Unfortunately not the same position. One is LEFT SIDE the other is RIGHT SIDE.

It's obvious we really need two playmaker's for midfield to give us some depth,I think that's the area it's vital to strengthen. Goalkeepers we are a bit light but Mannion looks OK, strikers currently don't exist, just hope Leaburn isn't long getting up to pace and Godden is fit for the weekend.

Does anyone think that Zach Mitchell did enough last night to warrant us not having a need for Potts. I did and would prefer it if we used that costing in a position where it's needed more. I thought he looked classy & confident.

The other little worry thing seems from talking before the game and after Jones seems was put under some pressure from the club for a cup run as could do with the revenue. I didn’t interpret that at all. He said what most managers would say and that was a cup run would be great for the club but we have bigger priorities with the league as we have a target for that. Nothing suggests we needed a cup run for revenue

The high press works well, we are looking to smother teams deep in their own half but I have two concerns.
The first is if opponents play their way out of it we are caught with too many players up the pitch while they counter attack
The other issue I see is that we have won the ball in these pressing passages of play but then have no end product.

I really liked our press yesterday, yes the quality wasn’t there on the final ball but we worked it well against a top side. Be interesting to see if against weaker sides! My concern is the midfield, I think we are lacking a player to get the ball moving forward and the drive at the defence.

Thankfully there aren’t too many teams with Birmingham’s quality on the ball in this league. But that press is such a hard thing to get right, you only need 1 player to fall asleep and any half decent opposition will make quick use of the overload created. The goals will come if we continue to force the turnovers high up the pitch.

If Dixon's visa isn't sorted before the window shuts, does this stop us signing him?

Would settle for one creative playmaker….really cant see us getting two if any at all….. My big concern was that constant 50 yard long diagonal from Gillesphey hoofed forward as soon as Brum applied their press……Which was going nowhere with Kanu and Campbell up top…..apart from it coming straight back at us…..If that is our main tactic for the season then it could be very painful to watch….

I'm a massive fan of Zach. The thing that sticks out for me, is his first touch is superb. However, I still think we should sign Potts, as he's left footed. There is another option for Zach though. When he first broke into the first team, he was used as a defensive midfielder. Yesterday, he seemed to be then only one comfortable running ouf of defence with the ball. Perhaps NJ has noticed this in training, and maybe the reason Taylor hasn't got on the bench?

Agree with Reams on the point of pressing .. have to say our defensive play has been excellent in the two opening games , the pressing and the work rate as been very good but I watched Anderson when he went forward to press the centre back he left gaping hole behind him .. which a team like Birmingham took advantage of especially when the Chinese player came on second half he looked a good player …. Berry and the two forwards should press high but Anderson needs to sit otherwise Coventry is left with 2/3 players running at him ..

Thought Berry was very rusty last night, hopefully with some game time his sharpness returns. Had a few really good opportunities to score early on. Promising that he’s in those positions though.

I agree with that. I just can't see which player we drop to accommodate him. Maybe he is going to be more of a sub that comes on later in games. It seems that we are building a system that defends first and presses high so that we don't have a role for a traditional CAM, which is what Berry seems to be.

Yep he will bring on Berry when we go behind and are chasing games as per last night……The back five and two defensive midfielders will be a feature of our make up….

Both Mitchell and Mannion are doing enough to calm requests / demands for more recruitment in these areas. The press is working but we're still not creating enough. We often win a throw or possession in their half but then proceed to play the ball backwards! Ideally Miles Leaburn will be available before the end of September so we're good upfront. Let's see how the midfield performs - ideally Jones, Scott and the SMT reach a consensus on what's needed AND that there's sufficient budget to secure real talent.

Charlton chase Hungarian talent By CHARLIE GORDON Charlton Athletic are interested in Hungarian international midfielder Mihaly Kata. Southampton assessed the 22-year-old in January but their interest has waned since gaining promotion to the Premier League. Several clubs have submitted offers to MTK Budapest this summer but none have met their valuation. Kata has banked well over a century of senior appearances and made his international bow with Hungary last year.

For those who are unaware MTK played at the stadium used in Escape to Victory.
It was their home ground before it was demolished and a new one was built on the same site.

From what I’ve researched he operates as a CDM predominantly. Assuming we are still interested in him.I would say this suggests Taylor out the door either on loan or permanent.

Berry looked like the only player remotely capable of scoring a goal for us last night…..Fella didn’t play that many games last season so he will need some more game time to get sharper….
