Astonished at how obsessed people on the other place are about trying to find a way for Dobson to bail out on his Hungary contract.
Luckily I have a solution.
People seem to be blaming Dobbo’s agents, Every Aspect Group, for the issue. They look like a fairly tinpot agency tbh, with only 20-odd players on their books (some Middlesborough centre half being the highest profile) so yes, let’s blame them if it makes us feel better…
..and let Every Aspect Group solve the problem.
How? Have the Hungarians actually met Dobbo? If so it was presumably only fleetingly. Why not send another player instead and make out it’s him?
Who? Well, there’s only one other Charlton player on Every Aspect Group’s books and that’s…
…Tennai Watson, who a large portion of our support seem to want us to get rid of in the summer anyway.
So all the agent needs to do is disguise Watson as Dobson (shouldn’t be too hard, they almost have the same surname anyway) and ship him off to Hungary instead.
I’ll leave the finer details to Every Aspect Group themselves and all I want for the idea is 10% of the agents’ cut of the signing fee.
Problem solved.
You’re welcome.

I have another solution to the fact that he has signed a contract with someone else.
Just let him leave and play for them.
Can we, all, stop obsessing about this now, maybe?

We need to find a (better) replacement who scores goals so we can move forward…it’s all very simple There's a consensus that we absolutely need to strengthen the spine of the side from Keeper through defence, midfield and strikers. There are ten players leaving in a month or two so let's bring in players who improve our side to the point they can deliver two points per game. So midfielders who can create, cross and score are what we need.

We need to find a (better) replacement who scores goals so we can move forward…it’s all very simple That's kind of the whole point I'm (via the medium of clumsy satire) making. A fan of the Hungarian club has today posted on CL that they'd agreed to pay us circa £400k to take Dobson in February and they will be wanting £1m+ to release him from the pre-contract. Both figures are of course ridiculous. They would have been paying us maybe £150k-ish for the Feb release and would want I'd guess £300k tops to release him. "But who could we get for cheaper" ask the Dobbo lickers with straight faces (whilst also ignoring the inflated salary GD would presumably now want). Just off the top of my head the following are out of contract (without having to pay a release fee) this summer: Lewis Bate Herbie Kane Idris El Mizouni Any of whom would be an upgrade on Dobbo imho. I just can't understand this obsession a large chunk of our fanbase have with keeping one of the players responsible for why we are in our current lowly predicament to begin with (he's the captain ffs)! I suspect these are the same sad people who might park across the street from the wife who divorced them five years ago's house, staring daily through a pair of binoculars for clues as to how to win her back. Give your heads a wobble lads. Let's move on. Dobson has.

Coventry can play in Dobson's role.
I keep banging on about Keillor-Dunn at Mansfield 20+ goals this season, highest scoring midfielder in the country. It's not rocket science.

Coventry can play in Dobson's role. I keep banging on about Keillor-Dunn at Mansfield 20+ goals this season, highest scoring midfielder in the country. It's not rocket science. Coventry is three years younger. With age, experience and better players surrounding him, he should* improve. Compared to when Sandgaard was running things 12 months ago, we have a plethora of experienced football people at the club who can all supply leads and connections into the mix this summer. Both the fans and the owners will require a system, players and coaching that delivers two points per game. Most of us won't know names or the costs but the experts at the club will have three months to take us to the next level. Now is the time to show the fans just how poor Sandgaard and ESI were over the last few years. Now is not the time for excuses! Having said all that, we can all show some class by thanking departing players for their services to CAFC. As Jones stated, the bar will be much higher this summer. Why blame individual players if those responsible for next season's squad decree that certain individuals don't cut it? *When stating "should" there are plenty of 23 year olds who don't kick on - time will tell.

I’m always amused by your attempts at humour weststandfruitloop Whatever you do for a living though, don’t quit in an attempt to be stand up comic or a writer of scripts for Dawn French, David Mitchell, Lee Mack or any other comedian. I have a sneaking suspicion it wouldn’t work out!! Re George Dobson, on the 1st July he will become a Fehérvár FC player. If Dobson decides he’d rather not move and tries to welch on the contract he’s signed, having enjoyed the protection and/or insurance cover it has provided him since he signed it, then Fehérvár will need to decide what to do about that. In effect, Dobson would be putting in a transfer request and one option for Fehérvár would be to refuse to cooperate, as many clubs do when players attempt to force a move. An alternative would be for Fehérvár to accede to Dobson’s request, but to insist that he moves to the highest bidder. Indeed, it’s not clear why the Hungarians would do anything else. He will be their player and if they conclude that forcing him to stay is likely to be counterproductive then they’d want to sell him for the highest fee possible. Those fans that appear desperate for Dobson to stay will need to hope not just that he wants to, but that nobody else wants him. I’m not convinced he’s good enough for the Championship, but if a club in the Championship wants him that’s where Fehérvár are likely to sell him.

I like Dobbo but he aint no kinsella or holland, he is a decent L1 player and no-one is irreplaceable, and that includes May. If NJ has his head screwed on, then he should be able to nominate a few names that may even be an upgrade. Dobbo's work rate, tackling, and breaking up play is excellent but we all know he is not the best in and around the box and lacks a bit of height and physicality.

