This is an incredible stat, and is indicative of just what a mess the club is in. Would anyone like to hazard a guess at how many players have made their debuts for CAFC in the first half of this season 🤔 Five ? Ten ? Nope. An incredible sixteen (16) players have made their debuts for CAFC between August ‘23 and Jan 24. Edun May Jones Isted Camara L Watson T Watson Campbell Tedic Amankwah Walker Kedwell Mbick Casey Laqeretabua Taylor Would you prefer that we still played with the matchday 18 put together by the Sandgaards, Gallen and Garner?! We have retained just five from 13 months ago plus AMB, Ness, T. Campbell and Leaburn made their mark. May and Chem Campbell are a step up but unfortunately our midfield is still poor. Exactly. He’d moan either way. If we only had 2 new starters it would be “Why haven’t we signed anyone”. Everyone was calling for a rebuild. The club attempted this, with a very compromised window, and now we’re complaining about the amount of people having a debut. Can’t make it up. Glad you’re back posting Royston/WLA/whatever your next account will be. You’re like a light at the end of the tunnel. A ray of sunshine!

Look again at that list - either cheapo duds, or kids thrown in through necessity , and far too soon. Hardly a ringing endorsement of your fave owners 🤔

Add Lloyd Jones and possibly Edun to that. Rest are bang average!w Jones, yes but Edun is also bang average. Unfair! I think we all knew Edun was more of a wingback, but he constantly gets doubled up on because CBT doesn't defend. So who is the left sided midfielder who could cover? Fraser. Enough said.

I suspect that much of that budget was already in place when Scott arrived. Kirk, McGrandals and Aneke, for example, contribute very little for their wages. Fraser is another one that will be earning a lot of money yet is hardly setting the division alight. Last January the signings were brought in to cover holes left from the start of the dead wood removal. None of them were much good but they did keep us up. It makes me sick writing that. Again the signings this summer have all been a bit pants but I suspect that the Sandgaard signings were using up most of the allowable budget - made harder due the number of season ticket holders that the Rock Star managed to dissuade from renewing in the three seasons that he took the club backwards. I get that we already had some high earners on the books due to Gallen & Co but I still question how the money was spent We already had , Fraser, Dobson, Anderson, Kirk, Mcgrandles and Henry as our midfield options, so we then bring in Camara, Taylor, Campbell Watson ….. that’s a complete team of midfielders and yet we are left with Hector,Jones and Thomas as experienced CB’s and Leaburn, May, Tedic and injury history prone Aneke…. We needed less numbers and more quality IMO, 11 midfielders was crazy😳 You are also forgetting Payne who is still our man and Mitchell who I think may be used in midfield pre-season if Dobbo goes.

It’s not about taking sides or winning arguments and it’s much better if there are a range of views being expressed. I like reading those different viewpoints, especially when they are backed up by logic and analysis.

Reams hasn’t let you back, we (mods) all have. So let’s look at your list then. Edun - new signing. Wingback who’s made to look bad because CBT doesn’t pull his weight when defending. May - new signing. Best in the league Jones - new signing. Best CB at the club. Isted - New signing. Looked promising until the injury Camara - Loan. Quality player, unfortunate to be injured. L Watson - Loan. Very good on the ball. Intricate passer. Needs players supporting his 1-2’s and quick tempo to be effective. Appleton clearly not a fan though. Probably looked at him funny. T Watson - New signing. Solid enough, but nothing to sing about. Campbell - Loan. Has shown moments where he’s got quality. Tedic - Loan. Send him back. Abankwah - Loan. Never played in his actual position. Odd signing. Already gone back? Walker - Emergency loan. Wasn’t impressed. Kedwell - Youth. Came on a sub in the cup in the 4-2pm win against Villa Academy. Mbick - Youth. Debut in the cup against Cray Valley (Scored and we won 6-1) Casey - Youth. 88th min sub for Kanu in the league. Laqeretabua - Youth. Debut in the cup against Crawley. Taylor - New signing. Quite like the look of him. Shame he got injured. So only 1 of the youth had a debut in the league and this was for barely 5 mins, when we have multiple injured strikers. Cup games are where clubs play their youth to give them senior game time. This kinda goes against the point you were trying to make that we are having to play these players through desperation.

aaronaldoI think if you asked most fair minded Charlton fans how many Summer signings had been a success they would reply ‘two’ - Jones & May. That’s 2 out of 13 ? Isted looked very shaky prior to his injury (although AMB is no better), and I can’t see how you can rate Louie Watson when he’s hardly played , and neither of our managers this season did? We all know Edun is not a full back, but watch Bristol Rovers goal again , he’s got absolutely no excuse for being a lazy bugger who switches off & can’t be arsed to run. When you add the two decent signings this Summer to the 4.5 donkeys that Scott signed in Jan 23 (Hector being the 0.5), you start to see a pattern.

Personally I wouldn’t lump Louis Watson is with the other loan misfits We played our best football with him and Dobson sitting in with May tucking in behind Leaburn and Aneke, I think this lad can play and has quality and will go onto be a top player Why MA stopped playing him after one poor game is a complete mystery to me? 🤔🤔🤔
