Everyone has the right to better themselves but there is also the moral right to do the correct thing. Both Parker and Taylor at the time of their departures owed the club. Parkers development and progress through the "ranks" was down to the club and coaching staff, he'd just signed a new five year deal, of course we don't know what would have happened over the rest of the season had he stayed but we were a much better team with him. If Taylor had played in the last few games at the end of the season and scored one or two goals there's every chance we would have stayed up and he also owed the club, he left a better player than when he arrived. Had both stayed and seen out their respective seasons they would have left with the full respect and admiration of the fans. It's also possible their carreers would have panned out better, particularly Parker.

I didn't mean to derail this thread lol. I assume it's mainly due to no real rumours or anything at the moment. reamsofverse - Are you hearing anything in terms of timescales for a decision?

I have no problems with players leaving between seasons. For me the January transfer window should be restricted to prevent poaching. I'd quite like to see players "league tied" so they can't switch at least within the same division or possibly at all if they've been a regular at their club.
This was our best season and we had ambition that was taken away from us. Scott Parker could have agreed the move to Chelsea to happen at the end of the season and worked in Mourinho's new team.

Cawley saying final stage interviews Tues and Weds with decision shortly after.
Means a week of training being lost, which is a shame.

What did he do? I don't remember tbh. I remember him training on his own after a falling out with Curbs. Went on strike , refusing to play. Speeding up move to Chelsea.. He was then and probably is still our highest ever wage earner on c25,000 a week, enough to make you very rich. Chelsea doubled that to £50,000 a week enough to make you very rich for life and security for your whole family in the future. I know what I would do given that choice.

Don't disagree, but do feel it would be possible to get final stages done today and tomorrow with decision made Tuesday PM. Would give Weds recover from trophy game before a proper kick on with new plans Thursday

For me any club wishing to move upwards in the pyramid should be prepared to lose both players and staff to bigger fish. Brighton, Brentford and Southampton have all made small fortunes from sales. But CAFC hasn't been landing young players, developing them and selling them on. If Leaburn shines for the rest of the season then big bids will come in and we can't stand in his way. Whoever lands the job needs to discuss exit of the best as well as lesser players with Scott. And that means recruiting well else we are left with "dead wood" that can't be shifted. I'm amazed that we have shifted as many Sandgaard signings as we have in the two 2023 windows.

And tomorrow night at Crawley. Nothing in the bigger picture. Still the same challenge vs Stevenage away and the same aspiration to beat the lesser teams whislt competing with the top eight or nine.

If I we’re selecting a suitable candidate, I’d be checking to see if any of the shortlist bothers to go and watch the pizza cup game. Good indication to see if someone is seriously considering the role and have the right attitude. Doing their homework on the team. I’d be surprised if we don’t put out a reasonable side bearing in mind our recent results. It’s not like we have a game this weekend. Obviously not the only criteria.

He was like 2 players in one and when he left the gap he left was massive. He could have been a great but left too soon. Would prefer Nathan Jones but if Scott then fine, why bear a grudge?

I guarantee Alfie May won't start tomorrow...
If he was to be booked, he'd be suspended for Stevenage. And with Leaburn still short of minutes and Tedic still being bedded in, that could be a disaster.
I expecting the strikers tomorrow to be Tedic and Kanu. With Leaburn coming on at about the 60 minute mark, to get about half an hour.
Also expecting at least 2 of the other new boys to get a run out.

But whoever it's is I wish them well, if they get us playing and entertain the crowds and get us out of this league everything else is water under the bridge.

You're right, Scott Parker was just everywhere in our midfield the season he left. Crunching tackles, surging runs, and I believe just prior to his move he scored a couple from outside the box. He was magnificent that season, and arguably single handedly dragged us up into champions league contention. However, he never really replicated that form for the remainder of his career in my opinion, so I think personally he was just peaking as a footballer in ability and form. So I think he already was great, but that was his greatest period, and Charlton got it.

The figures ITK types quoted at the time were than he was on £16k with us and £45k at Chelsea. I remain convinced Chelsea signed him more to hobble us than help them (given he was just a bench warmer with the CMs they already had). We were 5th at the time and had been closing the gap on 4th place Chelsea week by week. Although we still finished 7th I'm convinced we would have qualified for Europe if he'd stayed. I blame Abramovich rather than Parker though. Who would really turn down trebled wages for less (on pitch time) work?

If I remember correctly, chelsea were out of form, we were in form and catching.. I still can’t to this day, understand why nobody worked Parker’s classic turn. He’d be standing still, facing his own goal then make a clockwise 180 and get away with it every time.
