It’s now the Last Chance Saloon for your lot with many of our most loyal fans.
I’d invite you, Andy Scott and James Rodwell to stand in our away end, and take the temperature on just what many of our most loyal, dedicated and passionate fans are saying about the way our club is being run down the toilet on your watch.
It’s not all your fault. That’s a straw man. Nobody is claiming that it is.
But after two transfer windows , 18 new players, most of them crap, and two unsuccessful managerial appointments, patience with you and your errors was well and truly exhausted this afternoon.
You’ve signed players who can’t do the basics, and appointed a manager with about as much personality as a mannequin.
Shrug it off with excuses and yet more empty promises by all means …but just don’t be surprised to see a very empty Valley from January 2024 onwards.
I heard at least three “that’s me finished” comments from hitherto very loyal supporters this afternoon.
You’ve now got the January transfer window to live up to your public promises, and start making decisions and appointments that are going to properly arrest the endless decline of our football club.

When you have owners, lenders, SMT or whatever you want to call them telling a manager what formation we should be playing, then you have a massive problem. It started with Adkins and they have continued ever since. The last manager with balls who came into the club was Bowyer who played his 442 diamond formation and Gallen recruited the players to suit that formation, the only bit missing was a partner for Lyle when Grant left. It’s shambolic now and Appleton, Scott and Rodwell can fuck off sooner rather than later.

Pretty much where I am. Never wanted Charlie anywhere near the place but got shot down numerous times for my opinion. But forget where I stand let us judge on our current league position, our dreadful team and player performances two unsuccesful managers and a recruitment team who hasn't produced one player who is good enough to be in the starting 11 and then remember he was the pivotal point in bringing this mess together.

It’s very early days for our new owners. We are at the start of a journey of rebuilding this club. Whether we like it or not. I definitely do not like where we are, but it’s going to take some real hard hitting decisions to get us on the right track and also investment. Ipswich spent a lot in their first season with the new owners and didn’t do anything. We’ve not even had a full window and people are calling for the owners to leave if they get January wrong at all.
We’ve been here before less than 6 months ago. No one is queuing up to buy us. Give them a chance.
Having a go at Charlie makes no senses. What’s he done wrong since the takeover?

The same logic can be applied to you aaronaldo in that you always blow with the current wind in defending Duchatelet, ESI, Sandgaard, or any other rag tag and bobtail outfit who happen to own us that particular week. My comments about fans having had enough is based on actually mingling with a few of them away from social media, and standing on away terraces watching the dross that is currently being served up. Yours is a highly unrepresentative and frankly odd stance, so perhaps you should try it 👍 |

Well can’t disagree with most of the views here, think we’ve had enough drinks in that last chance saloon to be quite pissed January as we keep saying is so important not just for the fans who are coming to the end of the road in watching crap football and thinking of giving it all amiss, but for the club as a whole no money or a pittance spent on the usual shit will tell me all I need to know about our new owners and the rest of this season. Splash the cash and away we go again

Not sure anybody expected nor predicted a complete collapse in form this month. It has been educational but we should perhaps discuss what we might learn. And what must be done. Does somebody need to go under the proverbial bus? Does Scott have the budget, the search and the ability to land four quality players in January? If Appleton has lost the dressing room and fanbase then who comes in to get us back on track? Now that we have three main investors and an experienced SMT, are they able to weather the storm? Our ability to make the play-offs has been hammered, but nothing has changed in terms of our potential to sign players / injured players returning by February. Never waste a good crisis! |

Methven has to show tangible improvements and an arrest to the decline. So far nothing really evident.

Scott has to go for appointing Appleton....if he'd taken advantage of the new structure and segregation of duties by hiring a dynamic ambitious (likely) young coach then I think the fans would still be onside even after 23 points from 17 games.
Instead it's turned toxic because Appleton was such an unimaginative incompetent hire which would've made no sense even under a traditional model (where he reports directly to the Board).

Just wait until New Year's Day after Oxford United complete the double over us! Tonight it was mistakes from both full backs that cost us the goals but let's not deflect from the shambles that is the front six. Some like to blame the squad, or individuals or perhaps injuries. But our goal tonight showcased the talent that Appleton chooses to leave on the bench every week! Most games these days our xG in the first half is pitiful! For sure Scott can bring in a few players over the next two weeks but will that change anything? Ideally fans and investors (whose interests are 100% aligned) find ways to force some changes in 2024. Where I disagree is that Scott has a way through... Together with securing talent, he needs to seek permission to commence a head coach search then time an Appleton replacement. If he can't create space to execute then he becomes part of the problem. |

It’s good to see Charlie Methven getting plenty of scrutiny today on Charlton social media.
Cynics are questioning for how long his new bout of laryngitis will last, with the medically qualified suggesting it will be until we finally next win a game of football, or sign a player. The way things are going, there are no guarantees we will hear from Charlie in January.
Mr Methven wasn’t shy about mixing it with the Sunderland fanbase when he was criticised, not always successfully.
When is he going to step away from the protection of his carefully choreographed podcasts, which are full of pie in the sky and platitudes, and answer some real questions from some real CAFC fans ?

One of the most ridiculous posts NEVER posted on this forum loyal fans as you put it understand that the club needs stability .. new owners have only been in charge for appox 5 months , in that time they had to rebuild the club from the bottom up .. talk to the staff who work at the club and the way the toxic as they put it as changed completey mainly down to Rodwell who as an open door policy for staff with any issues .. Gary Neville summed it up with Man Utd issues , he said to get success on the pitch the structure and foundation behind the scenes has to be right , and we are building our structure and foundation getting the right people in the right jobs , and eventually in the next couple of windows a squad that MA wants to get us out this league . …… what promises ? the owners ( Americans ) have not made any wild promises or bragged about how wealthy they are ? It is a well written piece and Everitt is keen that fans don't waste the opportunity tonight by getting lost in the detail of catering or box office queries. It's obvious that we're underperforming budget and that injuries plus Sandgaard legacy contribute but don't fully explain where we are today. However, Everitt completely mangles the Championship picture for 2025 and beyond by failing to grasp that doubling the media deal goes a long, long way to making us break even, once promoted. A school child can easily cope with the arithmetic at play so why be deliberately obtuse?! It's all about execution so perhaps we shouldn't get too lost in the personalities and the gossip?! Essentially we secured decent results when Leaburn and Aneke were available but Tedic and Kanu didn't cut it. Therefore bring in a decent no. 9 ASAP, await Aneke's return and see how we go. If Scott fails to beg, borrow or steal a decent No. 9 then that's a different discussion. And if Appleton fails to deliver wins with a new No.9 and Aneke back, then we kinda know what happens next. |
