Everything feels positive and logical since Garner arrived but TS is placing enormous faith in a manager with only 18 months' experience despite being 42 years old. We all hope he has uncovered a gem but it's one hell of a gamble if we don't hit the ground running results wise. This is also my perspective. It should be entertaining though and I’d much rather we gambled than settle for mid table mediocrity. I agree. If it goes pear shaped, Garner will be gone in October, fanbase unrest towards the owner will be huge, and we will have half of Swindon’s staff weighing us down, including the tea lady at this rate. It’s an interesting gamble, and probably a zero sum game for both Garner & Sandgaard.

This is a fair point, but on the flip side a couple of weeks ago lots of fans were moaning that our signings would be dictated by the Sandgaards and not the manager. Now it appears that the manager has quite a lot of influence (so far) and these are the players he wants.

It’s an interesting gamble, and probably a zero sum game for both Garner & Sandgaard. This is the way modern football is going. Clearly we need to sign players that can fit into the system that Sandgaard has decided the team will play. Even if there are better players out there we have a limited budget and we need to put together a starting eleven, with some cover. If some of the players are unable to perform at the level that we want to be at then they will have to be replaced. At the moment we need so many different players (that can play in a way that last season's squad never could) and that means taking gambles on lower league footballers. There are so few clubs (outside of the elite) that play this way that it is difficult to identify players used to Garner's system - but Swindon have a whole squad of them! I'd like to think that Garner is hand picking the best of the players from his old club - specifically relative to cost. He was always going to look to sign as many free transfers from Swindon as he could. I do agree, though, that this approach is rather sh*t or bust. This season is going to be much worse than last year if we have to bring in a new manager, to play 3-5-2, with the squad that Garner is building, if we are bottom four in October.

It's all logical and positive in that Garner going in for players he knows and rates in the full knowledge that CAFC can offer higher contracts so they will join. Quick and clean. Not sure we can rate Swindon Athletic just yet - we need to watch the friendlies. Most importantly, what calibre will further additions be. And how is Garner aiming to set us up. As ever, we should hope that we can get through the first ten games, then navigate our way to the next window. But it won't be easy climbing back. Having said that, it appears that we're 7th right now with a top of the table clash vs Accrington coming up!

Having said that, it appears that we're 7th right now with a top of the table clash vs Accrington coming up! Last season there was a sense that first Adkins (4-3-3) and then Jackson (3-5-2) were wedded to a preferred system so that the question was whether we had the players to populate their respective field positions. My guess is that it will be very different under Ben Garner. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he is very fluid in terms of systems and tactics so that we might find we play three at the back (3-4-3 or 3-5-2) or with a flat back four, for example. Its perhaps no coincidence that Eoghan O'Connell is comfortable in a three or a four at the back. However, what won't be flexible, providing he gets the players he needs, will be the playing philosophy. That will be fixed and will be possession based and involve playing out from the back and through the thirds. It will require the players to have much more courage in possession and, at times, might appear risky or even reckless. Garner will be looking to sign players who he believes can play this way. What's logical about this window, at least so far, is that at last we seem to signing players who fit the stated style of play. O'Connell is a good example of that. He's not a coming star in my view, but he's decent and, most importantly, he's a square peg for a square hole. This is the first time we've operated this way for many seasons. Perhaps since the summer of 2014?

A looked the best for me. Reaction time was very short. All great saves though!

I think A, I had already had it as a goal in my mind. He's looking pretty decent. Got that horrendus error out of his system in the first match.

I was being somewhat ironic about the viewpoint of a singer commenting on a sportsman in my post.

Maybe the singer was sticking up for the other goalies in Ghana? According to Wikipedia, the other two in the squad are both Ghanaiam born and bred whereas Wollacott could just be seen as some foreign chancer who suddenly decided to a non tax paying Ghanaian when the possibility of a few weeks in Qatar became an option.

Am I missing something, I have been to every home game thus far and haven’t seem Wollacott involved in any of the pre- match warm ups? Unless he does an earlier session that I miss?

Confirmed he will miss the World Cup due to fractured finger.
Really feel sorry for the lad, he must be gutted.

Ah man, that is gutting for him. Such a shame. What are the odds of doing that in a warmup for the last game before the WC.

Should have rested him in the first place in my opinion. Why risk the lads dream?

TS won't be happy either, he's missing out on $10k a day when a player is at the World Cup.

It's very sad for JoJo personally, but he like Garner are employed and paid by Charlton and I'd be annoyed if a player was rested from the team for any reason other than tactically.

Should have rested him in the first place in my opinion. Why risk the lads dream? This could have happened mid week, or last Saturday. If we’re not careful we end up making a case for players, who would be out of contract, downing tools before the season ends. Your post is dangerously close to defending Lyle Taylor’s actions so that he could earn c. £30k a week for three years.

AMB set for debut after McG out with concussion. Is he only 6'2"? Looks taller. Good distribution and will come for crosses. Hope his confidence not affected by two successive shoulder dislocations in a year.
