Only thing we lack in the squad is the type of attacking midfielder like Whittaker who scored their goal tonight. I thought he and Enness looked very good.
Chuffed to bits right now though.

Couldn't make it tonight as I'm away on holiday, but it sounds like we can put to bed any claims that this squad is bottom half standard?
At the very least we should be sniffing around the play-offs this season. Possibly more if we can add another couple of quality players before the window shuts.

Think it's worth revisiting this after the next two home games, and again after ten. Garner is managing expectations and it's been clear for a while that no additional striker was coming in. Just as it's clear that JFC and Gilbey are surplus to requirements. As posted elsewhere that leaves us looking at a false 9 and/or Aneke for goals. Let's watch the team and game management now that Rak-Sakyi is set to make his debut. We really should pay attention to the whole of the front six, and not just Stockley. Don’t be daft Kevin , even David Blunkett & Peters and Lee can tell after 3 league games we haven’t got the fire power. We don’t need to wait “10 league games” to know that Aneke will spend another season on his arse in the treatment room. This is a shite owner pulling the wool over fan’s eyes. After a few decades following CAFC, there are two reasons we should rarely go all out attacking our club and our side. First off, it's our club and there are 23 others in our division who want to attack us plus Palace and Millwall fans taking the piss. Second off, directors, staff and players all really care about performances and results. And we can always be magnanimous about shortcomings - but the fact is that CAFC simply ain't predictable. In short the SMT try to do something every season. And when they fail, somebody takes the blame. Last season it was Adkins, Roddy and finally Jackson. Let's take another look at this squad and tactics on Sunday after five games - not just tonight, but also not a narrow defeat vs Wednesday. No idea if Aneke has a part to play but if he does then we could be in a very good place soon enough.

We haven't looked all that good until tonight to be honest. Their have been glimpses here and there but everything just seemed to click into place this evening. It was the perfect performance.

I’ll hold my hand up and say I was wrong about Morgan. I was happy to let him go this transfer window. I’ve always maintained he has lots of ability. Consistency is the key and he’s showing that this year and he’s stepped it up as well.
He finally has a manager that is getting the best out of him and it’s great to see. I hope he gets a goal soon!

The team has got a buzz about it again for the first time since Bowyer’s first half a season in the Championship. Dobson / Morgan and Fraser:Kirk is looking a potent combo at this level, with JRS & CBT up top. If only we had a mobile striker.

I still think that Payne will be a big player for us this season, and he's barely featured yet.

As I posted before I think we've a gem in Garner, if he was to get the funds he needs, "we ain't seen nothing yet!"

Someone on CL seems to think Gilbey, JFC and MacG all going, with 2-3 replacements incoming.

I have heard that a small bid has been made by the same club for Gilbey and Forster-Caskey. Mac G has also been told he can go. No incoming' until one or more have been shifted.

Only loans incoming, unless we can shift players for a wedge.

I like Gilbey, but if losing him is the only way we could sign a new striker or centre back then I would say get rid. I'd rather we sold JFC and McG though.

I don't think selling McGillivray will be bring in much as he'd need to be replaced in some capacity as: - Given his form this season there's a reasonable chance Jojo will be called up as third GK for Ghana at the WC. - AMB is injured for months and we presumably can't get him back before January now. - Even if you're confident with Harness being our first team keeper during the 4-5 weeks of the WC we still need a keeper on the bench. Of course a replacement would likely be cheaper than McG but (unlike other players going out) it still means a chunk of the McG wages/fee will need to go towards that replacement.

From what AMB said to a fan last night (back to fitness/recovered in 2.5 months) he should be alright for Jan!

Mid-Nov to Mid-Dec is when we'd need someone if McG leaves and Jojo goes to the WC. Sounds like AMB defo isn't an option for then so we'd need an emergency GK on a month's loan (if those are still allowed outside of the window) at the very least.

I was very sceptical as to what Stockley brings to this formation. However having seen Tuesday performance I have a massive appreciation on his movement is creating space for the wide midfielders to run into. he dropped into the pocket like a number 10, dragging the cb's forward allowing both kirk and JRS the room to make diagonal runs into the space. Doing this may reduce the volume of goals JS ends up scoring this season, but I can see our wingers hitting double figures because of it. Sometimes we forget there is more to just scoring goals as a striker,

It's a bit disrespectful to us the phrase 'Happy for the player to leave' in my opinion.
Until he does he is still a Charlton player but what happens if doesn't? How demotivated is he going to be knowing that he isn't wanted?

How demotivated is he going to be knowing that he isn't wanted? That’s Cawley's wording though? Garner or the club haven’t said specific players are surplus or any such thing. We’re just open for offers (to everyone Garner said). Everyone has a price.

Think he's been dealt a rough hand, I know we've brought in some real talent but I do believe he has a part to play. He's tidy on the ball and has some good driving runs. Individual effort doesn't seem to be our bag though, all about bringing your team mates onto the ball.

Gilbey’s stats in the last two years with us speak for themselves. Absolutely dire. Look at the clubs who are in for him - says it all.

He’s battled through Covid after it affected him quite badly. There’s a good player there. I think he’ll do well at his next club if we let him go. He’s not scored enough for us but I was looking forward to see him this year to see what he could really do.
