A good signing is what we needed and we got one. The recognition has finally sunk in that you need to spend to bring in quality, so more of the same please.

Too early to gloat Paul, although I realise some fans are heavily invested in him. We are 13th in the table and out of all the Cups to teams below us in the pyramid. Rodwell & Scott have got absolutely fuck all to be proud of. They've set themselves the challenge of recruiting or developing eight elite (marquee) players by the start of next season. There's the small matters of team attitude, tactics and fitness to address and that's on Dr Mike & Appleton. Time will tell how many signings work out and whether they convert to improved XG and improved results. Unclear why anybody would invest heavily in any member of SMT, past or present? They either move the club forwards or backwards. CAFC (BVI) secured promotion in 2012 and sold us to Staprix early 2014 in the midst of a relegation scrap. Duchatelet and Meire ensured survival, at first. Both ESI and Sandgaard took us backwards for four years. Dr Mike 😂 Elfs predicted that one was coming , and he was spot on 🙄 Another benefit of the investors finally understanding that if you go cheap you get cheap is that Appleton now has no place to hide. He may be an appalling manager with the personality of a damp towel, but these are presumably the players he wanted, and he’s got a maximum of 5 games now to turn the results around IMO. Let’s hope the next stage of SE7 Partners Damascene Conversion to being serious owners is that they appoint a serious coach this Summer - Nathan Jones or Mark Warburton would be ideal. It’s the logical next step once we have signed 8 elite players.

Michael Appleton says the arrival of new signing Conor Coventry has given everyone at the club a lift.
The highly-rated 23-year-old midfielder completed a permanent move to Charlton on Friday morning, joining from Premier League side West Ham United on a three-and-a-half year contract.
“It’s massive to get Conor on board," explained Appleton. "For me, he’s a minimum Championship player and we had to fight off a lot of Championship interest.
"Everyone associated with the football club and the Board should take real confidence in the fact that Conor wanted to come to the football club.
"I actually took him on his first loan about four years ago at Lincoln, so I’ve built up a relationship with him and his family since then. He’s a top talent and he fits the vision of where the football club wants to go and the vision of the Board.”
Coventry, Tyreeq Bakinson and Lewis Fiorini could all make their debuts on Saturday when the Addicks host high-flying Peterborough United.
“As long as the paperwork is done with Conor, they’ll all be in the squad tomorrow," revealed the Head Coach.

It’s the logical next step once we have signed 8 elite players. Most would agree That Appleton has to make things work now that new talent has arrived, including two players that he has managed before. Forget all the hyperbole about our back five and the odd catastrophic mistake, it's out midfield which has been too weak for years. With this new structure there's no hiding place for anybody in the SMT nor football management. The investors will want to see progress on ALL fronts at the one year anniversary, and the 2nd etc. Better prospects for the football, better ST sales, better commercial deals AND edging closer towards the play-offs. We don't know whether Coventry is the next Cullen or the next JFC but he's new to us, so welcome aboard.

A step in the right direction though. We need to get in another 3 quality players by the close of this window which will hopefully give us depth and not a subs bench of 17 year olds. I assume that the Coventry deal will include a release clause for the player and a sell on clause for the club particularly as he has dropped down to tier 3. Await further news of other potential signings. It’s definitely a step in the right direction, and on paper it looks our best signing for several seasons. Well done to the investors for financing it 👏 it’s also nice to be back signing players on permanent, long term contracts like normal & stable clubs do. If Gillesphy joins today to replace the cumbersome Hector, that’s another positive sign. Yeah Agreed,Credit where it is due of course, but plenty to do yet for AS/SE7. Finding a foil for Alf will be massive.

I’ve had some very positive feedback on Conor Coventry from friends who support West Ham. Surprisingly positive. He could be a very good signing.

Poor lad, hope fans do not expect to much of him, he won't be able to do it alone.

Sounds like a decent signing.
Hopefully he’ll do well for us.
Struggling to see how he can be seen as a box to box midfielder though as only has one senior club goal?

Can't understand the baby oil and kleenex tissues with this signing... Surely if he was really decent west ham would not sell, they have a injury nightmare at present. He's only been loaned out to mediocre clubs.... this just seems a average signing.
