I wonder if this means one of their 8 goalkeepers might be heading our way? Only plus surely the sell on will be given to Jones 🙈

"It’s true. Kata is wanted by Charlton Athletic but the English side are only looking at the Hungarian midfielder as a possible January transfer.
They will continue to scout him at MTK Budapest during the autumn.”
Perhaps he might be interested in signing a pre-contract agreement!!

Getting Jones in and not backing him and spending big on 2/3 players at least is crazy 🤦🏻♂️ Not sure he will put up with this lack of ambition and strategy for long

He chose the players as long as they didn't cost very much.

Considering we were in for nombe, Clarke Harris , colllins , this goalie that went to Celtic . I don’t understand why we’ve only really spent the money from May . They’ve not shown enough ambition for me , looked promising to start with but we won’t be going anywhere with players like campbell and Anderson in the starting lineup. How many of our starting eleven would make Birmingham or boltons. Very few if you ask me . If Jones gets top 6 then fair play because we are a few long term injuries away from having edun in midfield and watson in defence

It isn't bad, and we'll all be able to make comparisons to last season soon enough. We all want the club to add players, but surely we should also want the management to develop players AND the team? Looking forwards to watching Orient and Bolton games, then seeing if we bring in a couple of EPL loans.

If Jones gets top 6 then fair play because we are a few long term injuries away from having edun in midfield and watson in defence This all day long….was going to write a similar post but this sums it all up for me……we offload at least 15 players wages in the summer and bring in 7 yet the budget seems to have been blown……apart from the one out one in senario My question is why have these owners bought us? All well and good improving the medical science etc but its success on the pitch which is the number one priority for me, that is going to put new bums on seats at the Valley, more season ticket sales and create the buzz of fans like Birmingham, Wrexham and Stockport……. Do they really think a budget of 7 new players plus a load of academy kids who are plainly not good enough yet is going to get us challenging for promotion…..? I have my doubts on this…… I agree that we are still three quality first team starters short at present…..must admit it did make me laugh when Cawley said we weren’t in for him in this window…..what like a Hungarian international is going to wait until little old Charlton get some more dough available…😀

Last season has gone mate, it was a shocker and we are setting a very low bar if the target for success is to improve on our pathetic 16th position. We need three new players in positions we are lacking or playing kids who fill shirts but not my confidence in terms of getting any better. Somebody is seriously overeating them, has NJ really got full control? I would never rule out him being told he has to play them. They are trying anything and everything to raise money. Showcasing young kids to clearly try and sell them will be on the 'How to' list. They are in the side because the board, Rodwell especially is a bullshitter. Waitrose and Lidl's he said, wrong Jim, it's more like the soup kitchen in terms of outlay. This Hungarian player in January? Why? If we like him bloody sign him. Putting it off six months is pointless. He has a good first half of the season and then what happens? He goes to a far better club than what we are. I'm afraid choosing youngsters over seasoned pro's who really would make a difference is not a footballing decision.

There is no doubt that NJ’s coaching has improved the side defensively it’s just when we get the ball it seems to falter and result in a long diagonal hoof ball forward which would work better if we had Keiffer Moore and Jutkiewicz up top…..but we had 5ft 7 Campbell and Kanu…. I am hoping with the return of Edwards and Ramsay to the side on Saturday our wingbacks will push further up the pitch and increase our attacking options…

This season's season ST promotional drive went something like this:
Jim Rodwell, January 2024
“The Board and management are absolutely determined to mount a promotion challenge next season. Nothing less is acceptable “
Fans took him on face value and close on 8,000 ST'S were sold on the back of it.
Eight months later, the indication from the club is:
“We need outgoings before we can sign anyone”.
This isn't good enough. They have invested in NJ's track record but haven't matched it with pound notes.
Touching on the 8-8-8 bollocks again, the first eight are meant to be elite footballers. Is there such a thing in L1? If they are that good they would be playing at a higher level. Secondly who is elevating them in that bracket, Andy Scott? I know they classed Edun as such last season!
We haven't got eight elite players, we have 24 ranging from average, half decent and kids who aren't yet good enough. Five of the 24 by the way are on crock alert!
Cut the big ideas and buzz words Rodwell and deliver on what you said you would.

I would be interested to know who are considered to be our 8 elite league one players…..?
Maybe Jones, Mitchell, Coventry, Docherty, Adhadme, Godden, Edwards, Ramsay?…….would these all be considered elite?

I think we have had 2 plus a part window last summer? Other clubs have done it over a course of a couple of windows with the right investment…..Plymouth and Portsmouth spring to mind straightaway…… Pompey were a pretty bang average squad until their last summers recruitment drive and then went out with real intent early doors scooping up all their targets and went up with relative ease……Agreed this year it is a completely different ball game in league one with the standard of teams

He chose the players as long as they didn't cost very much. In that case we have been conned again. Tuesday we had 1 shot on target from the spot and 2 a Wigan. We then pinned our hopes on Aneke to rescue Tuesday. We spent a slice on Adhame. We have barely spent the Money from May's sale. Worse, still we lack a creative players, players who run at teams and any goal scorer of note.

Don't you have to be playing at an elite level of football to be classed as such? I can't remember the exact wording for the 'Elite 8' category, but it was essentially players who would be Top half L1 performers who could step up to the Championship. It wasn't saying they had to have played higher. Just that they feel they could make the step up. I'd say that list is pretty reasonable. Leaburn would fit in there for me as well. I think we have quality in the squad. I just think we are missing a few key players. Creativity is limited in this team. I will caveat that with the fact it's still early days for this team, but it does seem clear we are lacking the creativity to open teams up. My concern in the 8 8 8 model is the amount of Academy players being used as starters who aren't consistent/effective/good enough. They were supposed to supplement your team, not be the core of it.

That’s a shame, he looked very decent in pre season and has a forward pass on him…..I would have offloaded other midfield players either out on loan or sold and kept Taylor….but I don’t think he suits NJ’s style of play I think he will do well wherever he goes and at our loss…..good luck to him

Dixon is training with the first team at Sparrows Lane, gelling with the rest of the squad and settling in nicely.
The talent he has is there for all to see, pace to burn and not afraid to run at players.
Obviously he's a work in progress and we are working on various areas of his game where he is showing inexperience but he is responding to coaching and getting better each day.
Once the permit comes through he'll have a run out or two in the u21's to get him ready for the senior squad.
