’ of which clubs Conor was training at during ages 12-23. In Gallagher’s case, Chelsea get most of this money (£1.26m), Palace and West Brom get 180k each, Charlton and Swansea (split season) get 90k each. Presumably the possibility of future solidarity payments factors into loan fees charged (as you hint at). Bear in mind we are potentially losing out on possible solidarity money every time we send our own young players out on loan, so it’s swings and roundabouts - a side effect of players being improved by loan moves and more playing time. Bear in mind also that solidarity payments are a FIFA mechanism that only applies when players move country. Had Chelsea sold Gallagher to another PL team nobody would be getting any solidarity monies.

Seems to do the rounds every single transfer window. Released by Oxford after not featuring too often for them last season.

Why would we want a player released by a club in the same division as us last season?
He was nowhere near their side so why ours?

Mpanzu has been described as a "powerful" box-to-box midfielder with "endless energy". Central midfield is his natural position, but that he can also to play as a centre-back. Don't believe for a minute this will happen.

I know you can't say much, but did we/do we have genuine interest in Weirdu? Couple of Port Vale lads mentioned aswell? I like the thought of getting a player who feels they have something to prove at this level.
