Is it too big for us? Talk of season ticket sales we have 8,000 hard-core support even if we was top in league one would struggle for 16,000.

Thought this was a thread about yourself at first!
Filling the Valley is the long term goal. We've been there before and it would be a lot fuller in the Championship. Or even if we were in the auto's in League One.
It's too big for us in a relegation battle but I'm not sure what you're really getting at with the question?

I appreciate it's a dream at the moment, but surely the ambition would be one day to return to the premiership. When we were last there plans were in position to increase the capacity to 40,000. If our current owner's are ambitious in furthering the clubs standing or making money by reselling, I would have thought having a smaller ground ( which ever way that's achieved ) at the moment is the last thing on there minds.

You are assuming that the club's aspirations are limited to League One. Our last season in the Championship we averaged over 18,000 and were never, really, in the running to finish top six. Promotion to the Premier League and we would, virtually, sell out most games. Sure, if we are going to plan to be in League One for the next decade then we could, probably, manage with less than 20,000. Remember that we had over 16,000 for the Derby and Portsmouth games recently, and five gates over 15,000 last season - another season when we were rubbish.

Don’t matter what division you are in if you are winning games and are top the crowds will come , where did 27000 spring from the last time we had some success.

Play off semi final was a sell out.
No reason why we couldn’t get around 17k -18k if we are successful in league 1.
Hope you’re not one of the owners or a member of the UK board. Should we be sharing with Millwall 😖

I've even changed the thread title for you so that it makes sense. Why create a thread and answer it yourself?

No there isn't a point at all, it's pathetic. Find something to do FFS. You are clearly very bored. Well the club want more season ticket holders but struggle too half fill the Valley can't you see Roland has lost us support these last ten years.

He sanctioned a promotion winning squad that had 50,000 fans backing them at Wembley for the play-Off final? Sandgaard has lost us fans not Duchatelet so at least get your facts right if you are going to start pointless threads. Fans drop off at every club. If we got back into the Premier League tomorrow we would sell out every game. You don't honestly think that when we were there last all but 3000 fans were all Charlton do you? As I said how can The Valley be too big for us if the owners want promotion? If we go up a smaller stadium won't work.

Questions about whether we should keep the red red robin or staying at the valley have recently been asked on forum’s seems to be like a crafty survey.

It’s highly unlikely that the other 25,000 people would attend just for a day out to watch League 1 football at Wembley. A bit of a silly post imo.

I will give you 15,000 fans attending for a day out, how does that sound? Which would leave us 35,000, which would mean if our long term ambition is to play in the premier again, we would need a bigger ground.

Sorry to repeat what has already been said but what a pointless thread.
After reading it all I still can't work out the point of the OP!
Are you suggesting we move to a new smaller stadium or only using part of The Valley, what are you saying?
One thing I am certain of is the huge potential of Charlton Athletic if they can get promoted next season.

We had 38,000 at Wembley in 2019 not 50,000 like someone said.

Why would we ever think the Valley is too big for us?, I still dream of the 40,000 stadium with the corners filled in. If and when we are competing at the right end of the championship, we will start to fill it again.

The day we leave the Valley would be the day I walk away from this club for good.
Unlike others, I did 7/8 years at Shithurst & Upton Park and it was a horrible, miserable, peripatetic experience.
Never, ever again.

Never, ever again. I really don't see a problem. So many clubs have left famous old grounds for modern stadiums. Providing the new stadium was in Greenwich Borough, had a decent capacity and was owned by the club I can't see any issues at all. Just look at the list of clubs that have moved and you rarely hear them complain. I'd be happy with a stadium like Brighton have got but as I say It MUST be in Greenwich not miles away in Kent.