Dobson was only bounced into the stupid Hungary move because he fell out with the Technical Director last summer over player bonuses. The Technical Director then spent 5/6 months trying to make clear at Sparrows Lane who “the boss” was ergo Dobson basically forced out.
Don’t people find it odd that the formerly garrulous Technical Director has never once publicly commented on the Dobson situation, and yet our actual *manager* has stated at least four times in public now that he’s a very good player that he wants to keep.
Who to believe on this - a handful of forum wiseacres who can’t be wrong on anything (what a visionary Lardiman turned out to be), and a flawed TD, or our skipper, talisman and rare 100 per center in this squad, plus Nathan Jones 😂
What I find interesting , as someone referenced Charlton Life views on Dobson, is that it’s not just Charlton Life
Twitter polls of CAFC fans, running into the many hundreds of votes, consistently show that our fanbase wants the club to keep George Dobson at all costs this Summer.

So much conjecture going mainly on the other forum about Dobson possibly wanting to stay and work with NJ………..We have heard nothing at all from Dobson at all on the subject so maybe the reasons for him leaving the club are still ongoing……The fella has signed to play for another club, regardless of the fact that NJ wants to continue working with him he is still under contract to play in Hungary next season, these are the facts as they stand….. As much I have enjoyed watching George throw tackles in, track runners and give 100% for the club he has been a shining light in a bang average league one side ,but just playing devils for a moment, do we think a promotion seeking club in league one would come in for him…..just a question I ask……..Would Pompey or Bolton come in for him when they players like Morley and Dempsey sitting on the bench who currently can’t even get a kick in their side at present…. I tend to bench mark against the best teams in the league and for us to compete at that level we need players at that quality at that level……..Proof will be in the eating in the summer, I previously would be loathe to let George go because I have doubts about our ability to replace him with better, but with NJ steering us now I think he will know what is required to get us to where we need to be
We shall see……

You would think NJ and Hart already have names in the frame for the middle of the park next season, I would hope and love us to go out quickly this summer and with intent to bag our number one targets straight away and not piss about waiting for players to pick which club will pay them the most money………It worked wonderfully well for Pompey this season

We are no longer in the market for a Kinsella or a Cullen.
We are a lower mid table League One team.
Based on performances seen from him so far, Coventry is not an upgrade on Dobson.
Nathan Jones is a far better judge of a player than all of us, and he wants the club to keep GD next season. Thats good enough.

In fact, I think we NEED better and more suited if we want to push on next season. Dobson has been here 3 years? Have we ever controlled the midfield in that time? Would I have liked to have kept Dobson? Yes.

It’s Nathan Jones summer transfer budget to do with as he sees fit - if he decides to spend a significant chunk of it in buying Dobson out of his Hungarian deal, I don’t think the vast majority of our fans would object. It’s not ideal, but letting him leave for nothing was rank stupidity given the circumstances.

Although NJ has mentioned before about what the fans love about Dobson is not what necessarily wants Dobson to do. I'd be surprised if NJ paid to sign Dobson, but agree letting him go on a free is a mistake.

Previously he wanted to stay if he was paid more than Charlton were willing to pay. As before this all comes down to money. If we can agree commercials he stays if we can’t he goes. We should only pay whatever is deemed proportionate to his talent. Just because he’s liked and good at this level is not reason to offer a blank cheque for him and his agent to fill out

All this talk of him wanting to stay, blah, blah, blah. He was offered a two year contract, on more money, at a time when the financial rules are going to throttle all players wages, and he decided to sign for someone else for even more money. I have no problem with him deciding to maximise his income but, please, can we stop with all the ‘He wanted to stay!’ bollocks. It’s all about money and he didn’t ‘love’ playing with us to stay for his current wage and then some so he, obviously, didn’t really, really, want to stay did he?

Agreed. All this "he wanted to stay" bollocks is laughable.
If he wanted to stay he wouldn't have signed for another club.
Or at least he would have waited.
He could have signed a pre-contract with an overseas club at any point this calendar year (not just in the transfer window).
He didn't wait to see who the new manager was (Nathan Jones was appointed on 4th February).
He didn't even wait until the UK transfer window closed (1st February) to see if any transfer bids from UK clubs came in.
By all accounts he signed a binding pre-contract with Fehervar on the 23rd or 24th January.
That's not the behaviour of somebody who "wanted to stay".
Anyone who thinks otherwise might as well lie by Dobbo's front door and let him use their face as a doormat.

A couple of points in reply-
Scott offered Dobson a two year contract, and our skipper reasonably asked for the security of a three year deal. This is far from greedy, given he’s our skipper, former POTY, and at 26 years old, at the peak of his career earning potential.
It only seems to be middle aged blokes with a woody for the Technical Director who have a problem with this ?
As for Dobson wanting to stay being “blah blah blah” (ironic, given the source could send a pair of glass eyes to sleep), you only have to look in the player’s lounge & Crossbars on match days to see who GD brings with him to games. Maybe that person is speaking on behalf of his son , and good luck to him if he is.

I’d be very happy for Dobson to stay beyond the end of this season.
NJ has even publicly said that GD is a more rounded player than some fans seem to think. The rest of us that see how good he is (and could be with better players around him) know it is going to be far from “simple” to replace, let alone improve on, a player like him
Hasn’t Dobson had a few assists in recent games?
