I know he's ex-Millwall but Lee Gregory proved again tonight that he is the best six yard finisher out there. I know you can't miss from that range but I am talking about the positions he gets himself in for the cross and more often than not he takes advantage of it.
I know what Stockley brings aerially but Gregory is a better all round player for me, not that we can afford him of course but we did need somebody up front who does what he does and that isn't Connor Washington either.

Sounds as though Marquis looking likely. If you got that info from a tweet I think it was a wind up. Hope so...

That Twitter account has 3 Followers….oh dear. I wouldn't be unhappy if that turned out to be true. A tough and annoying player, who can also play a bit. Every time he and the Taylor lookalike got the ball in the first playoff game at Doncaster it looked like something could happen. We need some tough players in the squad.

Think you maybe in minority. Definitely worth another go. The boy has ability. Lets not go down road off he did nothing when he was here, think about his personal circumstances and being played out of position. He went there and set up at least 4 goals

I get this is a wind up account but he isn’t wrong, I got my info elsewhere. Can’t reveal too much but deal is basically done from what I’ve heard. Signing Marquis is proper league one….

My issue with Kirk is that I'm not sure he actually wants to play for us.

My issue with Kirk is that I'm not sure he actually wants to play for us. I'm not sure he, ever, did. I think Crewe wanted some money for him and no one else was interested, and they pushed him out the door. I suspect that Blackpool have decided not to take up the option to buy him for £500k (or what ever it was) and they will come in and offer us £200k in a week or so. Then we'll do a dance, with Blackpool, and he'll move for £250k. It was a bad signing, it was not reseachered, properly. I was concerned when the signing was announced and we discovered that Adkins had had a chat with him on the phone after he signed, and they'd never met, face to face. I, also, thought Jackson's comments about him being given every chance if he came back was just an opening gambit to ensure that Blackpool didn't think they could get him for nothing. The mistake was signing him, now it's all about credability damage limitation - just how stupid is Sandgaard going to look when he sells the player for a loss.

At the risk of stating the obvious, how can we be on the verge of signing players like Marquis when we don’t have a manager ?
The first thing a player asks before committing to a 2/3 year deal is “does the manager like me?” or “am I in the manager’s plans?”.
In our case, the question is “who’s your manager?”
Now either Sandgaard & Son have identified a new manager, and are already working in tandem with him to sign targets early OR there is no manager, and any new manager is going to have new players foisted on him by Sandgaard & Son, regardless of whether he fancies them or not.
Does anyone have a third option here ?

Not really a fan of Marquis. The fact Pompey let him go suggests he’s not all that.

So, should they actually have much of a say in signings?

It is worth waiting to see which teams fail in the playoffs in the two divisions below us.
Those clubs will often have players who will be keen to move upward anyway.

Surprised that Washington has been let go and that we have retained Davison, Innis, Purrington (subject to negotiations)...
Also no mention of the option to buy Famewo? A lot of deadwood leaving which is great but of course I am still concerned (based on last summer) about what is brought in to replace them.

Doesn’t look as if famewo will have the option Exercised.
Good removal of dead wood, although shame to see Washington go - he’s been a model pro and hard worker!
Innis is a weird one, presumably he’ll be having a complete recovery preseason enabling him to try and play as much as possible? Purrington hopefully won’t resign.
Davidson is half decent, and I’m sure will attract suitors in the league/league below

So, should they actually have much of a say in signings? Surely the average tenure is brought down drastically by the number of poor appointments. I would hope that when an appointment is made the owner is looking hopefully for at least a 2 or 3 year stint with the new manager and as I have said before if the manager isn't involved in signings we will go nowhere fast.
